the stream

Im gonna go with SNK Lime on this 1

displeasure by calling out people who support level up and the community? saying they’re dickriders? and secretly supporting them for blowjobs? yeah, grow up already.

When it blows over? You mean when time passes. Months from now, it will still be one of the remarks made about EVO2010, and if you don’t think so, I’ll bet money that in six months, I can ask folks what they remember about the EVO stream and one of the first things will be how it had some extremely poor moments.

As for IndianGuy…even though you have been a known troll on these boards, I will humor you. my statements are retorts to the folks who think complaining is for ‘haters’. How are you going to get out of highschool if you don’t understand having an opinion and conviction is important in life? Mom and dad aren’t always going to be there to give you an allowance and buy your video games. Tell me how I’m calling out folks who support level up? I’m not…I’m responding to the folks who turn a blind eye to the errors and front like they weren’t bummed.

The only way to see the finals is to point directly to the flv:

Any other way redirects to the youtube random videos page…

'yall are a bunch of spoiled brats, seriously

Yeah, sure the stream fucked up now and then, but considering the opportunity you guys had to see so much of the tourney without incurring cost of going there, it was great. I’m so happy I able to see as much of it as I did. The only thing that really turned me off about it was Sesler.

As far as the technical problems… boy, I’d love to see you guys get involved in event production.

Months from now? The only thing I can be sure of months from now is that you will still be another SRK drone who acts hard and thinks they know more than they really do. You have an opinion? What is your opinion? That levelup fucked up and the community is gonna suffer? You think a stream dropping in one tournament is gonna hurt THIS community? This community has survived the massive arcade crash and hung on for years because of a core group of people who dedicated their time to strengthening it. The same type of people you’re trying to drag through the mud for who knows what reason.

The reason the community likes levelup is tenfold and nobody here who knows the first thing about ANYTHING is gonna try to slander them or discredit them for a TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY. The fact is, the stream is over and the videos are online. The only way this could possibly hurt the community is if assholes like you keep rallying even noisier assholes until your shit reaches critical mass. Then maybe you can get some naive losers at GameFAQs to agree with you. If you don’t want the community to suffer then simply shut the fuck up and stop perpetuating this conception that levelup is bad and people who like them are nuthuggers. Levelup has done way more for the community than you ever will, but if you want to start off your list of contributions by being an ungrateful shit than go right ahead.

These community defenders just won’t admit the stream was a failure. I wonder what needs to happen so one can call stream a failure? Something like salty loser in top 8 ejaculating to a fightstick on live stream? Please tell me defenders, where goes the line of a MAJOR FUCK UP?

Agree about the last part.
Their reputation is ruined for one failure.
I think there will be lots of firing inside that company…
I feel sorry for the employees.

Woah woah woah…mayhaps you’re as bitter towards my statements as I am towards the stream, but I didn’t say level up was bad. I said their current stream was. Tell me I’m wrong and I’ll know you’re in denial. As usual, fanboys are quick to pretend they’ve read something in order to help them back up a point, but if you had read my posts, I am displeased with this one stream. Did I say it would bring the community down? No. I said it may make it come off as second-rate, but that’s to he expected when the pinnacle event is marred in errors and hiccups.

If you think my one insignificant voice will be detrimental, then I guess I’m not as much of a drone as you initially thought, huh? The truth is that this thread asked an opinion and I gave mine. Just because it’s not the same as yours, doesn’t mean it’s wrong and just because it’s negative, doesn’t mean the world will end.

You’re so focused on turning a blind eye and quickly moving past an obvious error for whatever reason, but I’d like it addressed and discussed. What happened? Where was the error? What needs to be done so it doesn’t happen next year and disappoints 100,000 stream viewers? If you’re mentality is that we should just shrug and not worry ourselves, then you’ll never get anything more than a mediocre offering instead of a constant improvement through admittance of where there were shortcomings.

What the fuck are you talking about? Are you trolling me? They aren’t a big corporation, they’re a small group of players and fans. Their reputation amongst the community, and I’m talking about the people who support growth and NOT the people who talk shit and play theory fighter on the forums all day, is unchanged.

About Level Up

Seriously, know what the fuck you’re talking about before you, ya know… talk about it.

Yeah, thanks to their good coverage we lost all the pools and all the the semi-finals except SSF4, TvC and Tekken (few of them, actually)…

I, on the other side, want them to upload all the pools and semi-finals of MBAA.
And to recheck all their equipment and the staff, thus avoiding something like this next year.

There is something wrong with this statement:

  • There was only one (maximum 2, one for ustream and one for stickam) stream going out from the hotel to the distribution servers, so there were no bandwith problems on the hotel line.
  • Ustream has multiple servers, so the stream arriving to it was restribuited evenly trough all the servers, permitting a good playback.
  • Stickam, on the other side, seemed to have bandwith problems, at least at the beginning.
  • That said, there could be no bandwith problems on the hotel’s line and no bandwith problems with the redistribuiting servers, because, if it was like that, one of the two services (stickam/ustream) would have still worked. Instead, both crashed, so it was an internal problem, a problem with the source of the streaming.

