Great, I will be first in line to buy this one on January 26th! I’m glad I’ll still be here when it comes out.
Today was Beat Tribe’s qualifier for the 16-man Kanto region (Tokyo and surrounding areas) championships to be held at the beginning of December. Best two at this tournament qualified for the invitation-only final.
61 players
Character Results:
1st) Amakusa
2nd) Yumeji
3rd) Gaira
4th) Gaira
Two Gaira players made it to top 4, but neither of them managed to pull out the final win to qualify. They both used Zero groove and played very nice Gaira’s–and yes, roll/command grab is really good. I lost to the Amakusa player in Top 8, he had some excellent mix-ups and was very good at keeping a safe distance.
I was surprised to see Tokido at this tournament, using Shizumaru! He was pretty solid but lost in the second round. When I asked him, he said he didn’t really play that much. Maybe he’s interested since it was announced as a Tougeki game now?
Most popular characters were Iroha, Gaira, Sogetsu and Yumeji. Surprisingly unused characters were Ochamaro, Hanzo, and Earthquake, who I think are all excellent characters as well. Anyway, there is still a lot of variety in characters as well as grooves. The only groove that doesn’t really get used is the “Anger” groove (where A+B executes a giant autoguard attack). All of the other grooves seem to have legitimate uses, although with many characters one groove is better suited than another.
Best 8 got recorded, so I think they might put some of the matches from each respective qualifier on a DVD once the whole tournament is over with. I’ll let everyone know what I find out.
This game is more balanced than two, imo, but after some serious gameplay I think this game has potential to be one of the greatest Samshos. Sam 2 just has a solid seat on the throne due to nostalgia since there have been very bad samshos since it’s inception. Too bad America isn’t to warm to Samsho in general though.
Excellent thanks UnCauzi, would anyone happen to have a list of the frame data for this game yet? Also what about the best grooves for all the characters, I know there has been many things already posted for the top tier but what about the others? Or don’t tell me…there are people still holding onto their secrets…if so I understand…
i like it better than 2 coz it has more characters and i prefer the more modern fighting engine.
balance is always a worry till its been out a year or so but this will prolly end up being my favourite “all round” sam sho with the range of characters, grooves, bgs, etc.
Thats what I was hoping…I was hoping they would go out with a bang…and apparently they are doing just that…and with NGBC and XI being good looks like SNK is doing good…
Official site has a fucking trailer for the PS2 version. You see purple (the alternate) Nakoruru, Paku Paku, Poppy and even fucking Kuroko! WITH NEW MOVES NOT IN SS2!!!
The extra characters are (besides purple Nakoruru, which is in the arcade version) Kuroko, Poppy, Paku Paku, Shikuru, Mamahaha, Champuru, Gaira with hair, Rasetsu Galford and four unkown ones (the rumors are talking about Rimururu with her other outfit, Wan-Fu with the stone pillar, Boss Gaoh).
The three new grooves are a custom one (make your own groove), one that fills up on offense and defense and one with no block.
Well I’m still reserved in my judgement until further notice. As of right now though I’d easily put this puppy over SS1,3 and 4. It’s equal with the 5’s in my book. This will probably change though. I’m probably biased towards 5 since that one brought most of my old samsho crew out of the woodwork making for the some really good times.
The home release will probably be the true test, since only one of us has the machine here and due to life we don’t get to play it like we did the others.
Yeah but where am I supposed to get my samsho info from fierce slash?
I cant let a argument between me and you stop that, so of course I retract my statement no need to rub it in man, I’m over it, are you?
I wasn’t startin nothin. Hell, you didn’t have to do all that shit from before anyway. I’m honestly confused why 9 days later you make a 180. But in the end it doesn’t matter. Just remember this is SRK. Let your guard down, it’s not like I’m camping in a tree across from your house with a rifle or something.
And that letter from admin thing was completely worthless, unless you thought I was gonna ban you for coming back or something…=/
Just curious everyone…how safe is Mina’s dive kick this time around? I havent been able to test this also…does Concentration mode have invincibility frames on startup ala V-Ism? I’ve seen it be used as an anti throw thing…opponent tries to throw… other guy activates Concentration…which causes the person to whiff…so makes me wonder…
