Yeah Insider is tops in his filmography, and even then that movie had problems. Maybe I give him a pass because I like his urban/criminal themes (crime dramas are my #1 favorite genre). And technically I like what he does with digital cameras and his fixation with firearms. Miami Vice was a turd story/acting wise, but every scene in that movie was incredibly visceral. The last time a violent scene made me cringe like it did in several parts of MV was Irreversible, which is quite an accomplishment.
Yeahā¦I think the only thing that made me cringe like Irreversible was Last House (og of course).
This brings me to another pointā¦I hate that I have to put (og) next to half the movies I talk about anymoreā¦
Gran Torino was great, couldāve gone with a few more scenes but overall the character development was grand.
You can watch this and tell me you arenāt a fan?

and Miami Vice is hugely underrated and misunderstood.
I have never seen Collateralā¦like Nic Cage, I tend to avoid anything with Tom Cruise in itā¦
The only thing I dislike about the Insider is that Croweās character makes a much more sympathetic protagonist than Pacinoās, but Pacino is left to go it alone in the third act. Itās still a good film, because Bergman is fighting a worthwhile and righteous fight, but Wigand is the pawn in the middle. I often find the pawns much more interesting than the righteous. They tend to have more at stake and less they can do about it.
I do wrestle back and forth over the merit Miami Vice has (theatrical and unrated cuts)⦠I do have to conclude that Farrell didnāt get the job done, and there was no chemistry between him and Foxx, or Gong Li. That said, the world the movie paints makes a lasting impression, where thereās constant tension and fear of a blown cover (foreshadowed by the opening scene and the 50 cal sniper), even in the face of āthe good lifeā with tacky suits and overcompensating luxury cars.
Anyway, I said I love crime dramas⦠itāll be interesting to see Jackie Chan going back to serious roles
it was kinda shitty imo. over hyped if anything. TC cant act for shit. all he has to do is be there and the movie will sell(same with keenu reeve). he was decent in his early movies thoughā¦ie top gun.
you are kinda shitty imo.
I saw Oldboy the other day⦠the themes about revenge and hatred clicked with me, but the ride was better than the payoff. I thought the movie began to unravel when Woojin was interoduced. Daesu was awesome of course.
The Hollywood remake is doomed to fail (Speilberg and twisted noir = oil and water. Where was Fincher when this movie was greenlit?), but the fucked up parts of the movie that American audiences wouldnāt accept arenāt necessary to create an ultimate revenge fantasy film.
Heat is fucking epic man. I canāt even think of another Mann film worth remembering next to that. The ending for Heat is almost poetic. How can you not like Heat and like the Insider?
On a random note, I torrented Bram Stokerās Dracula and watched it recently (hence the avatar). I totally forgot how epic this movie was. I mean, it had been so long since Iād seen it. The only thing that fucked it up was Keanu, but I suppose that can be overlooked. Will there ever be another vampire movie to surpass it?
Let The Right One In was also very good. Really good, actually. Iād say 3rd best vampire related film ever, after Bram Stokerās and Interview of course. I think the vampire genre has been watered down over the years though; look at Blade, Underworld, Twilight (ugh), Van Helsing etc. I mean, all those movies pretty much sucked. What I mean is, I canāt really respect any of them as an art form at all. Theyāre just typical, glossed-up, substance-lacking, fanboy-inspired, hollywood filler bullshit. I mean 30 Days of Night was the only other vampire film Iād ever seen worth remembering but really though, in PGās words, I was sort of āunderwhelmedā by it.
I have high (albeit vain perhaps) hopes for the Castlevania movie though, since from what I understand, itās supposed to be centered around Alucard (SotN), but there is always the lingering air of hollywood failure.
just saw no country for old men(yeah yeah I am lateā¦). whatever happened to the money?? did the mexican find itā¦somehow??
and saw āthe thingā. wowzerā¦good shit even with random-ass 80s cgi lolā¦
Which is more beastly? The Mexican or the thing?
the mexican is obviously more beastly.

I saw that movie like 3 years ago, classic.
2 incredible films that hold up well to repeated viewings:tup:
The more important question is who would figure out the other first, a type2 or the thing?
there was no cgi in the thing?
i saw one of the best movies of 2008 recently: Wendy and Lucy. A simple story with series of understated scenes thatās carried by Michelle Williams (most overlooked role of the yr). As my friend puts it, āa meditation on the economic roots of existentialismā. A rare film that shows what America really looks like.
I saw Let the Right One In, that was an awesome movie. Wasnāt really the movie I thought it would be but it caught me by suprise. I finally saw Requiem For a Dream as well and that movie blew my mind. I think Im in love with Jennifer Connely.
About American Psycho, spoilers:
