The SRK Movie Fanatic Thread (REVIEWS, QUESTIONS, RANTS, STARS...ETC.) EVERYTHING!

Watched QoS, was highly disappointed.

I watched ā€œLet the Right One Inā€ and let me say it coloured many shades of disturbed. All in a understated and extremely subtle fashion. I do like the film a LOT mainly that it’s not pound in your fucking face exposition and a slow paced movie.

the MAJOR SPOILER madness

Spoiler

Holy fucking shit man. Stagnating/growing into pedophilia, sociopaths developing an enabling/enabler relationship, homosexuality and 12 year old eunuchs is quite a fucking way to MESS WITH YOUR HEAD! The interesting thing is the trailer looked like it was full of children like some vampiric Charlie Brown world where adults rarely appear. If this was shown with just adults it’d probably work. However I was discussing this film with my friend who’ve already seen it and there are a lot of layers to this. It’s complex and anyone who thinks it’s a cute romance should be shot.

It’s basically a great vampire movie that everyone should see and get fucked up in the head with.

OC

What a coincidence, I watched it last night, too.

I think I was a little underwhelmed by it, but probably just cause I had such high expectations. Still a great movie.

I jokingly thought ā€œWhat if he’s really a boy and its some crying game type twist at the endā€ everytime Eli said, ā€œI’m not a Girlā€, then it turns out to be true. I heard that the book goes into more detail as to why it happened and how. Also, at the end, was Oskar escaping with Eli? For some reason I thought that he was visiting his Dad again and Eli was just following. Probably the former though.[/details]

Some of the effects in the movie looked a bit out of place, but it was probably due to budget constraints. This movie is already scheduled for a hollywood remake :-/ I liked it though, even though it didn’t meet my expectations (my fault). Some good dark humor and a pretty compelling story.

i saw rocknrolla last night, i thought it was ok at best, very awkward pacing and somewhat slow…oh well…i thought revolver was a better guy ritchie movie…

I watched The Fall last night. Awesome movie, loved it. And I usually watch nothing but bad movies.

That one statement about being not a girl is a pretty loaded comment because since ā€œitā€ has lived longer than 12 years (in the novel it was 200 supposedly) it’s not a child/girl but instead an adult. It could also be seen as the vampire angle but with the crying game thing gone on it sort of distrubed me. My mind almost was in denial almost thinking that Eli was a victim of female circumsian and thus an actual girl but nope…Eli got the eunuch special some time in its life. What’s really cool is that the director deliberately picked an androgenous looking actress for the role of Eli.

I liked the SFX because the entire film was so low key. The result is making any use of the SFX actually supernatural as opposed to an expected pattern within the film such as Vampires doing all sorts of super moves every 10 minutes in Underworld. The Hollywood remake might be somewhat watchable since they are going to source the book as opposed to the film now. Although some of the shit I’m hearing the director wants to do such as make the characters older is making me shake my head.

I don’t know what to say regarding the hollywood remake. There isn’t any young actors that I like or imagine could really pull any of the lightyears ahead acting in seen in this film. I mean unless the director really knows what the fuck he’s doing and is able to create a connection between the audience understanding the protagonist, this film could be no fucking better than half of the horror schlock coming out of there.

OC

There’s a million great actors out there of all ages who could do the role but shia la bouef will end up getting it instead. They’re not household names and instead they’re out doing plays and occasionally they’ll land a role in a movie that 5 people will see.

oh btw i saw Revolutionary Road last night and sorry Heath Ledger but Michael Shannon just stole your best supporting actor oscar chances

so i just saw the dear hunter and damn that movie was not that good…way overhyped…

movie had a lot of problems imo, like pacing, editing, irrelavant characters and scenes… and the only semi interesting part was the vietnam russian roulette scene…

all criterion dvds are 40% off at their web site right now through while supplies last

thx for the heads up!

edit: holy shit, did you see the 50 years janus boxed set?!? that thing is out of control…

ā€œGates of Heavenā€ is pretty dope. Its a documentary about pet cemeteries and the people affiliated. Most are insane.

I finally watched ā€œWantedā€. It was actually better than I thought it would be. I really appreciated the whole mystical gun slinging ridiculousness. Some bad writing though. And who ever wrote it put in some strange messages about ā€œbeing a man!ā€ and all kinds of self reaffirmation. What this movie teaches us is that you can find yourself by being good with guns… and then using those guns to kill people. Don’t kill your dad.

watched the proposition tonight. i thought it was pretty good. i think people hyped it up too much for me or something. it was a great western, but not as good as i was expecting.

i would just like to say the proposition was/is miles ahead of dear hunter, fuck a dear hunter, i am almost upset that i sat through that whole movie…

well at least you thought it was pretty good…

proposition gets better on second viewing i think

i can see that…i did think it was a very well made movie, maybe i just need to give it another veiwing…

also the nick cave song that ends the movie is badass

i thought the ā€œlashesā€ scene was very well shot…nothing revolutionary, just a nice music + montage scene.

i thought the most brutal part of that whole scene was when they showed the flogger wringing out the blood…

Gah, I was looking to watch that this weekend =/

Any specifics as to why you were disappointed?

Maybe I’ll just have to go to the early bird showings so I can watch it for relatively cheap.

most of the criterions are cheaper at dvdplanet/deepdiscount with their 25% off code now

free shipping too, dunno what criterion charges for shipping
