The Sonic the hedgehog thread V.7 2017 its been generations since the last good sonic game

The secret to the Wii-U’s success is so simple, and it’s forever beyond me how Nintendo doesn’t realize it.

Just release some FRESH games for it for Christ’s sake. Not ports, not HD Remakes…NEW titles from their most popular franchises. Metroid, Starfox, Zelda, Kirby, F-Zero, Pokemon…I mean, I know some of these are in the works already. But honestly they should’ve been a long time ago, and I really believe it would’ve made a drastic difference between what the sales could have been and what they are now.

I think a big problem with Nintendo consoles post Wii is that you don’t know what gimmick they’ll use. So you may have the specs but when the hardware is finalized you might have to change certain parts of your game. It also doesn’t help that they don’t have the specs other consoles will have, so limitations become an even bigger factor. Since the main mascots will probably have to show the best of the WiiU gamepad it adds additional dev time. Basically their business model for hardware, by design creates additional delays.

And lets be real, Nintendo games are almost always on point. I’m not a hardcore Nintendo fan but I appreciate their games and what they add to the industry as a whole. Just like you I’m kind of impatient and I want to see what the next Zelda and Mario (Galaxy/64) will be. I will say though that new Mario game looks much VERY innovative in the most recent trailer I’ve seen.

We probably all need a bit more patience but I feel you.

I truly believe if Sonic Lost World came out next year it would sell very well. Right now the WiiU install base is low and when Colors came out…you get the picture.

That doesn’t explain why it didn’t sell on 3DS which is the only healthy system in Japan at the moment (along with PS3, though it’s reached end-of-life and isn’t exactly lighting up the charts). Sonic was never a major seller like Mario and S-E RPGs… but it’s freaking Sonic and it barely sold 4k on 3DS.

I’m unsure of the quality when it comes to the 3DS port. I should probably check out some impressions for that version of the game.

Throwback song of the week

I remember hearing it way back then and was like" oh snap somebody bout to get got!!!" and then eggman proceeds to take the emeralds lol

Wonderful 101 already came out.

Edit: Seems I may have taken your quote out of context you actually were stating that you wanted new titles from their franchises lol. I saw ‘release fresh games’ and instantly thought that you meant new IP. I suppose I see that complaint so often now lol.

So…I just had an interesting moment with Sonic Lost World on the 3DS after toying with it for about 30 minutes…lol. I’m not gonna go too much into it as I’ll save it for when I actually do an impressions write up but the only thing I’ll say about it for now is…Why did Dimps think this was a good idea? lol.

I looked at a sales chart of Sonic games since Saturn. JP sales peaked with Adventure 1 on DC, and plummeted after Sonic Heroes on PS2/GC. I guess Sonic is just dead in Japan. Never realized it was that bad though.

Ah that sucks…wonder how Mario is doing?

Double Post/Bump

DsS just got the world record for Desert Ruin Zone 1.

Some sick skills during the side scrolling sections. 2:08-2:10 was pretty slick. Honestly this game looks solid, just wished it was a little faster.

^ Another cool glitch.

DsS says he likes Lost World and will probably do more speedruns. Maybe even a full playthrough eventually but admits it can improve in a few areas.

lol…@ second vid. You gotta lose at least 2 lives to speed run that section the fastest.

I’ve been trying to play Sonic Lost World 3DS when I can and from what I’ve played so far…it doesn’t feel as good as Sonic Lost World…I’m feeling really meh on it right now. There are times when dimps ideas for Sonic Lost World work pretty well but in terms of controls and feeling the Wii U one feels far better imo. And then there’s the thing that I alluded too the other day…the Special stages. Boy was I in for a treat when I finally reached one of those…and then realized it’s COMPLETELY GYROCENTRIC. I thought maybe I could get away with not having to get out of my seat…but nope that was completely impossible. So when you’re playing the stages you need to have full 360 degree movement IRL in order to complete the stages. I will admit…it’s kinda cool but it’s fucking impractical and I’m surprised NOBODY told Dimps this. The spindash is slightly different in both games where you don’t really need to rev in Wii U before you can do a consistent spin, in the 3DS version you have to hold the spindash for a couple seconds otherwise he’s just go forward a couple of feet and stop regardless of you trying to make it consistent. Then I had some interesting moments in a tunnel vision cave area where I was trying to get a red star coin and the jump was simple…but no matter how precise I tried to get that simple jump it was like sonic was prone to overshoot it because of the way the stage made. Like everything would feel fine as you’re running around and everything would feel consistent but you’d jump for this coin and then suddenly the world shifted underneath you faster than you anticipated for no reason. It’s like it suddenly became super sensitive. I’ll try to provide more thoughts and impressions as I make my way through it.

watching some DSS videos, he literally broke sonic 06 (while its already like that) but he went beyond it, I wonder if he discovered it though, he skipped over half of silver’s story with the town mission glitch

Yeah he is a master when it comes to breaking a game. I’m sure can find new glitches in any game but whats even more crazy is he’s actually good at these games. Even his rusty SA2 playthrough looks pretty damn good.

