The Spider's Lair - Juri

She definitely beats Ryu. Once she charges V Skill which isn’t very hard to do he loses his ability to generally play neutral vs her. Her s.MK beats his other pokes and then get room to store LK fireballs which beat his pokes and go under his fireball.

Ryu can’t effect the areas of the screen that Juri can when fully resourced and her buttons are arguably better than his.

She’s definitely better than Chun at this point as well. She’s not gdlk but she’s at minimum 4 or 5 characters above the worst in the game. Not that it matters since Bonchan is winning with a character that Infiltration called dead. If you’re not playing Fang you can at least try with your character.

A good Ryu will hardly let you charge that vskill. Yes,she has anti fireball tools but this version of Ryu does not depend on fireballs as much as sf4 Ryu imo,while she does depend on her charges. You dont zone vs Juri as Ryu,you get close to her so she cant build resources.

Bad DP is better than no DP, and I say this after having it stuffed multiple times and having lost my shit about it.

I was thinking footsies, she has very good range overall (well… C.HP being the glaring exception)

From a numbers stand point she is right now, we all saw how she has the lowest winning % in the entire cast. We can argue about our different perceptions, but purely on numbers overall she is.
It could be that we, the Juri players are terrible at the game.

well, she isn’t exactly easy to figure out and requires a bit more of efforts compared to characters like Cammy imo.

Ryu vs Juri is even at best

I feel Juri stored/charged up greatly hinders Ryu in neutral. Guile can barely throw fireballs against a V Skill charged Juri, so Ryu isn’t going to get any out and that’s a big part of his neutral game to threaten with. I would give slight advantage to Juri ATM just based on that going on 6 4 if the match gets in the spotlight more. She can also EX ryodansatsu his fireballs on reaction so that gives her two strong options to stop Ryu’s biggest neutral option. Which then forces him to play aggressively which while he can do, isn’t as scary as Ken’s or Akuma’s offense.

Juri ever since SFIV has usually attracted a lot of casual/intermediate competitive players who just kinda like dicking around with her and just come up with excuses real fast for everything involving her. With her gameplan radically changing in SFV it’s made things even tougher.

She doesn’t have like a Bonchan or Fuudo top top level player to really herald her ATM. The closest is Hsien Chang, but he lost out early to F.Champ at the last tourney he was in and only goes to so many tourneys to begin with. Gentleman Thief has the best current shot of showing what Juri can do in tournament. He plays her aggressively like Aiai, but more optimized so he gets more wins and is more threatening in neutral. Makes sense that he’s the only Master rank Juri ATM. He just doesn’t go to tourneys much AFAIK to really show off.

I think Ryu vs Juri is pretty even. I think Ryu does better in scramble situations and has more damage though.

I think Juri is better than Chun now. Chun is basically a higher execution version of Juri with the same low damage, but with a less threatening throw. Now that IALL is -2, Chun doesn’t really have anything plus outside of cr.lp, neutral st.mp and b + HP, and none of those have great range, so you have to use her walkspeed to get throws. Chun still has nice long range normals, but that doesn’t mean much since S2. Juri also handles projectiles a lot better than Chun.

I want more damage amd range on store. It’s not fun seeing rog get comebacks off one hit and one mixup. Same with Laura.

More damage on her store seems like a needed change and one that would make sence,since her entire gameplan is around them. However, season 2 patch notes actually reduced the damage on her heavy store,so that begs the eternal question : What the hell does Capcom want to do with Juri in SF V ?

Capcom won’t bring her into the game till next season at this point. I’m only super gold so tier list doesn’t matter much…

On a side note,

what the hell am i supposed to do with her v trigger, is Hk fuha the only real effective way to activate? What do I do with it in neutral, I seem to spam lows into fireball and have issues confirming much else. So far i’ve survived with just neutral and somewhat corner pressure but confirming anything to damage seems to be the real struggle.

I have no real complaints about whatever they are doing. AA Jab still works most of the time. Give her some more damage. I don’t wanna pull out every mixup or go through twenty scramble situations just to get an advantage. Forcing someone to respect her options can be a little discouraging.

If you’ve tried survival at 115% more power. I feel like that’s where her damage should be at for everything.

Better damage on her normals at least 20-40 more damage on some of her medium normals. Let lk fireball be +3 oH, +1 oB. I think lk fireball during trigger should stay the same. I don’t mind it so much just change the advantage it gets on block. Give her some meterless option after store on hit. Lk pinwheel like in sf4 would be nice.

St.mp having more range and Store too would solve a lot of problems.

Otherwise she’s fine. Just needs the right dedicated player. I wish I could go to tourneys like I would want. Maybe next year I can rep her at EVO.

115% is plenty more damage, enough to get her frame traps and set ups respected. Whenever I go against a Juri without stores I never feel discouraged to mash a 3 frame normal, the reward for interrupting her pressure, checking her frame traps or shimmies is infinitely worth the little damage she gets without stores.
Try doing that against Boxer and watch 1/3 of your life disappear.

I honestly don’t need an actual damage buff, what needs to be adjusted is how she deals it. cHP needs more range and make it safe oB, -2 is fine, don’t need a godly heavy like rog but at least something to deal gray life that can cc. bHK is good but sometimes I feel like it doesn’t quite excel anywhere, its 7 frames so sMP feels more useful, it can be canceled on either hit but i can just link sMP to cMP or cmk on CH because at max range bHK on block will whiff store anyways. I wish the second hit of bHK linked to mk release, but that seems like to much to ask capcom.

Actually if they don’t wanna buff her frames more damage would make he feel better to play, would still probably be low tier but it would be less frustrating.
I say this because over the weekend I lost my shit after losing some games on Juri and Chun because they do fuck all damage. I switched to Alex, he’s still bad, but sure as hell I did not get mad at losing as he feels funnier to play, because when you hit something the health goes down for real, and most importantly spending 1 bar to perform an EX is rewarding, Juri’s EX moves add very little damage compared tp what you end up spending…
Also well Alex’s EX knee thing goes throu Akuma’s Air fireball and it felt so right.

I’m trying so hard to get to diamond and it’s just a pain. I’m figuring I might as well learn rog on a separate account then come back body people and get to diamond. Juri is pissing me off lol.

I know the feeling. I sort of refuse to fully go into another character until I get there though. been stagnating around 12k for the last few attempts at ranking up.

I get to 13k just about 300 from diamond and then it’s losses after losses.

After a week of Mika and Alex I think I’m ready to get back to Juri… mostly because it is impossible to log in final fantasy XIV… hope I don’t rage.

I’m reaching my breaking point now. The amount of games I lose due to charging is insane. Fuck what anybody says, Juri is bottom 3 because of those Fucking charges.
