I just watched 2001: A Space Odyssey for the first time. Wow. Pretty unique movie. Definately one of the more artistic movies I’ve ever watched. I enjoyed it.
On a side note, I love discoering little things in movies I should have seen ages ago, that suddenly cause other things I’ve seen to make more sense. Like the “giant space baby” in an episode of Sea Lab 2021, or the intro to that episode of the Simpsons where Homer is an ape among other apes and he’s sleeping against a monolith. No more losing sleep over those two things!
its pretty funny cause the legend status made more sense in the theatrical ending
but the original ending which is better, not so much
legend spoiler
Spoiler
because he cured the virus, so he is the legend who cured it, at least thats what i think. in the other ending i mean it doesn’t really hint on that he gets to vermont and ends up curing the disease like in the theatrical version
btw i think the omega man with heston is much better than this movie
I watched No Country For Old Men a few weeks ago and it was good but not like Best Picture material (considering some of the crap (Crash, Titanic) they have given the trophy to though… maybe.). The whole thing is basically a glorified chase movie that uses the old theme of rednecks/other ignorant people stealing money from the mob/other people you should not be stealing money from and dying. The whole philosophizing about fate shit and the Tommy Lee Jones subplot with the paralyzed ex-cop were uncalled for. It also would have been stronger to have ended the movie with JAvier Bardem walking away from the car crash instead of Tommy Lee Jones eating breakfast.
The Mist sucked. The acting was terrible and the special effects were shitty CGI. If I was in that situation in the supermarket I would be like to the crazy lady once she started freaking out about hell and shit “Are you threatening me? Are you? I am going to have to ask you to leave the store. Someone escort her outside, by force if necessary.”
oh and N OCOUNTRY WOULDA BAEEN SO MUCH COOLER IF THERE WAS A HUGE SHOOTOUT WITH GUNS AND MATRIX STYLE AND THE GUY GETS THE MONEY AND THE GIRL AND IT ENDS HAPPY ANSD JUST DOESNT TRY TO MAKE AP OINT ABOUT SOCIETY AND LIFE I MEAN IM SEEING A MOVIE WHY DO I NEED TO THINK ABOUT THINGS TOO IF I DID ID JUST READ THE BOOK LOL
yea the blade runner thing is a rip off, inside the case there’s nothing useful
i’ll take some pics of it later
there’s a funny interview on it where RR finished his movie way under budget and QT spent his half + RR left over and still went way over budget
from watching the movies you’d think planet terror cost a lot more than death proof, but i guess when you do everything [cinematography, direct, put family in the movie, music, special effects, etc.] yourself you can save some money
sig - so one of the grindhouse discs has the american theatrical cut with all of the trailers and the shortened versions of the films?
Movies I watched this weekend -
Bride of Re-Animator: really crappy dvd, full frame, bad sound, very grainy. I enjoy most of Brian Yuzna’s stuff but this one really pales in comparison to the original classic. You can tell it is a direct precursor to RoTLD 3 though
Reform School Girls: I’ve been trying to complete my Sybil Danning and Tom DeSimone oeuvres and this one took care of both. Classic stuff, not quite enough boobage but a great finale.
Alice, Sweet Alice - this movie is hilariously over-acted. Strangely attracted to the bad little girl. A few good deaths
Night of the Creeps - not as good as I remembered. some fun 80s makeup efx though
Fuck I was reading up on the Grindhouse boxset and I’m tempted to pick it up, I’ll just have to buy an upscaling dvd player since my upscaling BD drive isn’t region free lol.
oh yeah Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night 2 finally comes to dvd on tuesday. part 3 and 4 have been out on a crappy artisan double feature dvd with full frame transfers and part 3 being the tv edit so hopefully they will re-release those. the sequels are actually pretty strong.
