The Sonic the hedgehog thread V.7 2017 its been generations since the last good sonic game

I’m bored…which means it’s list time. Should list all the Sonic/Shadow Levels in SA2 and rank them from Best to Worst.

egggolem boss just for this song being in the previous cutscene. <3

Maybe it’s cause I’m a K-T-E fan, but I got no beef with Knux stages. He does what his character does; glides, climb, punch. It’s also fun trying to figure out where the gems/keys are. Too bad they’re usually in the same predetermined spots, so that takes the fun away. Would people prefer it if he had Sonic/Shadow stages and he could just glide over everything?

I hope this HD port looks better. I still think SA1 graphics are more smooth and appealing than SA2 but there’s nothing wrong with SA2 graphics.

I don’t really mind Knuckles’ and Rouge’s stages. As a matter of fact Pumpkin Hill is one the best levels in my opinion. Also, I think the cutscenes look a lot nicer in SA2. I really like the music in this game too.

I don’t mind his levels being about searching for stuff, but Hot n Cold shit is annoying, and that dinging noise was like nails on the black bard of my mind. Nothing like being really close to one of the shards but not being able to find all the while that god damn noise is just going on and on ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding fuck it’s enough to drive any man to drink.

Having played for about two or three hours today…

Well, the graphics are “kind of” better. They use the proper aspect ratio and the game runs at 720/1080 now. I think they also added some small effects (or rather, restored ones that didn’t work in Gamecube for whatever reason.) While whoever ported it added some new graphics for the 360 version, it only reaches as far as icons and some menu items…so basically, 3D looks much better…but all the textures look much grainier, and some of the backgrounds are really bad.

Sound quality is better than I remember it - or rather, some things sound strangely clearer (those rockets you can fly around on, seagull sfx in Metal Harbor.) Most cut scenes (ones that aren’t rendered entirely in game) are upscaled while keeping 4:3 aspect ratio though. Sometimes the 3D models they use in the cut scenes look really shitty for no apparent reason. Like the president and his assistant didn’t have the greatest models, but when you catch up to them the first time with Tails…they look a lot worse. Don’t remember how the voice syncing was handled, but it’s pretty bad in this version (not that it really matters.)

Haven’t played around with online components at all and have barely done anything related to Chao. The GBA / DC MU thing is now just some (oddly generic) Chao deporter for getting rid of Chao, nothing else. Uses a separate save file like other versions, so we can probably hack Chao again. Not sure if the infinite feed glitch works anymore, tried it for like one minute but it’s been a few years and that’s real damn tedious to get back into doing. The Black Market door is there. I dunno if it’s the same or not. Battle mode DLC didn’t mention online and you can’t access the downloadable content tab in the menu despite being allowed to download it through the marketplace (still works, just an oddity.) That being said, they added loading tips, and some mention posting your score to the leader boards. So I guess there is something you can do with online. I recall reading something about Chao garden battles and online but I’m not going to bet on that because I could just be giving myself false hope…

Camera is NOT fixed, and nothing about it was changed (from SA2B.) If it annoyed you to no end before, it’s gonna do so this time too. Load times are reduced to varying degrees (sometimes a lot, sometimes barely noticeable improvement.) Also my memory is really fuzzy regarding the menu themes, but I think they did a couple of changes here. Aside from the obvious DLC and Exit additions, the main menu has been turned into something similar to the beta versions (a simple choice list.) You can still switch the theme out, and pick what character is going to say all the menu related stuff. Just won’t hear some lines and you will see less of your selected background image. Who gives a fuck I guess, but it’s worth mentioning.

its not that hard to incorpoate a matchmaking server for online play especially when the original DC game could connect to the internet…like darklight said…a missed oppurtunity…

if they can add leaderboards they can add online vs…

maybe they where working on a fixed budget…

Sega has been financially distraught for many years now and it gets worse regardless of Sammy helping them. As you may already know Sega shut down many studios worldwide and they not only cancelled some projects but, they also stated they are focusing on core titles only. To expect them to add online to a game that is more than a decade old is hilarious. The only people getting this game are SA2 fans and adding online isn’t going to attract new people or very little. Ask a kid if he wants to play SA2Battle even if it is 10 bucks he or she will probably say no. There was no online multiplayer on the DC. the DC could go online but it doesn’t mean the game was online lmao.

If you understand the way the industry works you will realize why incorporating online is only worth it if they can attract new users. Why set up a server for a 10 dollar game that won’t sell as much as other online titles? I do respect Sega though. Yakuza 3,4 and 5 coming up,Binary Domain,Sonic Colors,Generations,Sega All Stars Racing and the Platinum 5 titles being published have made them a consistent company. Who would have thought Capcom would be outdone by a company struggling financially? I also can’t complain about the HD releases, they have all been great so far. People like to shit on Sega and that’s fine but TBH there are a truckload of companies doing much worse things.

Also I agree that Knux and Rouge levels aren’t that bad, at the end of the day it is Sonic gameplay with all the running and gliding. Plus the levels are super short if you know how to navigate them well and get A ranks. No matter how hard you try, speed running Tails and Eggman’s levels are extremely slow. Lock on shooting has no place in a Sonic game, at least E-102 was faster…lol.

TBH that is too hard for me to do since I like them all lol.

Instead I’ll rate characters from highest to lowest in terms of gameplay:

1.Sonic
2.Shadow (Great levels but I feel the platforming is more solid in Sonic’s levels)
3.Knuckles-Rouge (Can’t really decide but we can all say Rouge’s space level inspired Mario Galaxy lol)
4.Robotnik (Lock-on shooting at least fits his theme but still terrible and I wish you could actually aim)
5.Tails (By far the worst part of this game, should have let tails fly like his incarnation in the Chao garden)

Sonic Adventure 3 was Sonic 06, stop the wishful thinking!

You motherfuckers…

I saw that the title of the thread said “Sonic Adventure 3,” and here I came rushing into the thread because I thought it was announced.

I hate you all

Sonic Adventure 3 isn’t coming, nor should it (or SA4 if we really must call Sonic 06 as SA3).

Go back to the MGR thread, heathen!!

One, I don’t belong to any one thread. Secondly, I enjoy the SA games and even I realize the need to move on from them.

But let’s break this down, what makes a Sonic game a Sonic Adventure game other than the name?

So is the game true 16:9 or just stretched 16:9 like a lot of “HD” remakes?

3d chao garden

Let’s see…

  • Mandatory multiple playable characters; it’s not an adventure if you can only play as Sonic.
  • Vehicles; why run at the speed of sound when you can drive at 80 mph?
  • Guns; not even joking.
  • Upgrades; “If we gave you all the abilities from the beginning it would be too easy.”
  • Lack of Special stages; “don’t worry, we collected the emeralds for you.”
  • Chao puns
  • Grass Stage
  • City Stage
  • Egyptian stage
  • Humans other than Eggman (who is just an egg with a head, stache, and limbs so he doesn’t count).
  • A final battle as Super Sonic.
  • Emblems/Medals; Gotta collect them all if you want the cool stuff.
  • Camera glitches.
  • Skepticism.

Did I miss anything?

you forgot:
-Robotnik isn’t the main threat, it’s a giant monster at the end.
-rolling into a ball makes you slower
-SA2 introduced the “whoosh” noise when you jump as opposed to the “bwoop” sound of SA1/classic series. This still continues in modern games.

edit
I suppose these things aren’t totally exclusive to the Adventure’s/'06 but its definitely a trait that is common in modern games for SOME reason.

And LOOK THE FUCK OUT IT’S A HOMING SHOT SONIC!!!

No, that was Sonic 2006.

No PsychoJosh, it was SA2.
