BB always got shafted for having arcade releases taking forever to come to console so ArcSys could milk them for that sweet arcade money and to wrap up Story Mode/get data for the console release balance patch.
This is different than they going “This patch is so wack, we’re going back to the old one.”
Not saying I wholeheartedly believe what he’s saying but damn it really does make alot sense. I hate rumors because now I wanna know what exactly sf6 was shaping up to be before this supposed shift. What if it was actually good lol.
As any franchise SF had it’s good and bad moments.Ono did bring back SF though, so respect for that again. I do hope he wasn’t fired and he just wanted to retire, as it’s probably a terrible feeling to be fired from a job you loved so much.
If any info about the “scraped” version of SF6 emerges after SF6 is launched you can bet your ass people will make countless threads about how it would had been better and only fuel the shitstorm.
While I share the same curiosity as you, tbh I think it’s best it remains hidden info.
For what I am seeing here is Ono just resigned, the guy has been criticize badly for other stuff he wasn’t in-charge directly in.
He acted most like to be the guy that promote stuff and talked stuff in public so everything would be directed towards him. He is a producer and he is also like an acting spokesperson. His job is not just to promote but also is to defend the team he is assigned with
This isn’t the same case of the function in MVCi.
Obviously he resigned before the reveal. I don’t think this had something to do with the rumor of SF6, I believe the resignation post was to clarify.
What happened to SFXTK was something of a disaster, I don’t think the risk and gamble was his responsibility.
Actually I am now worried with the future titles beyond SF5 if there would be something next or would go further.
If the rumor guy was right, he would had said in advance that Ono is done with SF not demoted.
Judging Ono’s SF legacy is gonna be weird. SF4 evolved into a super solid game in a lot of spots. SFxT is some great ideas and some goofy nonsense that didn’t need to be there (gems in general were unnecessary).
Had the Intel World Cup gone through and some of the other things, I think we would’ve seen Ono in his best light as a brand ambassador. Instead we gotta deal with the Ono who made games that would make you wanna play old busted shit instead.
Tricky legacy but overall more positive than negative.
Ono legacy is SF4 (he’s done more than that) Sf4 basically brought fighting games back into the lime light, it also is probably the 1st fighting game that had decent netcode. Which is a HUGE reason it was successful that many people don’t even think about.
I do think its probably for the best of capcom’s FGC over all that someone is leading things up but that’s no slight to Ono.
I’ve been an SF fan for almost 30 years and 15 years ago I though I’d never see a new game in the series. 12 years ago Ono changed that. Farewell to him and thanks for all his efforts. 3, 2, 1…
Sad to hear Ono go, he was a big voice in favour of Street Fighter at Capcom.
Also, the leaks still don’t make much sense as far as I’m concerned.
Xkira had an history of being correct too, and he didn’t have the baggage of being a bloody Resetera mod, the only mods on the internet that are more trigger happy than Aris mods.
Broken clocks have an history of being correct too, and they too have nothing to do with Resetera.
“bow out gracefully”
That’s not how japanese companies do it. They probably put him under a shit ton of stress to make him quit instead of just firing him and spending way too much cash in severance.
