The Sonic the hedgehog thread V.3-2012 Sonic 4: Episode 2

Unfortunately this is always something I come to expect from Sega, mainly due to their poor performance in servicing the PSO/PSU series.

So far so good though, I haven’t ran into anyone doing anything sketchy thus far. I seem to be more addicted to this right now than speed runs on the console version.

I would love an entire reboot of Sonic. In someone else’s hands.

Sonic 4 was good. :frowning:

Background theme, it said it was going to have one via the demo I played at the end when I finished the demo. I beat the game with Sonic (working on Tails side of the game currently), but no notice of any system theme being unlocked. I gotta double check to see if its already unlocked in my profile. Thanks for the help so far though.

Why? Episode 1 was terrible. Even if it had solid-ass Sonic physics, even if it had not-quite-Sonic-but-still-intuitive-and-fun physics (it has neither), it has classic Dimps level design, which is long tracks of holding Right while occasionally tapping Jump and every once in a while falling into an all-too-prevalent bottomless pit. Seriously, despite some interesting ideas (a mostly waterless Labyrinth, the occasionally entertaining death traps in Mad Gear 3), Episode 1’s level design is merely a grade or two above Sonic CD’s. That’s not a compliment.

Episode 2 hate isn’t “disappointing.” It’s justified. It’s deserved. The first game set a precedent. Being wary of the second until it’s out and very clearly worth a damn is wise, note hateful.

Spitin Troof!

Huh? Sonic CD’s level design was excellent. There were plenty of ways to explore each level while also being able to just rush through them as well. There were also next to no death pits, either.

I dunno man. Wacky Workbench had dumb stuff for every time period.

I disagree, for reasons already stated. Though if you’re curious about said reasons, I hear a very handsome fat man posted about it on his blog…

… It feels odd just ending a post like that. Hmm…

I still have, on the XBL version of S3&K, a save just before Knuckles fights the Marble Garden boss… with Tails’s help.

Yes, that will do.

I think it’s the PS3 version that has an unlockable theme. The only thing I got were the 2 gamer pics.

I like the level design of Sonic CD. Wacky Workbench is pretty nuts, though.

Just about every other stage feels rewarding to run through as you avoid shit in your way. It’s not as straightforward as the Genesis titles, and the stages aren’t as lengthy, either. If Naoto Oshima could’ve had the chance to be in charge of another classic 2D Sonic game, I really wonder how it would’ve turned out. Too bad I never got a chance to play Nights.

NiGHTS is amazing, but incredibly linear.

I like how specs seemingly vanished when Sonic Generations came out and we were raving about it. Now that discussion has changed gears to Sonic 4, he’s back

Also, Chaotix is legit, solely because of This Horizon.

Sooo…both Generations OST’s are supposed to be dropping this month right? I need to be able to listen to the 3DS tracks on the go…had to go to youtube to get some fixes.

Big Arm Boss
Omfg…the ending for this track is so god damn good.

Water Palace/Back 2 Back Modern
love/hate…I don’t know what that is that is being used at :59 but I’m not digging it in comparison to the original

Emerald Coast Classic
slight difference in the way the guitar sounds

Radical Highway Classic
far better than the Modern Version imo

Mushroom Hill Modern
comment in the description says they’re supposed to be released jan 11. Yyyyeeeeessss…

I guess I’ll have to wait till then for a super solid version of Supporting Me…

Wtf video of the day…

Dunno what he needs insurance on, his shoes?

Does anyone else prefer playing this game on a smaller TV ( That would have been average size in the 90s, early 00s). I dunno, when I was playing the game over the holidays on my parents TV I found the classic stages difficult but now things seem to be easier on the eye.

All the speeding he does? I’m sure his payments would be through the roof. That video is random as hell though…but no less awesome.

I am a huge supporter of Sonic games and all but…I rented Sonic Generations for 3DS, and I find it’s pretty bad. I definitely agree with Sonic Hedgehog’s review.

Hm, perhaps I should have put a disclaimer excepting Wacky Workbench lol.

Although, I didn’t mind it too much either.

They posted the Sonic 4 Episode 2 official logo over at the Sega blog: http://blogs.sega.com/2012/01/09/sonic-the-hedgehog-4-episode-ii-official-logo/ Looks like they’re going with the modern designs again but I think that’s what everyone was expecting.
