The Street Calibur 5 Lounge: The Soul Burns But not as Hard as the FGC is Burning

And the new guard should respect the fact that they have a show because of the original. Don’t attack old fans for not “knowing the lore” when you are actually the one ignorant of the lore. I’ll use a non She-Ra based example. When the ill fated Green Lantern movie starring Ryan Reynolds was coming out, I ran into several people bitching about them “white washing” the character. I had to explain to them that John Stewart wasn’t the original Green Lantern and that Hal Jordan proceeded him. Just like I had to be corrected about Hal Jordan being the “first” Green Lantern. It was Alan Scott.

This also isn’t She-Ra specific, but more a sad reflection of our times. That same situation today would play out with significant number of people doubling down on their ignorance instead of accepting reality. Just the like earlier example I listed of modern She-Ra fans harassing girl on Twitter when it was them that didn’t know what the hell they were talking about.

It’s interesting how they’re really worried about finding ways to make the barrier of entry to FGs low without compromising the ceiling.

They mentioned several times about how to make the game satisfying for the people that actually practice.

This is so interesting.

No Netcode Question. The FGC has let me down.

Granblue news next saturday? Did I get this right?

It’s basically the Holy Grail of fighting games. If you can pull it off. You’ll have game that can be enjoyed by casuals at a low level but also can appeal to high level players looking for depth.

So, they avoided netcode, and talked about stuff that it’s kinda fluff.
Now we get stuff.

I’m not surprised. When it comes to Japan and netcode, I expect the worse and hope for the best.

I really like how Granblue was mentioned, because its Special mechanics are simple but have a lot of depth to it.

I think the answer doesn’t lie on execution, but in the mindgames and strategies players can choose mid-match and how flexible they can be.

It is really simple.
For starters, you can have games of diferent type of entry levels.
Not every game needs to be made for babies, like not every game needs to be casual friendly.

2ndly, you can have characters that have different levels of difficulty to use.
I know it is hard to balance the risk reward, but it is a nice way to start.
Another thing that can be done in that line is to have something like what GGXrd and BBCF have with an easy mode, but instead of being an after thought, it could be an alternate way of playing the char, like a groove system, or like a variation system.

Also, while the final goal of fgs is to face other people off, one of the reason why SC was so popular up to SC4 was its robust single player modes.

Give people stuff that can do outside fighting others, also, those modes could serve as training/tutorial modes in disguise.

Max has more views re-streaming this than 3 of the official channels combined.

Keep in mind that the questions are feeded to them.
They probably have a lot of questions asking for netcode, but they maybe have a schedule were they will be tacking different subjects as time passes, so they are maybe saving it for when they will talk about netcode.
Who knows.

Well some of the questions did need to be asked. Crossplay, Accessibility for sure did need time.

Which is fucking sad.
But also, comprehensible.
For what i know, only the capcom stream has english commentar, with the others being only in japanese.

Avatar’s crew made the new She-ra? WTF? I always felt the new She-ra needed to reskin Korra and they instead reskinned Friendship is Magic. My mind is literally blown right now. Like literally, I was like “Imagine if they took Korra’s thematics and beautiful art/animation and made She-ra out of it.” How they hell did they screw this up so bad? Is the showrunner/writer/artist or whoever that lady they brought in to steer the show that bad?

Me saying the storytelling was good was virutal signaling? Majortiy of the cast had good character arcs specifically Catra, Scorpia, Double Trouble, and etc.

I don’t know who lied to you that the people who made Korra made it. lol Maybe some crossover but the leads everywhere are different people. Never saw big advertisements over it.

Personally Korra looked pretty but it was a much bigger mess for most of it’s seasons. Long drawn out shallow teen romance that teens didn’t even care for. Way too many comedy characters, Bolin was good then became unbearable. Korra lacking screen time and she didn’t get half the development or focus as Aang in her own show. The whole thing ends in a boring giant mech on a rampage battle instead of a true bending fight between Korra and Kuvira. I am not offended by the gay romance at the end but it lacked any substance. I am never a fan of the suddenly I am with my lover because it’s the end of the final episode trope in anything.

She-Ra was better than Korra though TLBA blows both out the water by a mile. Steven Universe is actually pretty good but I am not sure if I would claim them in the same genre.

I the crossplay yes, and they basically went, SONY is a bitch.
Accessibility, I suppose?
I don’t care about it but I’m old, I guess is a more important question than what my personal perception of it is.

No it wasnt.
They promoted it as something made by the people who worked on it.
But in reality, it was just PR talk, with only like few people, and they didnt work on what it mattered.

The thing with execution-heavy characters is that they’re really tricky to balance.

This is definitely what pulls in casuals. SC6 is a great game on that front.

Character customization, 2 story modes, just a lot of content to sink your teeth in. A casual looks at it and thinks “Ok, this is worth 60 bucks.”

I been telling people how good offline content is super important for almost 4 years now.

Bamco got Jiyuna on the mic. I posted the link earlier.

Avatar people worked on The Dragon Prince, and you can see the DNA of Air Bender/Korra in it, despite Dimartino and the other guy not working on it. She-ra is just… so … bland/generic looking. I honestly want to blame current animation trends, but Korra was 5 years ago, Dragon Prince, which was also funded by Netflix, was 2 years ago. I still can’t wrap my head around how She-ra ended up. It’s so half ass. Teen Titans Go and Thundercats Roar are on purpose bastardizations (Teen Titans Go is funny though). She-ra was like “We’ll try, but not do it right, but like this half baked show we made anyways. But if you don’t like it, you’re the scum of the Earth”
