The SRK Movie Fanatic Thread (REVIEWS, QUESTIONS, RANTS, STARS...ETC.) EVERYTHING!

i’m actually quite annoyed they dropped conrad - why did they even begin to introduce the conrad / nancy thing? plus, i loved hayley, she was cool. andy and doug together has always been a good thing for the show…those two kill me, especially doug…

ya it wasnt deep, it was basically how you described it in your spoiler…

i have no words…

i watched Sal or the 120 Days of Sodom a few weeks ago. anybody see this one? makes me want to grow up to be a libertine

i tried to watch salo on sveeral occassions, but never got through it…not my kind of film…

 you know a movie is messed up when unapologetic sexual deviants can’t even finish it. i read the director was murdered shortly after it was released.

it wasn’t even that it disturbed me or anything, it just didn’t capture my attention. movies like last house, disgusted me, but i sat through the whole thing. salo just made me want to fast forward through it…

I watched Salo on the big screen during a Pasolini festival here a few years ago. My favorite part is after they have eaten the shit and the bearded libertine give the young boy a big wet shit kiss.

that movie with an audience = ggpo

I view Cannibal Holocaust as a comedy and I still can’t sit through Salo. I have seen the whole thing but not in one sitting.

i have not even heard of this movie Salo, but sounds…interesting…

the movie is actually tame compared to the book. That is the only book I’ve read where it actually made me feel physically sick the more I read.

what is the movie/book about??? and is it just mad graphic???

It is a transposition of de Sade’s The 120 Days of Sodom to the last days of Fascist Italy.

It is MAD graphic.
You can’t even make a comparison in media, honestly.
But I would rather watch 9/11 jumper vids and Iraqi prisoner beheadings than read that book again.

Here’s a quick summary of the general plot (no actual spoilers really, despite the tags:)

.

[details=Spoiler]Sal occurs in the Republic of Sal, the Fascist rump state established in the Nazi-occupied portion of Italy in 1944. The story is in four segments loosely parallel to Dante’s Inferno: the Anteinferno, the Circle of Manias, the Circle of Feces, and the Circle of Blood.

Four men of power, the Duke, the Bishop, the Magistrate, and the President agree to marry each other’s daughters as the first step in a debauched ritual. With the aid of several collaborator young men, they kidnap 9 young men and 9 young women, and take them to a palace near Marzabotto. Accompanying them are four middle-aged prostitutes, also collaborators, whose function in the debauchery will be to recount erotically arousing stories for the men of power, and who, in turn, will sadistically exploit their victims. The story depicts the many days at the palace, during which the four men of power devise increasingly abhorrent tortures and humiliations for their own pleasure.[/details]

yeah, i get sick just reading a synopsis of the book, there’s no way i could stomach reading it…

It’s interesting though because I think we in America have been lead to believe that perversity and sexual depravity is some kind new phenomenon that “kids these days” brought in and that our culture has gotten coarser and coarser as it has gone on. While the truth is that everything under the sun has been thought of or done long before we were ever born and people back in the day were much more fucked up than us - there is no such thing as a golden age.

here is a text version of the book online. you only need to read an excerpt to get it: http://www.globusz.com/ebooks/120Days/00000010.htm

One would hope that any age of enlightenment could be considered golden, when cultural standards have shifted against the elaborate tortures and depravity found in world history. I’d like to think that we have that now, but I’m not sure the United States circa 2008 can be considered to be in an age of enlightened anything.

i have been a student of sex from the time i found a penthouse under my older brother’s bed when i was five. the history of sex and people’s views on sex and sexuality throughout the ages has been a interest of mine, and i can tell you we are definately NOT living in an age of depravity compared to the insane appetites of aristocrats throughout history…
