The "Stickless Arcade Stick" Thread

No worries, it’s only been 4 days. I’ll catch up soon enough.

I’m certain you will, if you’ve gotten that much progress you’ll be able to clear them in no time.

Yup I’m loving these controllers to. 3 months under my belt. I hardly think about my buttons now. Its all intuitive. I’m glad I tried these out.

Anywhere in the US I can get one of these, or do I have to look up some place to cut one up for me?

http://thegamesurgeons.com/Madcatz%20TE%20Replacements%20Panels3.html you can order the metal panel and plexi from Blklightning21.

Thanks! Now I need to find out if they will do a custom button layout for me.

Just found this stickless thing and i think it’s awesome, but i have some questions:
The left, down and right buttons are 24mm or 30mm buttons? Because i can see the jump button is bigger, it’s definitely 30mm.
How fast or slow people get used to these kind of sticks?Days, weeks or months?
Can someone give me a template with the button positions like the ones on slagcoin? (e.g. Link)
Thanks guys

K, I’m defiantly gonna go with a stickless controller but now I gotta decide which path to take.
I have ~$250 to spend and want to get the most bang for my buck while not having to wait 1+ month
It’ll also need to be dual modded cause I don’t plan on using anything else and don’t want to be limited to one console.

Do I buy a cheap 360 R1 TE, a new plate from gamesurgeons and dual mod it with a kitty/paewang? just get a hitbox and dual mod that?

Any suggestions/input would be greatly appreciated!

Hitboxes are currently backordered but Shawn says that should have that remedied within a week. It’s also harder to mod a ps3-360 than it is to go 360-ps3. In the long run it would be cheaper to get a Hitbox and dual mod it yourself. Easiest route would be a ChimpSMD from Toodles and soldering it yourself. But if you were planning to ship it off to someone to have it dual modded that would cost more than getting a TE, a replacement panel and plexi, and a kitty and doing it all yourself. Either way you will have to wait a week or two to get all the parts in to do the mods.

Personally I ordered a custom case from Nitewalker and because it’s made out of quality wood it’s much more solid than say a hitbox or a TE which has a metal panel. The whole thing just feels so much higher quality, it’s almost hard to describe. But some people prefer the metal panels. So it’s more of what exactly you want adn what you prefer.

I think thats what I’ll go with. Thanks

Don’t forget to pick up one of these to go with it SOCD Cleaner Kit Now Available

I thought they fixed that issue so its not needed anymore. from their site FAQ:

When you dual mod a Hit Box, you won’t have SOCD cleaning on the 360. We only put the SOCD cleaning on our PS3 board, it doesn’t carry over.

I see. Thank you both for clearing it up!

What do you think about the 24mm buttons instead of the 30mm’s?
Do they really fit your hand better?

I say build your own. It’s fun.

still haven’t finished my arcade case so decided to try it out with whatever i could find

Any word on future availability of the Hitbox? The purchase page has been blank for a couple weeks :frowning:

I had to look at various FG forums to find a used one. I didn’t want to chance it on waiting. I say build your own before taking a plunge to see if your going to like the layout. Hitbox honestly takes some time getting use to. The up bottom may feel counter intuitive at first but it will start feeling natural after some practice. I use my right thumb for jump. There is no way my simple mind can process using my left hand strictly for directional inputs. LOL! my brother tried it and his having a hard time with the layout(his a stick player).
