Just watched Beowulf on HD-DVD (yeah, that’s right). It was pretty good, I didn’t realize how animated it was going to be. For some reason (probably cause of what I had heard of Angelina Jolie’s role), I thought it would be mostly live action with a lot of cg touch up. From the beginning, it looked like a slightly more realistic Shrek, but the quality of the animation got better, and there were some parts that looked straight up real. Anyways, I liked it. I’m sure it would’ve been awesome if I caught it when it was in IMAX 3D.
The funny part is when I caught the end credits and saw that Crispin Glover was in it. Had no idea that he played that part. It was genius to cast him in that role, in my opinion. What’s even better is that one of the extras on the HD-DVD is like the extra on 300, where you can see what it looked like before all the CG. So you get to see Anthony Hopkins and everyone acting on motion capture sets with a bunch of motion capture dots on their faces. And you get to see Crispin Glover go to town on some stuffed dummies. No Angelina though, for some reason.
^hmm I think ima have to buy the Beowulf dvd some time soon
…but today Enchanted DVD came out:lovin:so tommorrow=payday and that = purchased. That movie was awesome, Amy Adams is so pretty and Patrick Dempsey and James Marsden are so hot:lovin::lovin: as for movies coming out in theaters
my money is going to see 21, and I doubt I’ll be seeing any movies until May when Speed Racer comes out.
doomsday was alright. had some cool parts but over all was pretty cheesy. it was like, futuristic -> lost boys in Hook -> lord of the rings -> ???. had some ok action scenes though. the Sol character made the movie for me.
so ummm has anyone seen that new al pacino movie 88 mins??? i thought it looked interesting but probably either a hit or a miss and no inbetween…just wondering…
not out yet, comes out april 1st. it’s a disney release though so i bet the quality will be awesome, disney is probably the best studio for releasing on blu ray
i’m going to pick it up, but i think i’m going to wait until deepdiscounts 20% off sale, it should be coming soon
thats when i’ve been picking up a lot of catalog titles on blu ray/hd dvd

hitman was pretty blah, but looked really good in 1080p except for some night scenes. i thought the alternate ending was better, but for some reason they went for the happy ending
Word. I liked HBK (though the farrely brothers gross out tactics were too much at the end. Not like it was too much for me, but like they were trying too hard), but I thought it wasn’t anything special, though it did have many funny parts.
Dan In Real Life was really good, but what did you think about the love interest? Was I being too harsh earlier?
What are the scariest movies you’ve seen? Scary, not necessarily gory. To me, it was definitely Ringu, followed by the 2003 remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Ringu had a great plot, or starting point, and followed through with the same high quality throughout. Same with Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It had a stronger impact for being based on a true story, and the plot of an isolated town inhabited by self-righteous folks with such twisted minds, and the psychopathic Leatherface having a dog-like relationship to the family, along with the affection you give to dogs and the sub-human treatment you naturally give them, made up for a disturbing life on the countryside story.
So I’m looking for recommendations on a truly scary movie.
I saw a bit of The Hills Have Eyes, and it was kind of good, but fell short, and it seemed like a rip-off of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I’ve seen the remake of The Grudge and thought it was alright. The Eye was interesting but not scary enough. There just never seemed to be any real threats going on. Other horror movies I’ve seen include Friday The 13th, Hellraiser, Chucky and those decades-old movies, but they’re hardly scary for us adults.
I’m a fan of ghost stories, though I can’t think of anything in particular that I really appreciated. Recommend something.
Just watched “Finishing the Game”. Its a parody movie (shot in faux documentary style) that was based around Bruce Lee’s death and how the studio tried to finish his last film, “Game of Death”, after only recording 12 minutes of footage. They try to find a replacement for Bruce and have open auditions, and you see all these weird Asian actors auditioning for the part.
It started off strong, and has a few really funny parts, but its a mediocre film. Its weird, this is by the guy that made, “Better Luck Tomorrow”, and you don’t expect this type of film to be his follow up. I guess he was going for satire.
Story sounds interesting. Something like The Dark Side Of The Moon, which was a great science-fiction horror.
Hehe. I found it scary when I saw it way back then. I remembered the interesting settings and came across some tunes from the movie I thought were great, so I downloaded it some time ago and got really disappointed. No worse than the average horror movie, though… I forget if we actually did say Candyman 5 times before a mirror… I hope so :nunchuck:
