where/how do you all find images big enough to get such good quality images for the larger surfaced sticks? any tactics to scaling images? (i’m using GIMP).

Yo kiddos. I’m needing help. I’m nabbing an SE for the Wife® for xmas, gonna sanwa that shit, but i don’t have time to make the skin for it, which i’d love to have ready for xmas day.
I’m looking for a MvC2 or 3 Femme Fatale styled art, purple and black in theme (for the buttons sake… purple w/ black rims for the main 4… black w/ purple for assists, and straight black for the unused 2… keeping them for other games, so i don’t wanna remove em, and a purple bubble top for the stick).
Help me SRK. You’re my only hope.

I have 3 requests, in order of preference. Let me know if interested in taking the order:
1> TE-R2 - Girls from fighters theme, 4 from DOA: Hitomi, Kasumi, ayane, christie-then the girls from tekken, SF, and MK.
2> TE-R2 - Killer Instinct theme (yea, my fav fighter of all time)
3> TEK sega2 layout - manga style scantily dressed zombie hunter chick, with open areas for the translucent case.
Depends on the image… lol.
A lot of times, I’ll google image search the highest res pic I can. But, since a lot of requests are accompanied by a medium size image, I gotta resort to upscaling.
Upscaling is general shitty, but there are ways to make it less shitty and/or hide the pixelation:
-Gaussian Blur. If you duplicate the layer, and Gblur the top layer until it’s slightly blurry, then set the blend mode to Overlay/Soft Light/Multiply, it will significantly make the image look clean. This often times leads to dark or saturated images, so I mess about with the hue/saturation sliders on the layers til I’m satisfied. Nonetheless, the easiest and fastest gimmick.
-Manually Clean. The Gblur usually does the trick, but if it’s a simple cel-shaded pic, you can just as easily paint the base color over the messy areas. I recreate a lot of tiny logos with this method. As long as you have guide lines of some sort, you can just lay out a high res clean shape or paint over the old blurry one.
-Blend. Alot of photoshop beginners cut an image out and lay it on a background. It’ll probably already look unclean and clashing, but any messy upscaling will stick out even more. You need to blend all the layers so it looks like one single piece of art. On the Rog stick I last posted, that was three entirely different and upscaled images. I had to clean the rog pic up some(unposted, in final), but you don’t look at that stick and think “jeez, looks like a rog cut out and stuck on some tourist photo of las vegas” (that’s exactly what it is). I jacked some crappy tourist photo, and reblended it at least half a dozen times, added rog, reblended that pic a couple times til the colors match better, then dropped a red texture on top to bring it all together.
Other ways to blend images is to lay a random layer of gradient styles on top. You could use masks and vectors to solidify an image. Either way, you want to fool the viewer into not looking at upscaled images, but one big union of images. Just cause you amplify a guitar doesn’t mean you can ignore playing in a harmony or “key” with the rest of the band. And… that’s kind of the point I’m getting at. oO
Besides, when it’s printed, it probably will be even less noticeable, lol.
Not sure if I’m doing this right but this seems the right place to ask. Will this image be large enough to look good in print? If not I’d like to request someone pretty much do what I’ve done here, but the right way? Also any artistic criticism about how the layout could be better would be very welcome. I guess I wanted to request stick art, but do as much of the work as I could first. Thanks in advanced guys 
TE template width is over 4000px… yours is 800px. So, it’s about 5 times too small. Just grab a TE template, adjust its size, and do some cleaning if need be. Other than that, it looks great, good job.

If you upscaled it just a bit more and put it on the template I use, it looks like this (small example shown). The holes and everything do line up.

Need a bit more info to finish. You weren’t too clear on exactly who, so I did all the current mvc3 females (yes, the damn goddess wolf is female, I wiki’d that shiat). I was being lazy at first (ie: not cutting out), so I got two crappy examples to go with the main one.

Also I’d like to put the black spider symbol in side clear red buttons, and the red symbol (on his back) in clear blue buttons. Do the clear buttons open or something to stick art inside them? I’ve seen some sticks with the art showing through the buttons and always wondered how it was done.
There ya go. My bezel and holes are clickable to turn off and on, so yours will remain. I’m not sure about making clear buttons, maybe somebody else will come along and answer your question = )
I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask, but what resolution pixels by pixels would artwork with the template would it look good and clear in reality for a SF4 TE stick.
Like if the template looks really good at 800x400 (random values for an example), it will look good when finished. Or how big should renders be to get a good quality image when scaling it for the template?
My template size is 4042x2542. So… a couple thousand is ideal. A 800px+ wallpaper probably won’t look too bad, but usually better to get as high a res as possible.

I did mess around with the idea of recreating the KI1 control panel. It’s a pain, so I updated it with gold or blue color scheme that can be turned off and on. Not exactly what you asked for, but if you like it, it’s there for you to use too.

I had an idea for a fightstick design, and I was wondering if anyone could help me with it? Basically I was looking for a pic with all my fave fighting game characters (Ragna, Asuka Kazama, Pai, Sol Badguy, Sakura, Kyo Kusanagi and Elena) with a stylish purple and black theme using the quote “These are a few of my favorite things”. I just got the MvC2 TE fightstick, and I’m not sure how I’m supposed to request art here…Does anyone think they could do that though? I hope I’m requesting this correctly!
