The Sonic the hedgehog thread V.3-2012 Sonic 4: Episode 2

Man, how do you stand it? I figured out Unleashed was a terrible game by Holoska and finally ragequit it after dealing with the first Empire City Werehog stage for two hours. Eggmanland sounds like pure masochism to me from your posts.

Just the game has some seriously awful level design. It’s like playing a bad rom hack. And for the record, I actually liked the Werehog stages until they started to get as stupid as the daytime stages were :|. My only problem with Werehog was that it wasn’t really the kind of game I signed up to play. Well that and the camera. And the level design.

The level design >_<.

Well, I guess I have Unleashed to thank for laying down the groundwork to Colors. Colors is soooooooooooooo good.

Whoa really? I hope that includes a steam release. That’d be perfect for me.
Still really hyped for that game.

just sounds like ragequiting to me…I enjoy the challenge…I dont want to just hop and skip my through these games…If I had my way every stage would be based off eggmanland…man up…

did silver just make a spirit bomb out of trash??? HAHAHA!

Alice in Wonderland is said to have been made on drugs…and it shows!

On Shrooms and Acid specifically. Great set of books to.

If you thought Empire City was bad… man… for me, Empire City wasn’t that bad and it actually is heaven compared to Eggmanland. You have to do all these balancing acts (I hated tasks like these ever since game designers first thought it was a good idea knowing you’ll be using an analog stick to control it) and in Empire City, the camera for the most part is on your side and if you fall, there’s usually something to grab on. You don’t get that in Eggmanland. What you do get is the game exploiting it’s weak points. You’ll need to move the camera sometimes but you can’t as there will be no indicator jumping from point a to point b (again, no shadow below the Werehog), the camera in some areas is going to move by itself while you’re trying to go straight (and simultaneously trying to avoid moving spike traps) or you fall in lava. I spent a lot of time battling non-stop enemies because it took me a while to realize that I just needed to run from the battle after flipping a switch. I mean… it’s like these robot’s home. Of course I’m supposed to know they’ll keep on spawning, right? >_> There were other areas where I died constantly, but that’s where i remember having the most issues as a Werehog.

But how do I stand it? Honestly, I was on the verge of just watching the rest of the game on youtube just so I can see more pretty Sonic visuals/cut scenes, but that wasn’t enough. I also knew I’d hate leaving the game unfinished. I’ve never hated using Super Sonic so much even after I realized there are rings in the first part to fill his health bar considerably. Aside from the ending, a bit of exp and a chance to run the Dark Gaia battle again, you don’t get anything else but a sense of completion. I also dislike the fact that even though you put the entire world back together, after beating the game, on the map the last piece which is Eggmandland is still floating. There goes my sense of completion. But now I feel content towards having fun in some of the daytime stages and MAYBE tackle other achievements/tasks.

And I also wanna say - wtf Dark Gaia->Perfect Dark Gaia. Perfect Dark Gaia from a visual standpoint just grew 4 skinny arms (that I don’t think he really used) and 6 more eyes.

lol. I guess what Unleashed throws at you is definitely challenging. But it’s not really the sort of challenge I have fun trying to overcome. I don’t really get anything out of constantly fighting the camera in Werehog and constantly losing my momentum/struggling with the slippery controls in Daytime :P. After a point, I was just like ‘I have better games to play than waste my time on this’.

Empire City was less ‘omg this is so hard’ and more like ‘That is my limit’. I had to constantly fight the camera and couldn’t get the right angle to make a leap, things weren’t locking on so I could grab them (why is that even a requirement to interact with something?) and I was sick and tired of dying to that same jump because of shit like that. I knew it got worse from there and I wasn’t having any fun, so I just cut my losses there and went on to a better game XP.

Your continued attempts to get through it make a lot more sense now. Grats on getting through the game in the end, even though it tried to rob you of even that kind of satisfaction once you hit the title screen again :.

Yeah, the game gradually gets worse and in no way, shape or form gets better.

If I were to talk about the good in Unleashed, the concept of the day stages speaks itself. After checking out some speed runs, it makes me wonder if drifting will receive a nerf in Generations lol.

Some of the music is really, really good. Not every track is S-tier, but there are some that are and some that are okay. However, I haven’t heard a good intro theme since the Sonic Adventure series. Even though those games had corny vocal tracks, these new ones just sound so damn soft. (I miss the head-bobbing Live & Learn feel or SA1’s It Doesn’t Matter feel - hell, I’ll take the SatAM cartoon theme). But I really enjoyed the Aptos/Windmill themes and that friend-theme song you get in the credits. There are others but I’m too infatuated to bother looking through other notable tracks for now.

I’m also glad that ever since the Adventure series when Sonic’s appearance had matured with longer legs, less roundish body, longer hair, green eyes, etc. that they stuck with it. Even though he’s looking furrier and furrier with every console generation, him and the cast still appears as sharp as ever and I hope it sticks around as long as it can. A lot of the visuals that you get from your environment are pretty nice and work well with the music.

