Your half-assed attempt at a troll post will become relevant as soon as you host a stream that supports 30,000+ viewers on an internet connection that you’re not able to regulate how many other people are using at the same time.
Anyone who didn’t expect the stream to crash during the end of the tournament is naive. Fact of the matter is that Level Up did an overall good job of streaming the event throught the weekend. Sure there were bumps and slip-ups, but that will only allow them to learn from mistakes and produce even better quality in their future events.
On that same note, anyone in this thread that argues that Level Up’s stream crash will “ruin Evolution’s chances of being taken seriously” needs to wake up. Last years stream had it’s fair share of problems and the support and backing of Evo looks like it doubled over that year.
Yeah, it’s unfortunate that the stream went out, but it didn’t cost you anything, and you’ve probably already watched the matches on the Evolution YouTube channel by now if they meant that much to you. Stop complaining just for the sake of complaining. They did a stand-up job.
Pretty much all that needs to be said. It’s true that the stream was free and we all got our money’s worth, but does that really change the fact that the stream was a failure?
In any case, let’s assume that everything with the stream was an accident and all is forgiven. What is up with the decision to have Adam Sessler commentate? He has obviously never played this game in his life. It was a conscious decision to have him co-commentate the finals.
What a disaster.
Like anyone was really on the edge of their seat waiting for Ricky to… reset the bracket.
When it went down I’d be lying if I was shocked to find out Daigo won when it came back up.
Agreed. Ricky’s a very talented player, but I knew Daigo won the moment Infiltration was eliminated.
Good point. BTW Let’s not televise the World Cup finals because evvverrrybody already knew that Spain was gonna win it.
For all of you blaming it on Stickam, it was streaming on ustream as well, so that wasn’t the problem.
Also, do you honestly think that they were just sitting there, and all of a sudden someone was like “OH LEMME HIT THIS BUTTON” and the stream went down?
Most likely it went down by itself, with no warning, witohut anyone doing anything, or due to some freak occurance.
it doesn’t matter. you don’t dick around when it comes to 30K+ viewers. both feeds got cut off. it’s on their end – until there is some explanation.
and if any of you are going to blame the casino’s technological resources, you better have some shit to back it up with
Wait, what? Is this Sassler, because you sure have just said some dumb shit. So let me get this strait…you EXPECTED the stream to fail? I put that in bold so you could read it and everyone else could take in the sheer stupidity of that statement. If something is going to be seen by that many people on that huge a scale, as professionals who claim to be able to do a job, you take precautions. You don’t chalk up the failure to volume, shrug your shoulders and say you weren’t expecting that to happen because the truth of the matter is that that’s exactly what EVO was going for…volume. That’s why G4 was there and that’s why there’s a stream…for the exposure. You can’t plan for exposure then chalk up your failure to the very thing you were counting on to happen.
As for me putting together a stream before commenting…well, again, read it again and understand how idiotic your logic and reasoning is. Just because I don’t stream events, doesn’t mean I can criticize it for being executed poorly at the most critical moments? By your sound reasoning, from now on, you are now never allowed to make observations on cars because you don’t make them; you are not allowed to have an opinion on movies because you haven’t directed one; you are not allowed to talk about high level play because you haven’t placed in anything; how’s THAT for logic and reasoning, retard?
Level-Up fucked up a job they were commissioned to do…acting like it’s okay because the outcome was decided early doesn’t give level up an out and making retarded arguments won’t get you a bj from valle.
It was alright once they switched to ustream. The streamed matches were scheduled perfectly and flowed smoothly with almost no interruption. You never had to guess what’s going on in the screen and quality was smooth until the SSF4 finals started which had the player count jumped up another 6k.
It sounds like the stream died to to a technical failure. When you have equipment running non-stop over 15 hours over 3 days, things do break down at the most inopportune time. It happens. Better luck next time, Level Up team!
Clearly you haters haven’t been watching all the other streams levelup has put up this year. You really think there’s gonna be crazy fallout and levelup is gonna be any less used in the community? Y’all trolls are posting in a fantasy thread. Notice no one who means anything to the community is saying shit, just a bunch of johnny-come-latelys who mean about as much as a dried shit on a ballhair are saying anything bad about levelup. Streams drop. Sometimes they drop when a lot of people are watching it. Not every stream can support that amount of people for that amount of time without dropping. When streams do drop like that, how often do you see them uploading all the video of the finals in just a few hours? A technical error happened, it couldn’t be helped, and they did everything they could do about it as fast as humanly possible. You’re looking the gift horse in the mouth and you’re looking damn foolish.
pleb mentality. we all just need to shut up and enjoy what we are given. no criticisms allowed.
sure, Level|Up dropped the ball and it was regrettable what happened- but what exactly needs to be done so this won’t happen in the future? that’s most important.
“Dropped the ball” is an understatement. If I was at Evo and wanted to sabotage the stream, I would have grabbed the mic, said everything that Sessler said, then unplug the stream during the final match.
I am sad when I see a thread like this.
I just want to watch street fighter, why are people so focused on taking that away?
the point i’m trying to convey is that SRK should not be third rate, and shit like this only brings this community a step back. i have a friend who doesn’t play any fighting game come by to watch and was pretty baffled by what happened. he said if it was broadcasted in a much larger scale (a la tv networks), then they shouldn’t be welcomed to any forthcoming broadcast productions for something this big.
i have never seen a broadcast issue in korea starcraft majors, ever, and i should not be expecting this kind of broadcast quality if this community wants to step it up
Any true fan of fighting games shouldn’t be hating on the level up stream, they provided good coverage for three full days. If you are really angry about not seeing that grand final match, you should of went yourself, I’m sure anyways there will be a video of it posted.
That’s a good point. One of the commentators mentioned something about the temp being 101 degrees in there. I highly doubt it was that hot but my experience working in a data center with racks upon racks of servers and networking equipment tells me that something is bound to go wrong in that type of heat.
The way I see it…
Level-up gives the community FREE STREAMS of mostly every event. Yes there was an issue with it during the Evo Finals last night. But everyone is blowing this little hiccup WAY out of proportion. Not to mention that you can watch the video on their youtube channel soon… Honestly, only the chumps are crying over this. Props to Level-up. Thanks for doing what you do.
I’m disappointed too.
Stayed awake every night for 3 nights, and it was very hard, and the bad stream ruined my mood even more.
You all need to stop tripping. Mistakes can happen, people are human and technology can be fallible. I’m pretty sure level|up will address the issue and they (and Evo) will be better for it in the future. Relax.
