It never did, as it was a game for pervs, furries and pedos according to some corners of the internet, also sexists pigs according to buzzfeed and the like.
They probably knew this, which is why they are desperate to out Mike of the company.
Outside indie studios full of the sjw type, they dont have a future in the industry, since anyone with 2 brain cells would never hire clear liabilities.

I have no fear that the Skullgirls animators can still get work. Having honey stuff in your resume never stopped anything as far as I can tell. People can make straight up porn and still be illustrating for comics.

They are probably better doing porn on patreon/subscristar, the current state of the western animation industry is worse than the video game industry in terms of how exploited and how low paid they are.
For starters, all the animation is outsourced to animation sweatshops in china, south korea, philipinas, etc.
And they are payd peniques, not enough to even buy a coffee for someone living in cities as expensive as them.
Their expertice is one that is not favored in the videogame industry right now, since no one is doing 2d animations, and 2d artists can be outsourced easily.
And those who worked on Mike’s engine are even more fucked.
If they didnt touch code, their years of experience amount to nothing, since no one else is using his tech.

Most of animators here in philippines are just inbetweeners for 2D, bandai outsources here.
And for 3D mostly are modelers.
Usually students loves joining bandai and etc.

Autumn owns the IP and all of that while Hidden Variable works on the mobile version. With that being said, Annie should have no problem with at least debuting in the mobile version.

Honestly probably better
All my knowledge of what high level skullgirls is is from a friend of mine’s perspective, but that dude is seriously godlike at the game. He told me that mike does have an overarching balance philosophy for the game but plays favorites with the characters (bella and big band especially) and even worse, nerfs characters and teams he loses to at events lol
my boy CLOWNED on mikez as beowulf and next patch? all the strats he used on him were nerfed out the game…Not the only time that happened supposedly.
Besides this I mean skullgirls isnt exactly a popular game precisely because its gameplay is such unadulterated bullshit lol. Theres no guarantee a new person on balance will be any better, but it does present the possibility of change and thats enough to make even me kinda give a shit about what happens to skullgirls from here.
