I have to admit, I’m getting a little nervous. I see this happening two ways: one, Miller adapts the (forgive the expression) true spirit of The Spirit, and the public gets angry because they expected it to be another Sin City. Two, Miller adapts The Spirit to be another Sin City, thus raining shit all over the source material.
Hopefully, the former rather than the latter. From what I’ve read about the plot, they’ve got the hot chick that’s bad for you aspect down. It just needs the swashbuckling and cool action sequences.
Really cool design work there. I think I have confidence in Miller to respect Eisner’s work. I suspect that poster just looks like Sin City because that’s just how Miller draws and designs stuff. Did you ever read that Dark Horse book, Eisner/Miller? I haven’t read the book, but from what I understand, Miller respects Eisner a whole lot, so I think he’ll do his best to be true to the Spirit.
I swear if Samuel L. says Motherfuckin’ one time in this movie I’m going to walk out, I’m tired of that bullshit.
Who is the main guy? Never seen him before, cool to see Eva Mendis and Scarlett though, the set makes the film look kinda hammy to me though. If it’s anything like the 40’s-50’s film noir mystery stuff though I shall see it.
That’s not exactly what I meant. People are going to say, “Hmm, it’s Frank Miller, doing a bunch of CG shit, and the movie’s full of guys in trench coats and beautiful women…” The average ig’nant moviegoer is probably going to expect this to be like Sin City, even though the Spirit really isn’t. I doubt a lot of casual viewers will realize just how old school and influential the Spirit is.
WAY too Sin City-esque, right down to the hard-boiled narration.
Hopefully the next trailer includes some humor and human interest, enough to get people on board with the quintessentially Eisner side of the character.
I have faith in Miller’s capable hands. He knows better than to treat the Spirit like a hard-boiled Sin City yarn. I recall reading something somewhere about a fight scene with the Macht punching Jackson which worries me, considering the fact that the Octopus’s identity has remained secret to this day.
i dunno what to say, its clear the directing style will be sin city. which honestly i like, cause its unique and gives a cartoony feel without being cartoony.
Looks interesting I guess but I’ll probably wait for video. I dunno, maybe if I see another trailer that’s not too Sin City-ish… Comes out in December? Well that month I’ll watch the Punisher movie of course for my Marvel love and we’ll see about everything else. :looney:
