the stream

What do you want exactly? Are we all only supposed to just blow smoke up peoples asses or is this not a discussion forum to openly share views on Evo?

“Get over it … /thread”? I think you fail to understand the point of a discussion board

what’s there to discuss when everything is obvious?
streams going down sucks, having a commentator with no clue sucks. shit happens… deal with it

overall the stream was great, not only because it existed, but because it was way better than last year.

“haters gonna hate” = “you have a valid point but I don’t so I’m going to try to act cool with internet lingo”

The real positive is that a company like G4 would have seen a hall full with over 2000 people going CRAZY along with well over 25 thousand people watching live round the world from home on their computers.

That is a very very positive thing for the FGC.

Not 25k, but about 50k (ustream+stickam+restreams).

Wow, there have been some really stupid posts. The whole free of charge arguments is one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard. Yes, it didn’t cost money, BUT by having them stream it kept all other parties who would have streamed from streaming. Do you understand that at all? By having level up stream no one else was allowed to do the streaming THUS costing us the ability to have someone competent in control. Also, the point about being able to watch the finals 2 hours later is such a stupid point. Watching the final when it happened is about being in the moment. Having a 3 day build up and then in particular hours of build up in top 8 to have it crash in finals is INEXCUSABLE. And don’t even start on having that hack sesslar commentate when there are 309243904 better commentators in the room who actually know what they are talking about. What a complete failure the stream was. And anyone who says, " oh but it was fine the other days" is a moron. Friday and Saturday had issues also.

i think the stream is good. just the way they organized it’s not so good. they have no backup plan. They put people that know nothing about the players and the game to do commentary.I hope at the end it was the stream died, that was the reason they can’t stream what happen after Daigo won.
I think alot of people want to see what was going after the final match.
The stream was better this year, but overall i think last year was a better experience.(not about the matches)

I guess the days of reading what happened then finally seeing the matches a year later on a $45 DVD are dead.

Spoiled kids these days, whats sad is you know all these complainers who are whiny little brats are 09/10ers. Back in our day, we had to drive uphill to tournaments both ways, in the SNOW while carrying our arcade cabinets on our backs just to catch a glimpse of the 24" tv that the finals were taking place on.

Nowadays when the stream crashes from 30k viewers on Ustream and 17k on Stickam, plus the thousands of people restreaming those same links, people get all uppity and entitled

Thanks for reminiscing on the past, ol’timer and comparing something (physically travelling to a location) that has nothing to do with the main subject at hand (computer error or human error in a computer generated stream) and then bashing the present population because we don’t live 5-10 yrs in the past. Applause

Some people need to update their sarcasm detectors.

09r…

It was heartbreaking when the stream went down, nevertheless LevelUp made an awesome job at streaming all the semi-finals and the finals, thank you for a good job.

Sorry if I pissed off some people yesterday at the chat, not a good way to talk to people that I haven’t even met, sorry.

I do appreciate the work that went into it considering it was free but the combination of the dropped crucial moment and Sessler simply cannot be made up for. It was unfortunate but I can’t help but feel it could have been avoided. <insert rage here>

good shit to level|up, really stepped up after friday and got shit done

good shit to gootecks and team spooky for holding it down in the salty suite

good shit to srk showing how terrible this community is

<3

Back in the ol’days stream defenders used to blow off each other.
FREE for fucks sake, brain usage disabled.

It was advertisiment for Level Down when they got the stream deal. They were not doing it for the community only. They are doing business and streaming one of the biggest pro gaming events is a chance for them. Because they did it, it was banned from anyone else, like alan909090 already said. And is it proven that your so beloved Level Down did it FREE for Evo organization?

Someone of the defender squad fuckin tell me if it was FREE or not? If they got paid to do the job, then how anyone can defend them for doing a SHIT JOB? If they did it FREE they still dropped the ball. I’m pretty sure FADC would have done better job than these bunch of scrubs.

Props to LevelUp for providing the stream, it was shaky on the first day, finally more consistent and better by the second day and overall, good stream. Tekken was by far the best part of the stream and I don’t particularly care what others say

Dropping on the most important part, the grand finals and completely robbed the streamonstars the epic final moment of the winner’s victory will leave a blotch and can (probably is) weigh more then all the good things the providers had done. It’s hard to maintain a good rep but it’s hella easy to ruin it in like 5 seconds.

god…so much unappreciation that it’s mind boggling.

Ok…they advertised a ton of the stream? soooo on that just from my perspective i spent over 20 hours(a conservative estimate) watching the stream and every single time an advertisement came up i started chatting to people on msn, got up to take a leak, got up to grab a bite etc in other words of all those hours of watching the FREE stream because i was too broke to get there i spend maybe 10 minutes the entire weekend watching their advertisements. I dare any one of u to actually sit here and say “yes i watched every advertisement, i clicked all the links posted and i also went to every web site advertised to support evo!”. None of u did even half of those things and most are u probably did the exact same thing i did so get off the argument of advertising. It is irrelivent. And if u didnt know about all of those companies that were advertised beforehand then u live under a rock.

Next with regards to the guy saying back in the day we used to yada yada yada…while that might be in fact the past and people will say that today is a new day yes that is true however, u miss the point he is trying to make. The point is u should be grateful that people are taking the time to bring the experience right to where you’re sitting on your bitter lazy ass thousands of miles away watching. You were nothing but a financial burden to them in the grand theme of things. Yes u are part of the community but that does not mean u should expect people to give u a cookie to retard you for not showing up. If u dont like how things went instead of qqing on a forum next time show up, or better yet show up and volunteer yourself to help in any way possible for free. No? k stfu then.

Last people love to critique the stream based on the bad timing of a crash. Yes maybe they could have had a “backup” plan but really what do u suggest? Streams go down alllll the time. I’ve watched ufc event online, hockey games online, boxing matches online and guess what the common theme is? They often go down even if just briefly. The fact that it went down during the finals yes it does suck but shit happens. Get the hell over it. The stream was beautiful in comparison to last year, less freezes(last year the stream dropped for me probably over a dozen times during the weekend) AND all of this happened with from what i can tell, a HUGE influx of people watching the stream in comparison to last year. Last year i remember seeing maybe 30 k total between all the streams for the finals. this year every stream i went to (i knew of 4…and last year i knew of 2) and each one had 20 k people during even things like melty blood finals which maybe one out of a thousand of u actually give a rats ass about. I didnt look at all the streams during the finals but mine alone was 40 k. I think i’m safe to say other streams probably had the same number if not more. Do u know how much bandwidth that is? You think crashes are not going to happen even with the number of servers they had running? They got the best FREE service they could. This wasnt espn running the event it was levelupseries running it with limited funds and resources so how about u consider that when judging the stream in its entirety.

All in all u people need to either offer yourself to help in any way possible next year of shut up. Get involved and put in the work or really you’re just a random part of the masses of sheep. Getting angry over one ill-timed moment which im sure they could not avoid reflects poorly on yourself and the community as a whole especially with this many of u focusing SOLELY on the crashing of a server, during the final round of a match u knew the outcome to already. And grandted the hype is gone when watching the matches on youtube but they at least did what they could to give u guys the matches afterwards. Maybe they should just say “ok fine f u asshats next year there will be no stream and if u want to see the matches come here and/or buy the dvd afterwards” which is something none of u complaining are considering. None of u have even considered buying that dvd and i’ll bet money that they sold less then a thousand copys of last year’s evo as well considering the matches are all over youtube. Show some respect people…and get your head out of yours asses. Focus on the whole not the one shitty moment.

Next year, I would not mind paying $3-5 for exclusive premium access to the stream. Fuck, I know I’ve paid 10 times that for a boxing match on PPV for a fight that lasts less than 2 hours. That way it can stay free for everybody else, and they can buy what ever equipment, but if the band with hits a certain amount, only the paid people get to stay on.
