What other big events can you walk into for just about free, and surround yourself with majority teens and kids and not also more than likely be in the same building that said person is sleeping/staying at? And not a single person questions who you are, why you look like a creep or where you came from?
Yeah a open venue thatâs encourages people of all kind to show up that has a bunch of kids/teens/adult in a small area is going to attract degeneratesâŚclearly.
When me and the crew stopped going to locals especially individually a year or so ago, a big part of that is because we were a handful of 33 plus dudes around 90 percent 23 and under kids. At some point it was just like yeah we donât belong here man, at least not individually.
I donât understand this whole mindset of âyou can do this or that all you wantâ people just need to do better. Like do people not read books, or know history? People are going to people, you have to minimize that stuff the best you can.
Reminds me of folks that donât want to wear mask because. At least try to take precautions, even if it detours one person thats worth it.

When violence was a big deal in esports a year or so ago, they took all these precautions with security, and what you could and couldnât bring in or wear over your face, bags and increased security

Just about any anime or gaming con/event will have younger audience mixed with adults. Sporting and musical events too depending on the type.
The situation FGC and smash are seeing are these degenerates being known to community heads/TOs and staying silent. These people need to outed immediately and bodied on the spot so they stop coming around.
So nah, I donât buy that separating being a cure all to shit like this. We need individuals to not be shit bags and open their mouths to the BS they see.

Thereâs a big problem though of people not cleaning up their local scenes. I had an issue with some new people that came in years ago. They came in kinda rowdy, trying to do magically talk shit about a lot of stuff weâd done and doing shit to split the scene.
Had to dial up a bunch of SRKers and other FGC dudes I know to vet them to better deal with the situation.
TDP has a point that its encouraged to show up to hotel casuals and all sorts of shit in this scene. Thatâs kind of a highlight of majors. At the same time youâre right that local scenes have been letting legit misbehavior slide. Combine the two and you get some of this fuckshit going on.

Nintendo just doesnât want to be associated with the dumpster fire that the FGC has been publicly outed as being. At this point, Nintendo likely doesnât even want even the tenuous connection of the genre label. The FGC and Smash communities have shown itself to be Nintendoâs worst dreams.
That isnât a victory for âSmash isnât a fighting gameâ believers; it is a condemnation of them.
Note that this stands even with the image being fake. Nintendo hasnât wanted association with the FGC in the past, even before the FGC/Smash community was outed.

Thing with Wiz in particular is probably that people have spoken about this within circles and never gone full public, there was never a big enough platform/movement for it to happen. I think there are most likely far too many people who knew about this that did nothing and thatâs as worrying as Wiz himself, people abide by his behaviour until it gets caught. This isnât taking into account the other instances of EVO staff being shitty on multiple occasion but I hope that ends up getting the attention it deserves too.
Iâm sure enough people knew about how weird he was and the sexual advances he made on people.
My only critique of the OG vs new wave is that a lot of OGs want liberty to spout nasty shit with no repercussion, or be terrible humans in general. Grassroots and player focused community are great aspects, but I think people feeling comfy and safe in a gaming scene should be standard.
Yeah, I figured it was fake. Nintendo is probably more concerned with the larger Smash dumpster fire than they are Wiz, and thus wouldnât cite Wiz alone as the reason for pulling out of Evo.
