Lmao…sorry if this isn’t a “review”, however about Gran Torino, they where looking for Hmong People (a.k.a. the asian people in the movie).
Since I’m Hmong, I happened to go and audition for it, because I was trying to get the main thug role in the movie, hahaha. They really liked my acting (even though I have no previous “professional” acting or w/e you want to call it), and asked me to try for the 2nd audition.
I was within a small group of handful of people to make it to that second part, and they really loved my improvisation as well as my voice and my supposed “cold” stares, lmao. However, at the end, I didn’t make the cut…because they said I looked too much like a Pretty Boy, and that I didn’t have the “thuggish look”.
How about that eh? You don’t make the cut not because you suck at acting, you don’t make it because you don’t look like a thug, or probably couldn’t pass for one…sigh.
However I understand where they are coming from, because no matter how “good” you maybe, if you don’t fit the look that they are trying to get, you just won’t make it…sigh. Oh well, it was fun, and yeah, I feel pretty good, out of the 1000+ who auditioned that day (way more then that across the country of the US), and I was able to get into the second batch it was good.
Yet it blows though, because I could’ve been in that movie, if I’d of made it, I would’ve spammed it all over srk.com, hahaha. Oh well, they got my number and stuff, and they said that they might be interested in me again in the future, if not for an extra or some other semi-role in some other flick, however I doubt they’ll call back again, even though they have my recordings, lol.
I’m going to go watch Gran Torino sometime this week too, need to support the Hmong Peeps in it!
Gran Torino was good. Pretty hilarious throughout. Tons of racist one-liners. Most of the hmong acting was pretty terrible though…you probably would have been an improvement True.
Also, Tuff Turf is awesome.
Holy crap, Tuff Turf? My sister used to watch that movie constantly when I was a kid. I need to track that down and see it again, there is some nostalgia.

Went to “the day the earth stood still” movie was really anti climatic throughout and Keanu was pretty wooden. the only decent part was hearing him attempt speak Chinese. I can’t speak it but even I could tell her was terrible at it.
It was pretty meh over all. Don’t waste your cash on this. If you feel you must watch it then “rent it” .
I’m with Roger Ebert. I don’t understand the whole “rent it” mentality. Either the movie’s worth watching or it isn’t, and a difference in venue isn’t going to improve it.
I think renting or going to the theater is a matter of personal preference that is independent of the material itself. Form vs. content.
And I wouldn’t touch The Day the Earth Stood Still even with somebody else’s finger. The original is fine, and I don’t need to see a remake that only exists because it’s in color/new/has current bankable stars attached to it. (In other words, the main reasons most people go to see movies like this.)
