I thought the redhead was Christina Hendricks for a sec, but then I realized its the girl from St. Trinian’s. I guess Bond girls have only one agent (other than Bond).
batman the original on blu-ray. looked really good, but i forgot how campy this show/movie was. i wish more comic book movies would go back to this instead of taking themselves so seriously
reign over me - blu-ray PQ was alright, i think it would of been better if sandler wasn’t the lead. not bc sandler is a bad actor, but whenever i see him i just think of his stupid roles like i now pronounce you chuck and larry and can’t take him seriously. decent movie though, but no real resolution at the end
point break - blu ray PQ was really nice. never seen this before, only that scene from hot fuzz. i dunno i really hated this movie, that 10 minute sky diving sequence was pretty funny, but the action wasn’t that good and story was unbelievable
house of 1000 corpses/devil’s rejects - both looked really good in blu, i saw DR in theaters before and liked it, first time seeing 1000 corpses. i thought it was alright, a little over the top. after watching 1000 corpses, i dunno why they didn’t bring any of the underground stuff back into devil’s rejects. plus was there a connection at all between dr. satan and the firefly family? i must of missed it, but why were they helping dr. satan out?
Wall-E left a strong impression on me in many ways. I felt that movie succeeded in a lot of ways where standard live-action movies have failed miserably for many years. I’ll just use one example this time.
After I saw Wall-E I realized how tired I am of so many movies having to use violence and tragedy to sell a movie. There’s really nothing mature or necessary about violence and related uses of shock value. Violence in movies today isn’t too different than 80s movies where the female lead had to go topless or do an awkard sex scene with the main actor at least once. Everyday life isn’t plagued with death and destruction. Even in a war zone, the most interesting story in that setting doesn’t always have to be related to the fucking war.
I just hate that it’s the accepted norm in most films to have at least an explosion or a gunshot or adultery. Being bombarded with violent images doesn’t necessarily desensitize you. It’s like spending your day stuffing your face with cake and lollipops and candy bars and sour gumballs and frosting and doughnuts and Skittles and soda and Yoohoo and etc.-- you wouldn’t be ‘desensitized’ to all the sugar you jammed down your throat, you’ll just wanna scrub your mouth out or throw up.
I’d like to see more movies like Good Night and Good Luck, where you can go through a movie with serious subject matter, but without anybody gettng killed or any other ‘mature’ antisocial activity. I’m just burnt out by the facade that the most interesting story most live-action movies can tell must revolve around death and destruction. If this sounds weird to some people, oh well.
but really, when there is a live action flick out and it isnt action or war or some shit its usually a lousy comedy, romantic comedy, or something that wouldnt appeal to anyone who is a man. in short, none of it is really that interesting, to me at least.
you know whats a great movie (if you arent already aware of it)? Ghost World, some of my friends hate on it because they say its a “chick flick”. which leads me into my next statement:
my friends are idiots.
Ghost World is one of the few times I liked the movie over the (comic) book.
The use of violence in film, as with any medium, works or doesn’t work depending entirely on context. One gunshot to the head in Schindler’s List is more effective than hundreds of gunshots in the Matrix due to the weight of the material. When somebody is killed in Schindler’s List, it means something. It’s eye candy when somebody is killed in the Matrix.
If violence works in a film that has a cavalier attitude towards the lives that are in jeopardy, it’s the exception rather than the rule.
Yeah, I wish we had some comic book flicks that don’t take themselves seriously too, just not ones involving Batman. Maybe like a non-serious Spiderman movie (not like 3 but more like one that just embraces the absurdity of the whole thing) instead of the dreck that we got.
Point Break is awesome dude but you have to watch it in the right mindset. It is Keanu’s second-best performance of all time. The first is of course, Bill + Ted (which still holds up imo).
I loved the ending to Casino Royale where he just gunned down the dude on Lake Cuomo with the assault rifle and took the money and the Bond theme started playing for the first time in the movie. It sort of just let you know that now, Bond is Bond.
I wouldn’t say it’s the exception. It just works in some cases (RoboCop, Bad Boys, Rambo2, some slasher flick series, James Bond, etc.) but not in others (Matrix sequels, XXX, Steven Segal movies, etc.)
Watch Iron Man in the theaters last night…About $50 for family outing…Shits crazy but at least the movie was good. 9 out 10
CJ7 - Watch this in the plane when i was coming back from my vacation…Very different Stephen Chow film…Its more of a family kids film w/ touch of drama/sci-fi…Not what i expected but still had its charm like most Chow films…7 out 10
An Empress and the Warriors - Another film i watched in the plane…Donnie Yen wasted…I was expecting better fight scenes from him at least…Had the stupid love story…Movie could have been better if had some subtlety & movie was very predictable…5 out 10
oh yea if you like horror there’s a movie coming out tomorrow called “Dead and Gone”
my friend edited the film and said its really good horror-comedy film, up there with Evil Dead/Return of the Living Dead. he gave me a dvd screener of it and i watched it last night and i agree.
the guy who did the music for friday the 13th did the music for it too
sucks that movies like this end up straight to dvd and obscurity, but so many crap horror movies end up in theaters
Does anyone have the new Inglorious Bastards (not the one QT has been planning for a decade but the old one) 3 disc DVD set? How are the picture quality and special features?
yeah. How many DVD/Blu-ray/Laserdiscs/actual prints do you own?
i have like 3000 dvd, 100 or so laserdisks, 300 blu ray, 250 hd dvd, 50 d-vhs, and about 225 or so actual film reels
i could probably afford to fund a movie or two and be okay financially, but i’m really risk adverse so i wouldn’t do it
plus iw ork like 18 hours a day between all the restaurants i own/sports betting/other business ventures and its hard to just step away from them for one day let alone a month. then usually watch a movie and sleep for 4 hours then repeat
though i was actually looking to sell all 37 restaurants and do something else, but most of them have been printing money the last couple of years for some reason, so its kind of hard to just give that up. only thing is it takes so long to just keep track of them. and if i just sell some then i’ll get higher prices on food for the profitable ones since i’m buying less which cuts the profit down, so its either all or nothing with selling them
