I don’t think releasing characters the way capcom is doing it is wrong, I think everything else about how they are handling it is though.
I think the skullgirls team handled it perfectly. Kept us all waiting for months but we didn’t feel cheated.
Why? Because there was constant updates. We got to see new animations that weren’t even done constantly, we got shown old animations that were now colorized.
We got to play the under developed characters in the beta, we got new moves every other week or so, sometimes a new move felt like damn near a new character.
But nope, with capcom no teaser trailer, no thoughts on how this or that move might apply, no nothing at all.
It’s fucking HORRID to market this way, there is no hype at all… we can’t talk about any new shit because we don’t even know what the new shit might be.
Is it Taylor? Is he a hybrid grappler? A zoner? Something completely new like a trapper? Is it some other totally different character? We can’t get excited about jack shit because this stupid ass fucking company won’t tell us anything. Won’t even give us a teaser when we know they’ve probably had all the character assets done for at least a month and are probably in the balancing stage, if not fully complete.
Like how you can make a game where there are going to be characters being developed in the middle of the games span and not keep the community up to date with progress and screen shots and videos is fucking beyond me… but this is a multi million dollar company… fucking lab zero has kicked this gams ass in a shoestring and noodles budget as far as accessibility is concerned and NO ONE ever complained about the better access.
I think the assets are finished for a year now. Ono mentioned that season 3 would depend on season 1 success because they would start working on it this year, just like they were working on season 2 last year. I think Kolin’s updated model was added to the files in September last year too.
a simple fix is more pushback on blocked moves. it doesn’t have to be much either, just a tad bit more so you’re not constantly blocking and then in a dash-in/jump-in mixup.
I think the defensive options are fine for this game. Just a year ago the defensive options were too strong so we can’t go back and say the defensive options are too little now. That means Capcom did their job enough if opinions are opposite one way and then suddenly the other. That means people aren’t understanding the meta well enough when they shift opinions so hard.
Maybe tone down the reward on certain common CC’s and tone down the worst V Trigger offenders. Other than that the game works pretty well for itself IMO. Pressure is strong without having set play that shuts down your reversal and backdash attempts.
In general at top level play rounds and matches last way too long on average to need to buff the defensive options. Especially in a game where there aren’t a lot of tight block strings and the continued pressure is usually meter reliant. The offense isn’t strong enough where you need MORE defensive options. I guarantee the complaints come the other way about the game being too defensive as soon as that happens.
It’s just lag. I’m amazed for instance that Giefs charge punch doesn’t get jumped on. I can watch an animation fire up - hold up and still get tagged. Same with overheads.
Unfortunately there’s not much you can do for lag adjustment wise other than just not dealing with the move and jumping/dashing away. Ideally you’d want to punish something like Mikas drop kick but the lag means you’re probably better off just bailing out.
Being caught in proximity block though is also quite stupid. Why can’t I move my character when you decide to do something… ? That move would be getting whiff punished all day if you could just tweak your spacing.
It’s really cool that they made a character purposely around playing with proximity block. It was like something you could do with other characters in other SF games, but it’s like an intended, legit part of Laura’s gameplan and mainly why her command grabs don’t have much actual range.
You know you’re gona have a shit night on 5 when you go to watch your replays or navigate the menu’s and it brings up that “connecting” screen. That’s when you have to accept the CFN has just banished you off radar and pretend to the mrs you’d rather spend it with her watching a movie…
I also know if it puts me in a different place in Australia on the map - I’m fucked. Today I’m up in Darwin apparently where they don’t even have internet. Last week I was in Sydney which is a 5 hour flight.
