The Stinging Hook: Steve Fox General Thread

^^ Not sure who he will work best with, so that’s definitely an interesting area of discussion. I think it’s already clear to see that Steve needs meter to get going, because most of his practical damage combos come from EX Sonic Fang. Therefore I guess having someone that is a good battery character helps him. However, you could change your gem selection to account for this, and I have been using 3 meter build / meter usage gems for that very reason.

His partner is Hwoarang and he is a good battery as he has lots of good combos and strings that build meter without using it. However, I do think Hwoarang has many of the weaknesses that Steve has in that he struggles under pressure. He does have EX Upkick, but I’m not totally sure how invincible that move is.

But I think overall a character who builds meter is a good partner for Steve. I also think high damage characters that are effective in the corner, like Hugo and Gief are good partners. Steve is so good at carrying the opponent once he gets in that taking your opponent to the corner is easy. So having someone that can exploit that sounds like a good strategy in theory at least.

I do use Ryu at the moment, but simply because I feel that if I am in trouble, Ryu can get me out as he is so versatile. There is some team synergy in that Steve can tag in Ryu for a free super from Gatling Gun, and Ryu can also do something like cr.HP xx HP SRK ->switch cancel, which brings in Steve and has the opponent in juggle state so you can get going with your Skyscraper combos to carry the opponent towards the wall. However, I am sure there will be way better combinations with him as the game evolves.

It’s probably been stated already, but you can link close st.:mp: , cr:mp: , cr:mk: xx into whatever.

Is anyone planning on using Steve and Dudley when Dudley comes out?
I wanted to use Dudley cause he is my main and now that he has a Tiger alternate i have to use him.

Yes

i found this relatively useful, you can punish shotos low forward into fireball on block with super

According to the Ryu preview of the SFxT Brady guide, Hadoken is -6 on block, so that makes Hellfire Rush at 6 frames startup or faster (I suspect faster as it’s really good, and Ryu’s Shinkuu is 5 frames startup).

That also seems to suggest that you can punish a blocked Hadoken with a crouching MK if you time it right too…

I played you on live man you did that to me! I was like AAAAAAAAAAAAA

Good shit you were the most solid Steve I’ve seen, if not the most solid player rocking a Tekken character.

that sort of data on fireballs on block is almost always based on point blank range. it is better off if the hadouken has to travel, each frame of travel=a frame better on block

I’ve got some of his combos down but I’m still confused on what to do in an actual match
Any tips on how to play him? I usually just do f.mp>lp to get in then I throw a couple lps for frame traps and some cr.mp into duck>lp over and over again until I get a hit with it then I do the ex sonic fang combos. I feel like hit confirming with lights in this game is terrible.

yo you a scrub as nigga money match me vs you 20 internets, fagbag

^ this

who you fight BUMs. FIGHT ME NIGGA FIGHT ME.

come on now, me and drekbkr trying to get that mike ross, jago stuff going, it was all #Staged

I play reactionary with him. Like I’ll pick up tendencies and then bait them. You pretty much have the gists, just use his sways, albatross spin, and counters. As for your predicament with hit confirming lights… Double tap your jabs!! It helps a lot. just drum your index and middle fingers over the jabs until you get two quick inputs.

are there videos of this steve you are all talking about or what hahaha balltapper

so we have something to watch

for the one day we have left

SO EXCITED

i thought we were all talking about our own steves DansGame

okay, i noticed that the 1 major problem with steve is that he is free to tick throws, since downback lk is the command for his foot stomp, and you cant buffer crouch tech with medium punch, unless i am somehow doing it wrong

command normals take priority over everything. So Steve Fox cannot crouch tech OS. Ever.

made a new vid, it is stuff you guys already know but it is just to showcase to others his updated bnbs and it also includes some Steve + Yoshi/Ogre team stuff as well that you might find interesting. I focused a little more on Yoshi/Ogre bnb as well so be warned it is not entirely a Steve vid. It might be helpful though if you want to pick them up as partners~

I find Steve/Ogre to be a great pair in any order. I am also learning Nina at the moment and figure they might make a good team as well.

Have any of you tried doing combos like what (sort of) starts at 29 seconds in this video?

It’s one of the first trailers and it’s what made me want to play Steve in the first place. I haven’t seen any combos that uses his bound attack either.
