The Stinging Hook: Steve Fox General Thread

try standing fierce when your in close and continually flicker cancel it to pressure.

Oooh that sounds cool, I wonder how many recovery frames you can cut out. Thanks =P

cst. m is easier but they are both useful i like the fierce one for the extra damage tho if u land a hit but its harder to keep up

Man I am still struggling try to get Steve going.
I’ve been using Dudley for too long.

I’m finally starting understanding that Steve’s st.:hp: is the “little brother” eqivalent to Dudley’s st.:hk: when canceling into moves & stance.

Marn’s playing really well tonight. (For people from the Future check out the 3/10 archive vid in teams finals. http://www.twitch.tv/leveluplive )

After a forward throw in the corner…

Walk forward a pixel and jump HK on their wake up.

You’re welcome.

just found out that his forward strong causes a stagger state when it hits counter hit on a crouching opponent, you can combo crouch fierce into whatever you want after it.

anybody finding any usage for the peekaboo stance? just posted some frame data… Canceling normals into peekaboo (like people have been doing with flicker) could lead to some interesting pressure against grapple characters… I really wish that peekabo’s patella smash wasn’t MINUS TWENTY on block (gross)

his peekaboo moves are super unsafe.

but i want a use for everything he’s got haha

its actually got a lot less startup than going into flicker (peekaboo is 10, where flicker is 24)

EDIT: you can combo cr. HP into peekaboo cutting elbow so in theory you could do

jump in HK, HP xx stance xx c.HP xx peekaboo cutting elbow -> some sort of combo

EDIT2: I find it TREMENDOUSLY easier to cancel close standing HP to peekaboo then cancel peekaboo to crouching HP to combo instead of using flicker stance - I don’t know if you can actually cancel the stance sooner because the frame data we have isn’t specific enough, but it sure seems faster!

Somebody else should play around with this and tell me if I’m crazy or not.

After typing up that spreadsheet I found the guide is full of errors. I’m not so sure this is one of them though. There’s some weird canceling going on with the british edge chain combo. For example, if you do f+lp > mp > d+mk you won’t go into the crouching punch on mk, instead you go into weaving B. I’m thinking the c.mp after the british edge is somehow canceled similar to the flicker stance cancels.

I’m in agreement with weaving A/B being good for anti-air. It can be hard to crossup steve when he uses these to slip away into a combo. You just got to make sure you watch out for OS throws once people start learning the game, cause it beats weaving A/B when used as anti-air.

Just got done watching the lvlup stream from today, marn did really well with steve getting 2nd place. He showed how solid steve’s pressure and damage is but he also showed how ass his defense is. He had no answer for hugo rushdown.

To be fair Hugo is REALLY good when he gets a knock down.

I personally wasnt struggling with doing british edge into cr.mp. Infact i think im going to be using this a lot, ducking after the cr.mp leads for some tasty mixup potential on hit, if you go cr.mp > duck > Fox hunt instantly you get the hit. While if you go cr.mp > duck > gatling gun and delaying the gatling gun a little, it will land. I get so much rage from people :B

Oh by the way, Hi there. I’m relatively new to fighting games, I’m a pro smash bros player (dodge the brick) and im currently using steve/lili as my team in this

at 1:30 in this video steve does a move that looks like it dodges lows. I wasnt aware of this. what is it

That was his counter.

I thought his counter didn’t work on lows. mind blown*

I did a double take as well…I’m gonna mess with this later.

I thought it countered lows as well, but upon further testing and inspection the counter was actually triggered by a cr. lp which does not hit low. It’s interesting that the attack is fully invincible though.

Use this url for the slow motion version of the video and go to 1:30 (I suggest muting the sound).

new to steve fox. i wanna learn him because i can see he has a lot of potential to be one of the best characters in the game and not to mention he seems very heavy execution. I’m gonna spend my time here after training with my main team to watch vids and look at combos to try out with mr. fox.

I love his peekaboo stance

Good spot, because otherwise everyone in this thread would have been hitting up training mode trying to replicate that!

EX Counter does work on lows though, correct?
