The Sonic the hedgehog thread V.7 2017 its been generations since the last good sonic game

Finally got my hands on it, the game is definitely fun. But I still have no idea what to think of it. I’m not bothered by his run speed, but the levels are still a lot to get used to.

@Sonichuman

Off topic, but do you know anyone that needs a magfest ticket? I’m thinking of selling mine.

Not off the top of my head. Why ya changing your mind on Magfest?

Variety of things.

Spoiler

1, the idea of spending 4 days at a convention doesn’t sit well with me. If it was one day, sure, but not 4 days. 2, I’m rooming with people I’m going to meet for the first time at the event. Stupid idea. I usually get my own room, with no room mates if I travel. But things have changed in the past year and a half. I make no money at my current job, so I can’t do that anymore. 3, I’m also hitching a ride there. Being at the mercy of the driver isn’t something I want to experience. 4, I’m not fond of nerd conventions. Don’t mean it in a negative way–I’m just not into the convention culture. I was invited by a friend, but I’m not going to be mad as fuck over new year’s weekend just to make someone else happy

I understand…I will say this though. You should at least experience Magfest once. This year may not be too bad to skip out on…I’m kinda saddened that Metroid Metal won’t be there this year since Stemage is going to be in a different band this year but Tommy Tallarico will be there along with some other good music bands plus it’s nice to take a load off and be in a Gamer’s paradise for a few days. I made the mistake of not taking my stick with me last year…I’m not making the same one this year.

100 Rings = 1 UP has been patched in.

wow…didn’t expect that. I’m still making my way through the game on top of everything else I’m playing. So far my impression that the Wii U game is solid is holding.

Also want to say that OCReMix put out a Sonic CD album. I posted my personal standouts in the vg music thread but I’ll copy them over when I get to my comp.

Copy pasta:

I was able to listen to OCR’s Sonic CD album a few times and at first I was put off by a good majority of it since I’m having this weird love/hate relationship with the way how some of the synth sounded in some of the tracks. This is probably the most beat driven album that OCR has probably put out in some time I think. Some of the tracks I felt were kind of off kilter which isn’t bad considering the fact that I think that the JP side of Sonic CD’s ost is kinda weird anyway but for some reason I prefer the JP mixes more than the US ones. Other than that some of the ways how some guys blended the different aspects of each track together into one was awesome. Here’s my personal standouts.

Sega making me not regret my purchase of this game.

Me and my cousin messing around in Sonic 2 for Android:

Pretty cool version of Sonic 2. Tails can fly (!), Knuckles is in (and can glide/climb, but no insta-shield for Sonic boo), there’s a boss rush mode (locked right now), restored Hidden Palace (!!), and hey, it’s Sonic 2, hands-down the best Sonic game ever made.

good lord Mr. Whitehead…I would like to know exactly what you did to make Sonic 2’s special stages that fucking smooth. Seriously that shit look nice! It’s hard to tell from the vid but it almost looks like the redid the half pipe in 3D. I think this is the first time I’ve ever been slightly salty about not having a smart phone.

I believe the half-pipe is 3D now. If it isn’t then they’re doing some keen tricks with whatever Genesis emulation engine they got there.

Dat special zone O.O

Dat Baby Tails.

Played on a Shield connected to a TV via HDMI at 1080p. Noticed two things:

In the half-pipe, in 1080p, you can see the half-pipe drawing in the distance sometimes.

I flew under Hill Top 1’s first gondola for kicks and found a route I never knew existed. It felt like a S3&K Knuckles route, with more spikes than the usual level design, and had a rising lava segment. It eventually reached a hidden passageway leading to a later, more familiar cavern. Did this exist in original Sonic 2?

In Hill Top? Are you talking about the section with the rising lava where you have to jump and make your way back up? If that’s it that’s the only path I’ve ever went…usually I have invincibility on going into that section IIRC.

I also noticed that the half-pipe had pop in from the video you had earlier. It’s not as apparent on straightaways but it is when it’s turning corners after straightaways. The unfortunate side effect of probably having the pipe rebuilt in 3D I guess…

Too bad it’s on a phone. If only they could release those versions for PC so I could play it on a TV with a controller.

There are sections like that in Act 2, but I’m talking Act 1, immediately under the first “whoops I spindashed so now I fell into a giant pit” gondola. I very much doubt Sonic can make it; it would have to be Tails or Knuckles. Unless I’m retarded.

Shield lets you do it. And it looks glorious, let me tell you.

What’s Shield? extremely interested

It’s an Android console. I wouldn’t buy it just for Sonic 2; I have a bunch of games I wanted to play both on it and on my TV and am building a new PC that I can use its streaming features on, so it fits my niche.
