That is bullshit. I’ve been checking the metascore from to time and the number of reviews have only been rising up, it’s sitting at 26k right now:
Even then, I wouldn’t be particularly mad if Metacritic went and deleted some stuff. It’s not exactly good behaviour to review bomb the game en masse before most people could have realistically any chance to play it through.
It’s clear that most of the people giving bad reviews in the first hours were people who were judging it based on the leaks and people pissed at lesbians and muscular female golf players.
I think most of the criticism is about characters making stupid decisions for the plot to move and violence for shock value disguised as “mature stuff”
It goes beyond that.
That is as stupid as saying that everyone mad at the game are incels, phobes, ists, isms.
There is the whole fiasco on how ND and Sony have been handling the leaks, by striking anyone for even making memes, the characters behaving in stupid ways just so the plot can continue, the game story being a clear step down from the original game, the antagonistic way that ND Vice president has been on social media, the whole shit on how he has been pushing away all the old guard that created naughty dog, the toxic work enviroment he has created where people actually are avoiding now working on ND, and that they had to go and get people from other insdustries like movies to try to finish the game.
But hey, lets just drink the koolaid and dismiss the criticism as some made up bullshit on par with what twater usually does.
Ehhh, I wouldnt go as far as to say that had some of the best designed, but i would give that it had chars with nice ideas.
Sadly, it also had a lot of dumb and lazy stuff that made some chars to feel very meh, like some really uninspired charracter traits.
Overall, i think that NRS games would benefit from them ditching the target combos system.
Most chars end having a lot of filler that never gets used, and in many cases, most of the low tier chars on their games, end being low because they end gimped by havng crappy target combos plus not having good tools that work in the meta of the games.
It definitely goes beyond that, I was just talking about the people who were literally waiting for the user reviews to be open and give the game a 0, that is a pretty stupid thing to do regardless of how you see the game.
It’s pretty obvious that most of the legitimate criticism is based on how the characters and the plot were handled, how self-absorbed the game is in trying to push its “revenge bad” theme and criticism of ND staff. There is a lot of interesting stuff to talk about the game, but we all know it’s going to be inevitably drowned out by one side framing it as “far rightist and bigots hate on brave and stunning developer” and the other going for standard anti-SJW demagoguery.
It feels like The Last Jedi situation wrapped in more culture war shit.
I would give that it can be harsher than needed, but people are using the outlets they have to let their disgust on how the game has been handled.
Remember, any criticism to the game on places like twater is met with the usual vitrol that the cespool always gives, and is amplified because now the game is paraded as some sort of sacred cow that needs to be shielded of any criticism.
So any opinion on the game ends more polarized.
Add that for the majority of the playerbase for TLoU, the game was never about the gameplay, graphics and overall presentation, but the story, the world.
This game takes a nosedive for many, and the heavy focus on the cycle of revenge robs the game of its unique setting since the focus is more on the humans and their small conflict, instead of the world and the overall scope of the apocalisis they are in.
Add that like as i said, the now CEO/Vice President has been very vocal about his stance and what he pretends to do, ushing his political views on the games ND does, in a patronizing way that only serves to polarize everyone, and in a way that clearly interferes with the quality of the story telling.
This game fails at that. Ellie gets her shit kicked in, loses her girlfriend and best friend, and fingers for trying to get back at Abby. Something I may have understood if Abby also got the same treatment.
But no. Abby gets to kill Joel and pretty much get away with it. She still has her boyfriend and leaves the story unscathed. All because Ellie had a flashback and let’s her live when she had the upper hand.
The game tries to be deep but fails at its core message.
And I wanna talk about this too, when a friend asked me if he should play 2, I answered him:
“Depends. Did you enjoy playing the first or did you enjoy the story of the first?
If you really liked the gameplay, you definitely should pick it up, but the story is dogshit.”
He said he wouldn’t get it then because the story was his favorite aspect from 1.
The game is a mixed bag, but the big, glaring issue is the story, and when that’s the one thing most of the fanbase cares about…

I agree tho. He got that generic face now. I don’t like it. The coolest thing about Moro was how different he was from the rest of the cast.
