See, that’s the extra context. SFV would potentially be gone if something was there to replace it. But no dev besides Capcom themselves are really interested in delving into SF’s space. Why bother when they do just fine with their own?
Of course that might change due to how much DBFZ at the very least destroyed MvCI. Maybe some devs will see potential in taking away SF’s space once and for all but it’s still ultimately a risky prospect.
It really is a shame how much SFV managed to do right (mostly in terms of features) and still end up feeling bad
Incredibly good replay system that makes it easy to find matches and learn from top players, in game. Finally giving people a solid training mode complete with frame data. An… attempt at rollback and crossplay. They tried some great new things but even with all that too weighed down by the other bad decisions
Hopefully they learned from it and don’t toss the good stuff in the bin
In the platform fighters case I think you’re right but for a wrong reason. You’re right that people don’t give a shit about any platform fighter that isn’t Smash, but it’s mainly because Platform Fighters suck as a concept. The Smash branding is the only thing that makes it hold up at all.
And what has delved into SF’s space in the last 8 years that was decent? Honestly all we have is Granblue which has its own issues so of course it’s gonna lose out.
Look, as much as everyone hates to admit it, branding does and will always matter. You could be the most polished FG in the history of anything with the best netcode on the planet but let’s be real, none of ya’ll will go to it if the aesthetics and branding aren’t up to what you want. The reason DBFZ so thoroughly destroyed MvCI was not only because of the great disparity in polish, but because the DB brand is strong enough to go toe to toe with basically anything.
You want SF dethroned? I mean I kinda do at this point because I think Capcom is far better served in other markets and right now the FG division over there is a complete waste of time. But what it will require is a strong enough brand or aesthetic to challenge while also being actually good.
In before the next SF copies MK11 to T, but in all the wrong places.
Like photorealism, ugly women, leaving fan facorites to troll the fanbase and adding guest chas that are kinda out of place on the game, game mechanics that are obtuse and incoherent, etc, etc
Dunno why you are arguing with me, if you are agreeing with all that i posted so far just right there.
Though i would take away the part of aesthetic being what you want, because i am sure no one, not a single sould wanted the art direction of SF4 and SFV
I an many more disagree.
The game is hella ugly.
It has some chars that look fine, despite the horrid proportions (not only hand and feet mind you).
Is not oly the 3d models, but how the lighting interacts with all the elements, the stages that are mostly uninspired, stages that run at 30fps while the action runs at 60fps, etc
It woudlnt be replaced on the usa fgc that easily, that is for sure, capcom has that dick stuck on that ass very hard.
But if we go by the numbers on how much sfv sold, and how much have sold other fgs games, we can infere that the brand has lost its appeal with the general public and that is something that should be a concern if the fgc plans to be so dependant of sf being the main event.
Why should it be a concern? We should be glad SF is losing its appeal. I mean everyone here wants E-sports to be done right? Well if SF falls off, maybe E-Sports no longer sees the appeal in FGs and the “real” FGC can return.
