I know the feeling of skepticism when you hear "story and combat focused’ for a Sonic game, but I feel like they could make a cool adventure if they really are sticking to Ratchet/Jak/Sly style level design. Some semi-funny dialogue/exchanges are really all I’m asking for as far as story is concerned.
I agree, Sonic games don’t need much more than that as far as story is concerned.
Overall though, I think I’m gonna get distracted by the character designs here. I hope the game is good because SEGA seems to be taking a bit of a gamble here, but the redesigns (which are baaad) don’t give me much hope.
There’s fuck innovation and there’s generic. It’s a fine line but this game is hitting generic pretty hard.
I actually liked the story focus in SA2, sure they messed up a bit beyond that game but it was a good premise and I wish they kept it going.
Sonic: Lost World is getting free Legend of Zelda themed DLC tomorrow. Sonic will don Link’s tunic and will have dungeon inspired levels

Some info about Sonic Boom came out 2 months ago that I missed
bullet point Excerpt:
The Wii U GamePad will be used to display a map and upgrades, as well as another function which is yet to be unveiled
The game follows an adventure style with currency and upgrades for the characters
The game is more “organically” challenging, in that difficulty arises from skill in combat and finding hidden secrets as opposed to enemies just becoming tougher
All the levels in the game are connected by the story and its locations
You will mainly use two characters at a time during gameplay, but all four will show up in hubs and boss fights
There will be points in the game where you are required to use a certain character to proceed
The game will be very character driven, with a lot of focus put onto each individual character and their unique abilities
We will “definitely” be seeing other characters from the Sonic series making an appearance – these will be revealed over the coming months

Why so mad? There’s nothing wrong with the direction the developers want to go on with this game.

There is no reason this needs Sonic.
Everything I’ve seen so far is so painfully generic, I’m willing to bet there are certain treasures you can only break as a certain characters, that “puzzles” will consist of throwing a switch simultaneously. This is basically shorthand for crappy licensed kiddy game #3980575787507350 with Sonic and dubstep.

I don’t have a problem with the developers wanting to play it safe with the first entry of the sub-series. The direction they are going with this game isn’t far off from what was done with Sly Cooper and that series is great.
Sly Cooper had stealth and linearity.
