Masrap is doing F+MP, Lp, W/e you want should do cr/st.lp, cr.mp
Cr.mp xx Duck (looks like lk) to get in if they block his cr.mp poke if it hits he can do fox hunt.
British edge (I think thats what its called st.lp xx B+MP?, Cr.mp xx combo.
idk why everyone in chat is getting so hype saying steve is s tier, steve gets mauled like a baby in a cave full of bears if he has to play defense, and he really cant get anything going unless he has meter, and im still mad about wnf using my slick steve color >(
Steve is a lot like cody. Good damage, good Frame traps, but has the worst defense known to man.
Use another character and tag / switch cancel Steve in. Seriously, this seems to be best use of Steve, as he does great damage, carries the opponent across the stage brilliantly and is great once in to keep the pressure on. However, his defence sucks and gets owned by many other characters when playing the distance / poking game.
I’m not sure but I think F+mp, lp is negative on block, but for now I usually try to fish for a hit and then hit confirm into a chain (starting with cr.lp). It’s possible to get cr. hp on hit, as was said earlier, but it’s tough timing. I think best option is to plink cr.hp with mk to avoid getting accidental inputs, but I’m still working on it.
British edge is F+lp, mp, and as far as I can tell is super positive on block. Cr. mp after it is almost guaranteed counterhit if they push a button.
<3 <3
F.MP/HP , Lp is 0 on block I think.
Is anyone else playing Steve on pad? I’m using the Hori Commander 3 and after a day in the lab my hans are all kinds of pain lol. I’m pretty immune to this kind of thing normally, so maybe it’s just the pad, but getting some of the combos off with Steve can be kind of tricky on pad. That said, I’m glad I got him out of the way because everyone else’s combos are so easy in comparison. I’m loving Nina and it’s in large part because she was just throwing out easy damage all over the place.
Well played sir! I actually use the exact same team as you, so it was quite educational seeing how you dealt with specific match-ups. I actually run Steve first (as it has forced me to learn the character), but your matches showed me what I have been thinking for a long time, and that is that Steve is best when he gets tagged in. He just doesn’t have enough defensive juice (IMO) to run on point, and he needs someone to gain him meter so he can deal out his delicious damage. And as boring as he is, I think Ryu complements Steve really well as he makes up for many of his weaknesses.
I think your play was really solid, especially for what… day 2? I think you could improve linking after Ducking Body, Ducking Hook (though I think all Steve players will be in the same boat), as that is so important to deal big damage. I also think you could get better damage in the corner, although maybe you were trying some sort of combo that you didn’t execute properly?
Finally, when you tag Steve in, maybe use cr.MK xx Skyscraper rather than cr.HP? The HP does more damage, but it’s much easier to connect the cr.MK because of the range.
But overall, great display, and I reccomend everyone here to watch the matches you played tonight.
i’m playing on default xbox pad. left hand’s killing me. i’ve never really had that as a problem before. his inputs are kind of tricky, but it did alright. mess around with the quick combo function.
Dude! My left hand is exactly what’s hurting. I’ve been practicing those half-life combos using the ducks after Ex-Fang and man, they are just unforgiving. On the plus side, finally nailing someone for half of their life is really satisfying.
Things I noticed from the few steve matches I saw from WNF.
No one used his counter, no one used his peekaboo stance, and only saw one person attempt to use his command throw.
Peekaboo is invuln throws which gives steve something to beat gief and hugo.
Steve’s counter has a small window of time to counter an opponent’s attacks. I don’t see it as one of his useful tools.
His counter isnt very good.
His counter is the worst in the game.
Btw, regarding the other above comments, fwd. HP -> LP is, I believe, 0 frames on block and gives a nice frame advantage if you flicker cancel it.
F+MP/Hp is 0 on block
If you do the follow up (LP) its -2. Got the guide today
His counter is decent to stop pressure. I find myself using it against jump ins to make people realize I’m still paying attention to what they’re doing. Shitty thing about it though is that even though you countered they can still block after. But at least it gets people off of you.
his counter isn’t just bad, it’s ATROCIOUS and you’re just asking to be blown up even by using it. If somebody does something other than a big fat heavy attack or does a too early jump in, fine you got them, but if they do a late jump in and block, or just jump and go straight into lows, you just got blown up BAD. The move hardly even hits when you actually activate it. It’s like they are mocking Steve with that counter lol
The command grab is also terrible, as most people are able to recognize that Steve is ducking, and my best option is now to crouch block (or to reversal or something if available) because nothing that steve has will do anything to you while crouching. In fact, crouch block in general is just going to blow up Steve.
Peekaboo not being grabbable is great… if it were a faster activation. The stance takes TEN FRAMES to enter, so as much as the guide likes to brag about how he’s ungrabbable and that’s great, it really doesn’t matter much as you’re not gonna see a gief walking at you, see you go into the stance, and then try to grab you. I wish that the lp out of peekaboo had armor until it hit after a certain frame or something, then OS wouldn’t blow it up =(
I think steve isn’t really that good… He’s like dudley but w/o focus attack and w/o a mixup. =[
don’t know HOW people were possibly thinking steve would be a top tier LOL
His counter isn’t bad. I agree with SRK26. It’s good to stop people from going crazy on you. Its not necessarily great to use on jump ins. It has its uses im sure and eventually we will find the good uses for it once we understand match-ups a little more.
I don’t see steve being that good in the end either. He has good CH setups but so do most of the tekken cast. His lack of good defense options doesnt help either.
i see a lot of the “hopeful for the future” with steve - I certainly hope he’s better than I think! because I don’t think he’s that good - but he’s tight.
perhaps it’ll be useful against rollento rushdown or something
