Early on Snake definitely was not feeling Gief at least from his interview. Talked about T Rex normals even though it’s pretty obvious that he has some of the longest ones in the game now. Maybe it was a ploy to keep anyone else from figuring out he was good lol.
Hagejin also tweeted that he felt Gief was the worst character in the game. Which of course some people on SRK here also tried to take that as evidence of how bad he was.
IMO they pretty much made SFV Gief for Snake Eyez. He’s more of a wall, can play air grab games all the time, have to careful about challenging him with a high or low button and V Trigger lets him mitigate zoning games and play grab mind games from like a 1/3 screen away. It’s just luckily now if you get near Gief you can actually pressure him. He’s not nearly invincible to frame traps and rushdown like in IV.
Early on most people bashed their character because they were different. I mean look at Sim, where FChamp and SimSim were complaining constantly. Snake was referencing later on down the line when he tweeted about Gief being low tier, which not everyone got was a joke.
He didn’t give any reasoning really into his picks. I do think Ryu is up in that area though. I mean, everyone seems so good I don’t really see the point of tiers anyway. Snake did seem to chalk a lot up for Gief to the combination of damage, meter gain, and ways to get in.
Anyone heard of a player called hakujin? just played an Oregon to Asia set against him and the connection was pretty good. Whooped my ass with Rashid though lol.
Would you agree this is the same of other characters in the game. Ryu with the parry seems like it was tailor-made for Daigo.
Every character on a basic level feels threatening and the game’s damage works where everyone can make things hurt and the new stun system makes stun scarier as well.
There really doesn’t seem like there’s going to be a low tier character unless there’s like a big shift in the meta where a certain character can’t take advantage of something big that a lot of others can.
He does sooooo much damage in v-trigger and fierce and roundhouse are amazing crush counters imo.
i love his roundhouse in 3S. one of my favorite moves in the game.
it’s super legit in this game since there’s no parry to worry about.
I like Ryu but I dislike how different his forward and back walkspeeds are. He’s so quick to advance but subpar moving away.
And he doesn’t have the kind of range and crush counter follows ups that Ken has.
I really like Ryu’s cheeky anti-air crush counter lk tatsu super combo though, I did it in a few games versus real live people and felt so good it almost made the pain of subsequently losing the match go away!
He was way more ridiculous in beta 2. Confirms off of everything, 3s style super confirms off of c.mp (without counterhit. Linkable and had a late cancel), super easy vtrigger confirms etc. if they didn’t nerf him, I think he would’ve turned out to be the best character in the game just because of how much meterless damage he could do.
The only things that frustrate me about this game at the moment are the fact that people don’t learn to stop jumping in, along with always pressing buttons lol. That and the fact that I keep getting hit by a load of fraudulent stuff that won’t work 2 months from now.
Might be because AA’s (at least for some characters) don’t offer alot of dmg. I mean for me. Rashid doesn’t do alot of dmg. I mean 60 dmg off cr.mp is all he gets. If he does :h: spinning mixer and gets all the hits in it’s 130. So…yeah.