Annndd he’s nuts:

LOL @ Based Amy

How is Sonic Generations for 3DS? The Steam version is surprisingly not horrible, and when I saw videos of the 3DS version, it looked like the Classic Sonic levels retained Genesis physics. Will it make me rock hard or flaccid? Please describe in vivid detail and include penis references.

i copped 3ds sonic generations on a black friday deal last year for $15. its pretty fun for what its worth. the physics feel fine, sound is great, and some of the later levels have really fun level designs. my personal problems with it is that the level choices are kind of whack, the first 3 classic sonic stages feel next to identical to their genesis counter parts, and getting the bonus missions sucks nuts. you have to spend play coins or meet someone who also has sonic generations on streetpass (which is really, really, hard).

overall its a fun little game. if you can find it for $20 or less then pick it up.

More impressions of Sonic Lost World 3DS:

ugh…seriously there are something about this game where they started out ok and then someone decide to put in small details that went form ‘this isn’t that bad’ to ‘this is frustrating’. I’m actually feeling at the moment that I can’t recommend this game to anyone especially at the $40 price tag. I kinda really just want to put this game down and go back to the Wii U one so it’s not ruining any entertaining part of the story with it’s heavily compressed cutscenes ( in all seriousness…The cutscenes in this game are probably the most compressed I’ve seen of any game on the 3DS that I’ve played so far. 3D off and especially 3D on.) Then there’s the smaller things that irk me like when you’re trying to do some precision platforming in this game and it feels that Sonic randomly overcompensates. When I’m not trying to do any platforming the game feels for the most part ok but when You’re trying to go for jumps at times it feels like he’s suddenly jerked forward and if you move the analog nub a bit to one direction he’s jerked over into that direction. The homing attack and Slash attack feel not as tight and consistent as it does in the Wii U version either. I haven’t really had much of an issue with the multiple lock on system on what I’ve played of the Wii U version but I’m guessing the radius of the homing attack is far too wide in the 3DS one. Big example I can give is what I played last night. There’s a stage where you have to bring back fruit to a juicer in a main room and after putting in the fruit the level rises and more badniks show up for you to take out before moving on to the next room. If you fall in the juice you have a long ass fall down to the bottom where you can hit a spring and go aaaalll the way back up. That wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t for the fact that Sonic would be hitting enemies that I wasn’t really pointing towards. He’d attack the first enemy then attack a second then attack a third all the way at his 5’ o clock that just so happens to have an electric field activated on his body. Rings go everywhere and WWEEEEEEEEEEE all the way down to the bottom I go. And you don’t really have too much control on how many enemies he attacks either. Also while I’m playing the game I’m beginning to realize how much of a bad idea it was from a gameplay perspective to have the bounce attack and the slash attack on the same button. Wii U fixed that by having 3 different options after a jump on seperate buttons. Add this in to the not consistent lock on and it gets annoying when you’re trying to go for a slash attack and Sonic is bouncing instead of doing what he’s supposed too. And WHY IN THE HELL DO YOU HAVE SONIC TAKING 5 YEARS TO GET BACK ON HIS FEET AFTER HE GETS ATTACKED!? My god man, if there’s anything in this game that seem to dread more in this game…it’s accidentally getting hit so Sonic can take a 5 minute breather on his backside. I haven’t found a way to speed up his recovery if it exists yet either. Then there’s the pufferfish enemy under water that shoots fish enemies at you. FUCK that guy. When you homing attack him, they give you an air bubble RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM. I was wondering for minutes why the fuck I was getting hit (he’s a multi hit enemy) when I was attacking him when he doesn’t have spines out. Why couldn’t they have the air bubble come out AFTER you defeat him? And the shit is RIGHT in front of him. Something so unsuspecting was trolling the fuck out of me for minutes. And you wouldn’t even know what was going on because when you attack him Sonic gets out of his ball immediately to suck in air at the exact time the bubble is out so you can’t even see it.

Going to work…I’ll provide more when I can…sigh…fuckin dimps man…

Here’s a speed run from Paraxade0.

Here’s his thoughts on Sonic lost world.

He’s pretty much a Sonic veteran speedrunner and seems very capable in lost world. I find it interesting that he is echoing some of the major complains from reviewers.

DSS also found an infinite wall jump exploit. Also has a few other new speedrunning vids on his channel.
So I guess the general consensus is the game is good but has a few flaws. It still looks fun to me and I saw some footage of the bonus nights content, very nostalgic.

Finally got myself a copy of lost world wii u. Sega really needs to stop using havok for their sonic games. It always causes hiccups in the jumping. I haven’t had much trouble with the controls outside of the wisps. The only negative things I have to say about it are directed towards collecting things. Rings aren’t worth getting since they took away 100 rings = 1-up. Collecting flickies to unlock main levels is aggravating. If it was for hidden levels then it wouldn’t be as bad. The story is alright for it being a sonic game. The cutscenes are probably the least cringe worthy that they’ve ever been in a sonic game. I do think they’re onto something with this formula though. Can’t wait for a sequel.

Also throwing this out there. Most Wii U kiosks have been uploaded with a demo for Lost World so if you happen to see one wherever you are, give it a shot.

Been watching a couple vids and I’m definitely going to find a way to play this game. Every time I see it, it looks like a ton of fun, but I know there are issues. But, but, I need it.