We all watched the advertising crap they trasmitted once in a while, so cut it out with the “you didn’t pay, so you didn’t deserve anything” crap.

Why the heck didn’t they stream EVO across three different live streams to split up the audience? Obviously Stick was struggling when they hit 10k viewers and Ustream was having problems once they hit 25k viewers. If they had streamed it across Ustream, JustinTV, and Stick then pointed the viewership to all three sites, they could have split the viewership and keep the crashes to a minimum. It definitely wouldn’t have been impossible to do. Either that or make sure the stream channel you are going to use knows that you are going to have 30k+ people watching so they can setup their load balancing servers accordingly. The way it was handled was a joke.

Instead they leave it on one stream and it blows up IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FINAL MATCH! So damn frustrating. After watching Daigo send Ricky to losers, I knew Daigo was going to win (he was on point), but that didn’t mean I didn’t want to watch the match. I like being proven wrong and I though maybe Ricky could have done so.

Another thing that pisses me off about this whole thing is they completely cut out any type of awards ceremony. What? you think we don’t want to see the awards? I know they were switching over consoles, but there’s no reason they couldn’t have had a stage camera to let us see what the awards were like. There was so much going on that wasn’t handled properly. It’s really frustrating. When comparing EVO to what DJWheat did with Devastation, it’s not even close.

Yes I understand that the viewership for EVO was about 5 times the viewership of Devastation and anybody would have had stream crashing problems. That’s to be expected with 30k online viewers, but Wheat got all of the little things right that Levelup got wrong. First and foremost, the awards ceremony like I mentioned before. Why the hell would you not show them. It makes no sense. We got to see other things between matches besides just a dead stream. We even got to hear some music between matches. Okay so there would be licensing problems with playing music between matches, why not get a radio station as a sponsor or a DJ and have them spin stuff while you guys are setting up the next game? Don’t just leave a dead stream. The DJWheat stream was better because we got to feel the whole experience it was all the little things that they got wrong in comparison. I’d say that’s my biggest complaint even more so than the stream crashing (since I know there are limitations to streaming technology at the moment)

That being said, the tournament itself looks like it mostly ran on time which is a major accomplishment. I’m sure the future DVD that will be released will look very professional unlike the stream, but it just doesn’t make sense to have a stream that bad in comparison.

There were other things that annoyed me. None existing coverage for most of the non-SF games (again, something Devastation got right). No online brackets or live bracketing at all. Come on, there’s tons of live bracketing systems that could have been used even if you couldn’t show the stream for people might have wanted to know about what was going on in other games. Commentators not realizing that their mics pick up sound even when they aren’t directly on them so their private conversations were heard (two major instances where during HD Remix where Ski was told not to take point on commentary because of his voice and after Tekken when Aries (I’m not sure if it was Aries or someone else), so proud that he didn’t curse on the stream, drops the F bomb right after putting down the mic.) Oh and the commentary during the finals was bad. Sure Sessler isn’t a fighting man and can’t keep up with what is going on in stream, but Seth man, you got to stop saying putting him on notice every time anything happens.

But yeah, I’m done I should stop before I get upset again. That’s the whole reason I went to sleep before posting.

Such a dissapointing night. The whole Finals experience was shockingly ruined yesterday IMO

  • Sessler on the mic. was an utter joke and massively sucked out all of the hype for what is a great once a year occasion. I don’t need to go into why he was so bad, everyone even Seth K knew. We could make tons of threads on some of the face palm moments of his “commentry”

  • Ok, so G4 had to have him there? Fine, why not supplement him with at least one of the other orig. commentators? So you’d have skill, ski/keits/chen, sess. If you’re going to bring the great Evo to tv, don’t remove what makes it so great… ie, passionate, insightful & fun commentry.

  • The stream dying out at crucial times

  • The ending was LOL it was so ruined. Keiths and ski coming on air to apologise for the stream cutting out, then as they were about to give awards out the camera moves around and Keits and Ski were cut off and the transmission is cut off abrubtly. No post Evo wrap up thoughts or anything just BLACK SCREEN

The Semis and pool matches were really well done, and I’d have been full of praise if things had been kept the same… I just can’t understand why you changed your great commentry team. I could accept the stream cutting out as just one of those things, but getting that idiot sess on mic to commentate the finals at Evo? It just honestly beggars belief how you can shoot yourselves in the foot like that. What an embaressment.

To talk about the actual Competition:

  • Real shame Tokido was knocked out early
  • Ditto Sanford (I think he was robbed actually, that guy he was playing ended up pausing someone elses match…hmmm?)
  • Ricky ‘dull’ Ortiz making it to the finals for a match we all knew deep down he’d never win
  • Highlights: Gamerbee, Infiltration, Tokido beasting, Vangief (great player!)

I’d like to know where you got the idea that they earn big bucks for running streams.

Oh.
Sorry, my bad. I thought they were a large company specialized in streaming of large events.
It seems, though, that they are only a bunch of amateurs.
