So there’s a rap thread, metal thread, R&B and who knows how many others here in GD, why not indie? I figured this could be a good place to share any bands that people want to spread the word on.

Recently I’ve been listening to a lot of [media=youtube]4he_jgJrMCk"]Dirty Projectors (sounds like Animal Collective), Ratatat (2 guys on guitars with a drum machine doing electric-sounding instrumentals), and [(lead singer is nephew of Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips).

I haven’t been listening to music that much lately but.

Blonde Redhead, Pinback, Wolfparade, futureheads, grandaddy.

Ive been listening to indie rock a lot more lately.

death cab is on the twilight 2 soundtrack, they lost all indie cred. forever. and now I hate them.

as much as I love them, modest mouse is semi-big and are in guitar hero/rockband.

I think I’ve seen minus the bear? were they at bumbershoot in the last few years. or opened for any big concerts in seattle? sounds familiar.

check out blue scholars, socially conscious, seattle/northwest based rap duo (one dj and one emcee).

thats kind of a sliding scale really. no matter what band you like that is hella underground, some bearded hipster (who only listens to shit with a skinny homo and a dyke only using microkorgs) out there thinks they sold out the first time they played at a venue that wasn’t some dudes basement. its the inherent irony of the indie scene.

with that said, i get into rilo kiley, bird and the bee (speaking of a homo and a dyke), and used to listen to q and not u. thats about it.

I’ll have to check some of these bands out. Right now I’m listening to Death Cab - Narrow Stairs, The Decemberists, some Bright Eyes, and The Shins.

imo indie doesn’t exist anymore. just consider the fact that pitchfork is one of the biggest music criticism outlets around. All of these bands people are naming are huge names.

bands got bills too don’t hate because they have a song in some product you don’t like.

Yeah, I’m a huge fan of Thom Yorke and Radiohead and I like some of Death Cab for Cutie’s songs and I don’t care if they contributed to the Twilight soundtrack.

Didn’t Lupe Fiasco do Solar Midnite for it as well?

Their just trying to get in on some of that Twilight money.

don’t mind my random twilight hate, I realize bands gotta make money and twilight is the in thing. heck, last time I saw death cab, they played a stadium packed full of people, so any semblance of “indy” is long gone.
