I think it’s butt ugly but some people might like it, no idea. Guess I should be glad though. If they had locked her cleavage version behind color 15 I would probably have continued playing her.
For block strings its generally better to watch high level matches from someone like gentlemanthief, he’s Juri is extremely optimized. Juri’s main string is crLP>stMP>stMK. If stMP hits you can combo into stMK and from their either do MK Ryo/EX fuha/MK release combo.
If you have fireball, crLP>stMP>crMK fireball. crLp>stMP beats 3 framers/throws unless they delay tech. crMP>crMK beats 4 framers, stMP is +2 oB so its easy to condition the opponent to respect it. after the fireball, you can walk forward and then stMP>LK store again to continue pressure. this store should be spaced enough that they can’t press a button afterwards. so I generally stMK OS to catch any attempt, or if the stMP or LK store hit, I can follow up with ex fuha and start wakeup pressure again.
After you frame trap them with stMP enough they won’t press a button anymore which allows you to stagger stMP or walk up throw/shimmy.
I would mainly focus on meaty setups into good frametraps/strings to keep the opponent guessing.
After landing EX fuha >>dash>crLP>stMP>stMK. On quickrise crLP hits on its very last frame which allows you to link stMP without counter hit. If you do the crLP>stLP OS the standing lp trades with 3 framers to cover both rises.
Don’t forget to throw, Juri looses to downbacking big time so go for throws/tick-throws after crLP or stLP, stMP they’re all + oB. Juri has a lot of tech at her disposal to manage most match ups, nothing is free though, don’t give up screen space.
This is a very insightful post, thank you. Do you happen to know what are the exact inputs for that blockstring that Gentlemanthief often use? It should be something like cr.LP,cr.LK, cr.MK
Juri is too straight forward in a game where every other character has 50/50 all day every day. Somewhere I think I mentioned match up knowledge is a big part of her play because of her tool set. If the opponent doesn’t have a 3 or 5 framer like Guile, you can do different stuff like crlp/stlp>stHP because he can’t reach with jab but will loose if he uses a 6 framer. The idea is to always take the damage you can take.
I saw thief combo crLP>stLP>stLK>lp dp then crMk>fireball. After pinwheel you are at perfect range to hit crMK with the tip of its hitbox, so if they hit anything they will be hit, if you dash after fireball you are +, if the fireball hits you can combo into stMP… or you can jump, if you walk a few frames you can do a really ambiguous jump because you can either have the fireball hit before your jumping attack and hit from the front or jMK right before fireball connect and you get a cross up, this while the threat of the fireball is still there. OR you can store twice while the fireball is advancing as well…
Abuse the pushback from stMP in the corner to keep you safe. i.e. after a knockdown>>crLP>MP>store, stagger stMP. to keep scoring knockdowns and keep meaty pressure or bait dps. Her stLK is godly with 4 active frames to catch buttons and whiff punish/buffer. it can be made +4 on meaty block or +7/+9 oH lol.
She wins out of the little stuff, not from some over the top left-right overhead mix ups, she takes work and consistency to win, something I don’t have time to do.
I honestly don’t play enough to advance, haven’t touched ranked in months and don’t play as consistent as I need to be great with Juri. Maybe when I finally rank up and go against better people I’ll pick up on more things. I’ll post more stuff when I get home.
Confirms what I thought; the BrutalAce mod is an attempt at faithfully recreating it. Kinda like ‘Save as .SFV’. Whereas the Nostalgia Costume is an adaptation of the old costume, but not a direct remake of it. Honestly, most of the colors aside, the nostalgia costume is one of my favorites for her right now.
