Hey thanks for the link…Makes more sense…
went to pick up there will be blood on dvd today and the dvd’s are in such horrible shape
why did they use a cardboard sleeve instead of a regular dvd case for both 1 disk and 2 disk edition
i picked up the 2 disk, but it doesn’t seem like it has much more to justify $8 extra
the cover is already falling apart and all i did was open it up
I rented TWBB… if I like it I’ll wait for the Blu-ray to drop. Bought Walk Hard on BR, too. Heard good things… It has two discs, one has the theatrical cut, the other has the “Way too long, self indulgent director’s cut” that is almost a half hour longer. Can’t wait to check both movies out.
i watched walk hard on blu ray last night (fye got me my copy one day early)
the PQ isn’t that great, but the movie was pretty good
i figure i’ll just rebuy TWBB when it comes to blu ray if ever
wow, that was WAAAAY better.
Over the weekend, I finally watched No Country for Old Men for the first time (bought it for Blu-Ray). Since then, I’ve watched it three more times.
IMO, best movie since 2000 and possibly one of my all-time favorites. Maybe top five. A+++
meh there was nothing “legend” about it…
im outi

if you want to waste a day rent these disaster movies
Category 6
Category 7 (blu ray)
10.5
10.5 Apocalypse (blu ray)
I ended up buying all 4 from amazon and wasted 12 hours on a movie that has the most ridiculous scenarios and horrible CGI. I also like how they reuse scenes from the previous movies in the new one. The mall in Category 6 suddenly becomes the Mall of America in Category7 and they reuse the nuclear power plant scenes and a couple others. I think the Category series is much better than 10.5 if you have to choose one.
Oh yea and the world is in impending doom with these tornadoes, but Gina Gershon, the head of FEMA, has time to get coffee and go for walks, attend formal parties, and spend some time with her son talking about things. Bitch only works 9-5, no matter whats going on
I watched TMNT this weekend, thought it was pretty good. Plot was nonsensical but the characterization was spot-on for the most part, even if mike and don got the short end in screen time.
I also watched Hard Candy, thought it was really good. I know some people hate the movie…the only thing I didn’t like was Ellen Page’s haircut that made her look like a little boy.
her insanely toned abs kinda shocked me for some reason…i think the fact that i don’t find her all that attractive precludes any desire to see her look “more girly”…
anyone see opera by dario argento?
the music ruined it so bad
chick got that needles in her eyelids, guy about to die, then this rock music starts blasting (with vocals too!) and ruins everything. every kill in that movie has the same thing
bloodfeast has horrible music too and ruined the movie
this movie really drove home how bad music can really ruin a movie to me
Yea AL, Ellen Page’s abs were crazy in that movie.
I watched her latest one, Smart People, on Friday. It was pretty good. Thomas Haden Church was great as usual
Some thoughts on recently watched movies:
-
I watched TWBB on last Friday. It definitely deserved its award for Best Cinematography and should have won for Best Original Score. Daniel Day-Lewis was hit or miss though. Some of his line deliveries were great while others were way too hammy. I give the film an 8.5/10. I still think that Viggo should have won for Eastern Promises.

I recently watched the entire Star Wars series on Spike for the thousandth time (Only the second time for watching the prequels though). Here are my thoughts:
Episode 1: Aniken was a whiny fucktard. The only scene were he even resembled Darth Vader (he beats the shit out of little Greedo) was removed from the final cut of the film. I also did not like his backstory. Why not have his mom be a slave owned by Jabba the Hutt and have Liam Neeson as his dad. Liam Neeson should have gone to Tatooine to investigate rumors that he had a son and then have to deal with Jabba. Darth Maul was a great character that needed more screentime and should not have been killed until the end of episode II. The score was great though. Also WTF is with Obi Wan having a rattail? The Trade Federation shit sucked (Why not just introduce Christopher Lee right away?) and they should have already been in the process of replacing the battle droids with armies of virtually infinite clones. I give episode 1 a 2.5/10. one point for the score, one for Darth Maul, and half a point for casting Liam Neeson and Samuel L Jackson even though they sucked due to the horrible script.
Episode 2: This was total suckitude. Why did only one side have clones? They were called the Clone Wars. It should have both sides have infinite armies of easily replaceable Mandalorian clones bringing the universe to the edge of ruin. Jango Fett should have been Mandalore and Boba should not have been a clone. Palpatine should have been hinted at as being Christopher Lee’s apprentice and Aniken should have been played by some ultra bad ass like Clancey “Kurgan” Browne. Imagine him slaughtering hundreds of clones as if it where dynasty warriors or something. A non-cyborg General Greivous should have been introduced and played by Gary Oldman. Anyway the trainspotting guy became half decent as obi wan, Natalie Portman looked hot in the white body suit, and the Yoda-Christopher Lee fight was awesome, and Christopher Lee was excellent, but otherwise the movie sucked. 3.5/10. 2 points for Christopher Lee, 1/2 point for the yoda fight, 1/2 point for the white bodysuit, and 1/2 point for Aniken slaughtering a tribe of Sand People.
Episode 4: The only watchable one of the trilogy. They should have shown Greivous becoming Proto-Vader, Aniken should have killed his wife, Christopher Lee should not have died in the first 5 minutes and should have become emperor first before Palpatine, Natalie Portman sucked, more Wookiees needed, Grevious should have headed a Mandalorian death squad hunting jedi, and Grand Moff Tarkin should have been introduced. Hayden Christiansen definitly improved though. He went from being annoying and whiny to more wooden than Keanu Reeves playing a tree in a school play. Still he came off as excellent compared to Natalie Portman. I give this film 5/10 for actually being mostly watchable.
Star Wars (episode 4): almost Perfect. 10/10.
The Empire Strikes Back (episode 5): 11/10. Could Star Wars get better? Yes.
Return of the Jedi (episode 6): Lucas shot himself in the foot by insisting the production be non-union. Ewoks should have been Wookiees, ewoks should have been mostly slaughtered and only blow up the shield generator through teh zerg rush, and the Dagobah scenes sucked (We already know Vader is Lukes father. He should just go back to Dagobah, find Yoda dead, Yoda’s ghost tells him Leia is his sister, and that he must confront Vader and the Emperor. There was no need for Obi Wan’s ghost to appear and explain the father thing. Vader being Luke’s father was already confirmed in ESB when he tells him to search his feelings. Jedi had the best space battle out of all the Star Wars flicks though, the Jabba scenes were cool except for Boba Fett not putting up a fight, and the lightsabre battle was great. 8/10.
- I watched the Sonny Chiba flick where he is Jubei Yagyu and slaughters thousands of zombie samurai and the one where he is the japanese soldier who goes back in time. Both are fun watches.
Saw Street Kings this weekend. Wasn’t that bad and it had a sort of Training Day vibe. The ending surprised me a little.
I’ve been noticing for the advertisements for Forbidden Kingdom they’re showing more of Jet Li and Jackie Chan than the white kid. Maybe its for the best.
anyone seen the trailer for “tokyo gore police”?
speaking of japanese splatterfests, any word on “machine girl” being available here in the states?
I dont remember the music in Opera being any different than Argento’s other Goblin-esque scores. Havent watched the movie in a long time though, sold it off a while ago. Makes me want to go watch Demons though
ps happy birthday me…
“A true sleeper, ‘Water Horse’ may just be 2007’s most unjustly overlooked film.”
"
‘The Water Horse’ is one of 2007’s most underrated gems. It’s a cute family film that’s entertaining and uplifting, if perhaps a bit too soft for some, but I totally got suckered in. This Blu-ray has quite nice video, good, but less impressive audio, and supplements that could have used some work. ‘The Water Horse’ is definitely a sleeper that I’m happy to recommend. "
saw the darjeeling ltd the other night. i really enjoyed it. i’m a fan of wes andersons work though. while it wasn’t near the quality of tennenbaums, i liked it much better than life aquatic.
who here has seen Momento
one of the most unique and interesting movies ive ever seen. i think its mandatory to watch this movie 2 times. its so fun
Three times, the third being the hidden feature on the DVD that plays the movie chronologically.