I’m really trying to find something else I like about the game, but I guess that’s it. Fortunately, putting those three things together does make the game worth playing and to an extent, highly enjoyable. If only there wasn’t so much of it that makes you want to kill someone via headlock + pistol to cranium.

20 days until Generations. Maybe I should buy Forza 4 and get this off my mind? But I’ll be pissed if I see someone with Sonic decals on their car or something. Arkham City comes out next week… but then is Generations in the next 2. Uggggghhhh. I’ve never wanted a Sonic game this bad since Sonic 3. When I saw previews of Sonic 2… I vaguely remember how much I wanted it, but I know I was anxious seeing Tails and seeing Sonic run faster. But 3 seemed more mysterious, probably because of Knuckles. Somehow I knew it was just going to be big and with Generations, I get that same sense of anticipation.

Sega, do not fuck this up.

Final trailer for generations I believe…this is the boss trailer…

perfect chaos looks amazing in motion…

still no word of classic Knuckles…:(…

err doesn’t Modern Knuckles look like Classic anyways? If not, what’re their main differences?

Pretty much same changes as Sonic. Longer legs, color to the eyes, less circular midsection. His changes are more subtle because unlike Sonic, his hair remains pretty much unchanged. They may have given him larger hands but everyone’s hands in most modern art has increased in size probably to balance out being taller.

Early sega and the wii ware one were playable, that being said.

Sonic, he had a good run.

18 days left until Generations.

I ran into something interesting when I decided to read the wiki on Sonic Colors and Unleashed. It’s old news so I wouldn’t be surprised if everyone here knows about Sega’s decision a while back to de-list their titles that have received an average score on metacritic. The purpose being to maintain a good image of themselves in the future as they look forward to shelving good games instead of the lousy ones. Only interesting bit about this is although Unleashed is officially de-listed, it is still very much available on XBL. Now what am I missing here?

On a side note, I decided to look at some speed runs in Colors and noticed that drifting did seem to get nerfed since Unleashed. Although it looked necessary to use in Unleashed to get through daytime stages as fast as possible, it made the game design look rather… sloppy lol. Colors on the other hand looked really neat (only thing about going fast in Colors that I didn’t like was the sense of speed from having a heightened camera, but I’ll gladly take the function over fashion. Besides, this game is really pretty and it’s nice to see a lot of it.)

When I was looking at the modern Chemical Plant demo, I noticed that the camera’s focus was moving during Sonic’s movement (focus becoming closer, adding to the sense of speed.) I’m kinda curious if that’s something situational, or maybe it’s something that was always there in Unleashed that I’m just now noticing? (I know the focus does noticably change when you’re running super fast in 3D and happen to come to a sudden stop.)

Last but not least, yesterday I decided to listen to the Modern Green Hill theme in Generations and at first I was really into it - until it made me start thinking of how much I enjoyed Green Hill Zone in Sonic 1 (my favorite Sonic stage visually/musically/everything)… and real talk - it brought tears to my eyes. I have a 20 year love affair with not just Sonic, but the very thing that sparked that love for this hedgehog. The music - being a remix, made it seem like nothing’s changed. It’s just a pure extension of my appreciation of the Sonic series.

“I am a child.” -Jeremy Clarkson

My computer is acting really dumb right now for some reason and I’m trying to figure out what the problem could be. I’m currently in safe mode and I can’t hear the new trailer. PROFOUND…SADNESSSSS.

I’m also doing something dumb. Sonic Undergound is on netflix and I’ve never fully watched the show…just heard how horrible it was for the most part. I decided to go ahead and watch it for the hell of it on my 3DS while I’m trying to fix this thing and boy oh boy. This show has hilarious for all the wrong reasons. I think I’ve double face palmed 5 times already and I’m only on the 3rd episode. This show is DUMB.

Interview with Sky Sanctuary + Seaside Hill gameplay + Death Egg boss battle

I watched a few episodes of it recently as I never saw it before. Just one of those things that should’ve never been created IMO.

Also saw the last episode of The Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog Christmas Special. That I kinda missed.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN 2 WEEKS?! (Goes to check release date)
OH MY GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
Grr that EU Collector’s edition’s gonna be costly but…I
WANT
IT

SPOILER WARNING!
Some gameplay vids of Sky Sanctuary and Seaside Hill among others-

I have only this to say:
Oh my god
OH MY GOD
OH MY GOD

Yeah, I want the EU collector’s edition. I wonder why it’s exclusively for there and not in other areas of the world?

I decided to play through Sonic 2 and I remember now why it’s my least favorite between 1 through S&K. The special stages! I hate the special stages in this game so much simply because Sonic’s jump in this mode is sooooo damn floaty. Though back then, I always remembered the codes to the stage select menu and for Super Sonic (I’d occasionally forget the debug code. Simply because I used it more in 1 than in 2). I’ve never collected all the emeralds in 2 but I’m going to try it.

Also, I never liked using Sonic & Tails. Sonic only. :3

Good, cuase getting all the emeralds is impossible with Tails there…I love the little guy…but he’s a retard. :stuck_out_tongue:
