The Stinging Hook: Steve Fox General Thread

shoutouts to NegroSakifor the beyond gdlk image
Steve Fox was introduced in Tekken 4, and he has returned for every subsequent game. He is the son of Nina Williams, who unknowingly had Steve while she was taking part inDoctor Boskonovitch’s cold sleep project. Steve found out during the Fourth Tournament that he was going to be assassinated by Nina; fortunately, this did not happen. He entered the Fifth Tournament to “settle the score” with the Mishima Zaibatsu. As of Tekken 6, Steve is training and teaming up with Paul Phoenix and Marshall Law. His father’s identity remains a mystery.
And, of course, he is the most ballin’ fighter of all time.
and most certainly the best to ever show up in Street Fighter X Tekken.
Consider this a hub of sorts for information on the British Boxer.

He’s my all time favourite from Tekken series. But after watching his gameplay from SFxT on YT, I doubt that it will be equally good in 2D. Well, I hope I’m wrong.

Anyone else notice that Steve’s supers build meter? Probably a programming oversight, but if not…

I think the other vids are like that too, it seems like all moves build meter in that specific build (check the other videos). Very weird.

Edit: iirc that is part of Pandora mode. I’m probably wrong though.

edit2: I sure was.

I’m interested to see what properties his dodge moves have.

whole lotta launchers it seems.

From the EVO build, I’m sure Steve’s counters at least counter mid or high depending on which button you used. I was trying one of the counters against jump-ins and it wouldn’t work, while one of the other buttons would work(think Gouken). There could be more properties to the counters, but I didn’t have any time to test this at EVO.

I was also watching the TGS stream yesterday and it seems they’ve given Steve a projectile. It’s the attack at 1:37 in the first video in the post above me. You don’t see it in the video because he’s right next to his opponent when he hits with it. There is a small red projectile that comes out of his fist and he yells “fire” or something. I don’t remember this attack producing a projectile in the EVO build.

It’s called hellfire. From what I’ve seen, the EX version almost looks like it has EX Gadoken range on the projectile part.

I swear to God… If Capcom gives him charge moves… Heads will roll.

ive played SFxT alot during comiccon and evo, my team that was really cheap was abel/steve, abel on point to open ppl up with TT and you can roll on reaction to fireballs/ DPs/ bad pokes and chain combo punish to cross rush. Steve is top tier as second RN because of that meter building super. All i had to do was abel punish then cross rush to steve, MP xx super, damage was like 43%-50%, it built like 1 and 1/3 bars so sometimes i would have another super ready again after steves super was done. Steve seemed really weak with footsies IMO but maybe its cuz i didnt find the potential with the sways and and stance changes but that will be found out when im in the lab! I asked seth killian if steve was the only one that had meter building super, and he said yea, and i asked is it gunna stay this way, and he said iono and laughed, soo we’ll see when the game comes out

more vids.

Looking to main him hopefully it works out

I played this game at First Look today, a gaming event right here in the Netherlands. Steve was one of my favorites, in a game were normals are junk, his decent normals almost felt like a godsend. His crouching jabs in particular were quite nice, really easy to hitconfirm into a launcher combo. His cross art was really fast and could punish even blocked normals on reversal. I blocked Rolento’s slide and did reversal Cross Art and punished it, which did huge damage.

His specials are kinda funky. He has SRK+P which is a sort of downward hook and then an upper. It seemed like it had a little bit of invincibility on startup, or just good priority. He also has a sort of Gadoken-like projectile with QCF+P, but it was actually useful! You could end blockstrings with it or use them to stop other projectiles. Quite useful! He also has a ducking move like Dudley, which is HCF+K. You can press P after it to get an uppercut. It was useful to get through fireballs obviously. His kick dodges also go through fireballs but the timing is a lot stricter. His HK was useful for this, HK is when Steve spins. In the air his kicks are just normal moves and he also has low kicks which are also moves. He has a Balrog-like sweep on his c HK but I didn’t test it much.

Overall Steve was a fun character to play and he seemed pretty good. Only thing that I think he might lack is a good anti-air, but I haven’t had time to test all of his normal and special move options.

his best AA is his taunt counter, its QCB+P ( i think its P but might be K, its been a long time), its like dudleys cross counter, only that steve hits with an overhead hook and makes them bend down staggered to there knees, leaving enough time to link a MP then chain combo into launcher. This counter was really good as AA but as for using against people ground normals its really weird, cuz i played against poongko like 10 matches and he found out that even if i absorb his hit by my counter, all he had to do is stand block and tha overhead hook that came out got blocked, so iono bout how reliable the move is but AA to obvious jumpins is its best use soo far.

heres a vid when i was barely learning the game at comic con, @ 2 mins is when i use his counter as AA

Does anyone know what notation is for that one kick move he has when he steps on your toe?
