The SSJ5 General Thread: E3 happening but Ono doesn't Spirit Bomb

People going after Bison’s ex specials are evil motherfuckers, and I am watching you. You know who you are.

Sure you weren’t reading this thread instead?
Funny thing is that people complained about communication too, as if devs should tell you every day what they are doing and if they are doing it in time.

Also, meter isn’t free in this game. If you save up you can get a super a round. That’s a super that is needed to do your biggest damage combos or chip out. Using ex moves over super, on block, is no laughing matter. Very few ex moves are worth using just for block. At best, moves like uriens ex tackle qualify as “free guesses” no urien I know of is using the move with the intention of being blocked… so they can get in, save for maybe against sim or some other super zoner. It just isn’t worth the meter to cross the screen that fast for a 0 situation that is outside of point blank most of the time, as compared to guaranteed damage and followups when done in a combo.

Ex tackle>v trigger is a different story but even still you are spending resources.

Most of the other things are just frame trap plus on block moves that have some slight forward moving properties, but they all have the guilty gear/fighting game problem of being generally slow and allowing gaps in offense. Akumas fhp and bisons cr.hp are prime examples. Slow moves that are plus on block. They can be interrupted easily when abused obviously.

35f isn’t a long startup? Really? If you actually practice against the move it greatly expands what you can challenge with. For example, K-Brad was challenging with Cammy’s s.HK (9f startup) and was like 80% in converting.

I think it’s reasonable to complain about certain safe advancing moves like EX tackle or EX dash punch. I’m not a fan of those moves either. but at the point where you think something like FANG’s s.HK doesn’t belong in SF I think you have far too strict rules about what sort of moves belong in an SF game.

i’ll play some SFV. i still am too much of a beginner in Xrd but i suck at both games.

ima get on anyways. it’s 8 PST for me right now.

Meter in this game is about as easy to get as it’s ever been in a SF game.

Not to mention many of the better characters in S2 get as much or more damage from their V-Trigger than their Super so saving up for super isn’t that important and the characters who it is important on don’t usually need to burn it on EX moves.

@LoyalSol are you done with your doctorate or did your brain shit on itself so much you need a break?

Can’t figure out why you’re posting so much.

Yes I’ve been done for several months now. I’m sitting here playing Persona 5.

If you didn’t have to worry about the non-charged version you might have a point.

It’s not the worst offender, but I’m pointing out that there is a surplus of these moves. If anyone says there’s not that many of these kinds of moves in SF5 they need to take a second look.

And no I’ve never said you can’t ever put these things in a game. The problem is that these things are in the game without the defensive mechanics that usually make them reasonable to deal with in other games.

There’s just too much high reward/low risk shit in this game for defense to be this bad. The mechanics do not mesh at all.

Even with slow start-up, the idea that Mika could also just do a normal St.Roundhouse is decent enough to make countering the option sometimes work or sometimes not work. It’s good in that sense. Not safe, but still an option (adding in with her other plans in neutral).

Saving to super is beneficial for most characters with not that many exceptions.

Imho gief/rashid/Laura are 3 of the characters with the least use for super. Everyone else gets big easy damage combos from their super.

Even rog can benefit greatly from saving to super rather than using it on random non armored ex dash punches to get +1.

I’m a firm believer that ex meter in this game by and large, save for a very few exceptions, is better on hit, not on block… which is another way of saying that if you are getting them blocked a lot, and your opponent is hitting his you are on the fast track to losing.

Most of the players and characters winning tournaments are using ex meter in combos, not so much at neutral.

It’s just a more solid strategy. Take the guaranteed damage, or use a meter for non guaranteed damage. It also means you have to open the opponent fewer times overall if you save to super, that means fewer times subjecting yourself to wake up jabs and reversals while trying to exploit 3 wakeup timing oki.

If there wasn’t over 20f difference in startup you might have had a point. If the uncharged s.HK wasn’t also unsafe on block you might have had a point. Charge vs. uncharged s.HK are effectively different moves.

He’s still posting…

Meaties are way too awkward in this game

If SFV was delayed more we would have a point.

Oh wait.

Wow, I’ve been having server issues all day today.
I’ve had several games disconnect before I make it to the VS screen.
Booted from the server.
Slow loading stats.

Wew, I feel it… so this is the power of SFV.

If SFV was delayed more and/or had launched in a better state we probably wouldn’t be on the fifth version of this thread. Sixth?

I’d put sim up there too. EX flame is his only way to confirm into a knockdown off of lights barring a counter-hit, and EX fireball has tons of different applications (approach tool, zoning tool, setup enabler, can even be used on defense for the pushback and frame advantage).

and now that he can reset his air options with EX gale there are just too many appealing uses of meter to limit yourself to super

Yeah I’d say what made it tougher to deal with was having to guess between uncharged, charged and plus 1 c.HP. Which plus 1 c.HP punished you for sitting too long waiting for the charged HK. Uncharged s.HK is minus 4 so it’s worth waiting early for that and block punishing. That’s definitely not a “mix up” she can rely on. If she does charge it up and you don’t react in time you always have block then V Reversal.

gg’s FortyEighter48. sorry i kinda suck. anybody else from srk wanna play?
