The SRK Blazblue General Discussion Thread

@AksysGames: I went to UCI’s Zot Zone arcade earlier. The manager didn’t give me her number and she said that she had to speak to her supervisor first to check if they were planning on getting any new games (to my knowledge they aren’t because the games they have there now are the same as the ones they had when it first re-opened). She said they would call me back. That doesn’t particularly sound good but I will remain hopeful and encourage other UCI players to inquire about it. I really want UCI to get this game. The only fighting games that are getting play there are 3S and Marvel, the rest are just taking up space and they’re really old.

Damn, just found out Battle Fantasia is a 360 exclusive. Is the release date really September 16th for North America? Very little press about it…kinda came outta nowhere.

Can anyone here (aksysgames?) verify this info? Where i can find out about game modes, extras, etc? gamefaqs has nothing!

Yeah Battle Fantasia is scheduled for Sept 16th release. As extra within the game, most of everything that was in the Japanese will be found in the US version. We’re keeping the voices in Japanese however.

Let me know what you find out then, cause it would be sad that UCI doesn’t get it and other UC schools do.

Yeah I’ll be furious if they don’t get the game while other UCs do. Especially because there are quite a number of Guilty Gear players in or around the Irvine area. I’m pretty annoyed they didn’t give me a phone number. I feel it would have been more effective if you spoke to them directly because you could provide more detailed information. I felt like I was being interviewed when she asked me a bunch of questions. :\

Okay since I am an avid GG player (Johnny) I really going to miss the FRC’s, ji, slashbacks, ect. :crybaby: Anyways, we all know that the game is gorgeous, but how deep is it really? I know that you can combo in and out of throws, and burst have new properties, but so far the game looks like it only runs with GGAC basics. Does anyone know anyone knows more about the game mechanics or are Arc system keeping things close to the chest? I know that the game is still not complete, but since I was not fortunate enough to go to a loc-test I thought I’d ask. This is the type of stuff that I find interesting. :xeye:

DO not mistake depth with tons of features.

Yeah… That is why I asked about the game mechanics (the technical stuff). Sorry if I did not clarify.

I know this is not the place to ask this, but can you confirm if the US version of Battle Fantasia is free region?.

I think the fact that everyone’s D button is so different is very interesting game mechanic.

Depth is decided by how much options you have, which is what GG had. Slashbacks, Instant Blocking, Jump Installing, FRCing, Faultless Defense, etc. were not “features”, but options.

You are still making the mistake.
Look at Super Turbo: the framework of the game is about as rudimentary as it gets by modern standards… but no one who has seriously played this for some time will tell you it’s a shallow game.
Yet at the same time it’s pretty easy to pick up for people and play against friends without feeling the game is not letting them use itself decently.

So I for myself truly look forward to this game, it’s a bit like “back to the GG basics”, which is the game I initially fell in love with way back on PS1. :china:

P.S:Baiken was so much cooler to play in original GG than in X :xeye:

I like the look of Blazblue because it looks quite straightforward and not overly complicated, but still seems to feel so very “solid”.

Kind of like Monster.

I also like the idea of playing as Arakune and running away for the whole match, lol.

No, depth is determined by how many strategic decisions you have to make per a given amount of time. The amount of ‘options’ the whole game gives you has nothing to do with that, because only very few of those will ever be viable at any given time. Go is one hell of a deep game even though all you do is put stones on a board.

Strategic decisions per given amount of time? So a game in which you have to make 5 strategic decisions in a minute is deeper than a game in which you have to make 4 in one minute? That doesn’t make any sense…

Depth is found in option selects.

Looking forward to this game. Yeah

Uh, some game theory here… I think the clarity or weight of the advantages brought by making successful strategic decisions and the disadvantages brought by making “bad” unsuccessful strategic decisions is probably generally as important in determining the depth of a competitive game as the frequency at which meaningful strategic moments occur. The number of times you’re presented with multiple options is not more important than how good the good options are and how bad the bad options are. The significance of individual strategic interactions, as well as the importance of specific and certain ones relative to each other, and the web of greater scale macro-strategy to which they naturally give rise, is a critical determinant in just how deep a competitive game can be.

As a follow-up/aside to that, I’m adding that there probably reaches a vague limit where simply having more and more frequent strategic turning points would actually detract from a game, rather than add anything to it. When important decisions happen way too often, the overall importance of each decision as an independent event is eventually dulled. That said, a title from our game type of choice, the versus fighting video game, would be just plain boring if strategic decisions over a given period of time were too few or far between. A tangible example would be a title where every hit starts a combo that lasts 40 seconds; the players spend more time on autopilot than dynamic thought-wars against each other.

I guess that, with the frequency of strategic decisions, the game developers have to strike some sort of a… (wait for it)… balance.

shut up everyone

I agree with the above statement, I just wanna play this shit.

@Aksysgames: Ok, I finally got the contact information of the manager of UCI’s Zot Zone arcade. I figured I’d be a little sneaky about it and instead of going there myself, I called the information desk, asked them to forward me there, and then I asked the person on duty for the contact info. So here it is:

Manager: Jialing Zhao
Contact number: 949-824-2433

As stated earlier she’ll have to talk to her supervisor but at the very least, there would be a higher chance of success if you spoke to her and explained everything in great detail since you guys are the distributor. If it helps any, mention that the vanilla Guilty Gear XX isn’t getting any play and that BB could easily replace that and Soul Calibur 2 here. :X
