Alright, we gotta clarify some things here about the real absurdity of the situation.
The official SNK twitter was “horny on mains” and some women didn’t like it, citing it was repulsive for an official twitter.
Women who are cool with lewd cosplay, lewd fan art and all sorts of other bullshit decide to clutch their pearls at it.
More specific to SRK, the person who wanted to post nude fan art she commissioned of characters took exception to jokes about nude fan art being commissioned of characters as a joke.
It was unprofessional but I don’t get the hate
SNK is a professional video game company which made the character to look that way because of that specific response it created. Iroha looks that exactly for people to be horny.
Twitter is used for informal communication and common man humor constantly by multiple professional entities. Nothing they did was out of character for the shenanigans companies use twitter for. It was literally “gamers” who want to be respected suddenly mad that the horny bullshit they were sold was acknowledged and advertised as horny bullshit by the people who created it.
Fan service has always been weird to me, but it’s a thing you are going to experience if you play any japanese game for the most part. I’ve become pretty numb to it at this point.
Plenty of games on PC dont have crossplay when they are bought on different storefronts.
So dont act like only happens on consoles.
Is until the last couple of years that you are starting to see more companies trying to integrate their games on pc as a whole, and even then still isnt the norm.
The reality is that having crossplay why ideal, is not a priority for most of them.
Add that there can be hidden dificulties for having it.
For starters, they all have different infrastructures, and if the games run on their servers (sony, nintendo, xbox, steam), instead of their own, like for example SFV, this can lead to a lot of hurdles for not having crossplay, specially if there are security risks attached to it.
TBH, why i would like for companies to be more consumer friendly, like crossplay being a more commong thing.
I think that the notion that it is imperative to have it is what is actually dumb.
This is the kind of thing that makes people say that gamers are an entitled bunch.
People think that is just a matter of turning a switch, but in relity there are plenty of reasons why so far it hasnt become a standard both valid and dumb.
At least with how it has become a more talked point, perhaps we will see it happening more often.
But i wouldnt lose my marbles for a game not having it
Right now, No Man Sky has crossplay between both consoles and pc.
Which has helped for Xbox and PC to boost the amount of players to play with, specially for xbox, who for what i know had problems managing to get the community events finished because they didnt have enough people for them to be done quckly.
If not officially, there is always the chance that FGC Translations on YT will do it.
I agree. The only part I thought was unprofessional was when someone in the comments was like “Hey I got some really lewd NSFW art of her but I don’t think I should post it here” and the official account was like “Yeah probably not, but DM that to me ”, lol.
Not a professional look, but again, I don’t understand why it’s upsetting
I remember being very excited about that game even though I knew they won’t deliver all that was promissed. But oh boy have they lied a lot.
They patched a lot of stuff in and offered big updates free of charge but at launch that game was a disaster.
I think a bigger scam is Star Citizen though, I can’t believe people are still pumping money into that thing and spending thousands on ships they can’t even take out the hangar.
While i think that the negative reaction was kind of justified, i know it wasnt because they wanted to lie.
Keep in mind that 1st, Sean Murray is not a PR guy, so when he talked about the game he did it from the dev and creator perspective.
Is very likely they were sure that they would be able to deliver what they promised, but alas, they had a lot of difficulties on the road.
Like they had to lauch the game early than what they planned because the contractual obligations they had with Sony.
And they lost like 80% of their developement due a flood on their office, forcing them to start over for a lot of things while having the release date very near.
2nd, he clearly is socially ackward, so being in the spotlight and talking towards millions of people could be overwelming
3rd the media ran a hype train, taking a lot of things he said out of context and overblowing it, creating expectations that would be difficult to met.
Internet Historian actually made a great video about the whole thing
Fighting Games are a niche genre where casuals don’t really stick because they ain’t huge fans of the whole “You’re getting stomped a lot until you learn and you’re gonna love it! Understand?”
So when we get split playerbases, it hurts even more than big games that pull huge numbers on their own.
Crossplay makes it so people that only have one platform have an incentive to buy a game because they know that even if their platform isn’t the biggest, it has other pools to draw from. You can look at how many smaller games with crossplay got sales boosts when that was announced.
No one here is saying “flick the crossplay switch!” but the roundtable devs did in fact admit that in terms of the technology to do so, it’s not that complex, even though they have security protocols that need to be followed to the letter.
The investment for crossplay is a good deal to developers too. So, no, it’s not entitlement. How many times just in this thread we got potential players on the outside looking in because a game doesn’t have crossplay?
I want to remind you of the Wendy’s account roasting the hell out of everybody in the most unprofessional way possible and everyone loved it.
But when the SamSho’s account jokes about their fanbase being horny on the fanservice character, that’s too much.
Is not only a japanese thing.
Is just that western gaming has been highjacked by ideologues that want to force their shit on others, making it less common this gen.
But if you look at older games, you can see that fanservice was also something that happened on them.
Just look at MK9 for example.
Plus, is not like all jap games have fan service to them.
There is always a great variety that ranges from fan service heavy to not much fanservice.
Also, fanservice is not only about the sexual kind.
MK focusing on hyper violence is also a type of fanservice.
