It’s an ok option in 3S. Throws are 3fr and beat out most normals, and can even beat supers in some situations. Just be careful.
Makoto has an amazing dash, so don’t jump, because she can cross under. Try mashing on reaction, and it’ll usually beat out crackhead options. In fact, it’ll beat most all specials.

I actually really don’t like that Ryu’s St. HP is a CC.
It’s a decently ranged move (especially for Ryu standards) and more importantly, it’s safe on block. (-1)
It doesn’t get to Urien’s St. HP levels of bullshit, but it’s not a move that should be a CC solely because there isn’t much of a drawback for just pressing it and seeing what happens.
As satisfying as it is to actually see CC St. HP land, (That’s one hell of a punch, seriously, pay attention at the weight behind it.) I’d rather have it be a special cancelable move like it is during VT.
Oh hey, by the way, I just started up SFV again. Can Ryu not cancel into anything off of HP?
