Hahaha a Crash Course at Nintendo eh? That would probably benefit a lot of developers for multiple reasons.
Eggmanland wasnt that hard, it was just long as hell…and boring…it tested your reflexes
god im glad this thread is nothing like the neogaf sonic thread…(no offense Tizoc) nothing but endless bitching with no logic behind it…
Yes. Eggmanland is the stage in that picture. I’m sure my second playthrough of it will be much shorter.
Honestly, after playing just a few 3D Mario games, I once was at a point of thinking Nintendo could do a much better job with Sonic than Sega’s been. Sega was just on some shit in the last decade. Reminds me of that one video review of Sonic R. It’s actually much funnier after playing Unleashed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PQc_S-FPi0 (but I DID love the music in Sonic R - it was the best thing about Sonic R that didn’t belong but was still great.)
I still have no less faith than before that Generations is going to be awesome.
I’m honestly not a huge fan of Nintendo’s work with Mario in 3D (or Mario in general lately). Mario used to be classified with the idea that they where easy to pick up and play without a ton of confusion or difficulty in grasping it’s concepts, while still being challenging to play. New Mario games, especially the 3D ones are fucking hard. All the stages tend to be huge ass fucking pits, the camera’s are tough to work with, and Mario controls so fucking slippery now. Mario slides all over the fucking place in 3D, has the longest stop slide ever, no lock on type of system (not even a soft lock) makes combat a chore. I’m really not a fan of 3D mario. Like the tight, responsive controls went right out the window. I hate it lol. Only new 2D mario i played was New Super Mario Wii, and it was fun but only because I played friends stoned out of our minds and we killed eachother more then anything else did. If i had been sober it would have been frustrating as fuck. Also the level design didn’t seem all that creative or inspired either so.
Sonic Generations is apparently coming to PC for about $30?
Also whoa @ your post Radiant. That’s the first time I’ve heard that many complaints with what Nintendo has done for Mario in 3D. Anyone else feel the same out of curiosity?
What’s weird about those 3DS camera pics you can take too. The actual file is only 640x480. So does that mean all the pics are just stretched widescreen too? Even the 3D pics you can take? Just have been wondering this for a while. Plus how the screen gets darker when you use 3D mode.
Also my eyes just usually see another image coming out of the original in 3D mode. I just see something coming out of the right side. And wondering how this will effect me playing the 3DS version of Sonic Generations. I guess it’s just a case of I can’t see any of the 3D right. I do have a lazy left eye.
2D platformers are by far my favorite genre (my favorite games are sonic 2, 3, and SnK in that order =P) but I’m surprised anyone can say that many negative things about 3d marios mostly due to the fact that mario64 showed everyone else how to execute a 3d game and is one of the most influential games ever made.
IMO SMG2 is just as good as any 2d mario but generally speaking the 3d marios as different as they may be mechanically still retain what made the mario games fun in the first place.
Heh, i didn’t expect any one to agree with me you know. i do think I’ve brought up some valid points tho.
If there’s one more complaint i could add tot he list, it’s that i don’t like how the newer games revolve around collecting some object while running the same board multiple times, but that’s more a nit pick then a real complaint, the boards tend to be pretty big with each collectible taking you to new sections of the board so yea.
Edit:
Mario 64 was great for the time, cuz as you said, it showed everyone how it’s done, but nintendos done nothing to actually improve on the base formula. Mario controls exactly the same as he did now as he did then. Really slippery, sloppy, and slide-y, and no way to actually be super effective in combat. This all runs polar opposite of old 2D Mario games, where the controls where tight, responsive, and smooth. Boppin Goombas and Koopas was easy to do and if you fucked up it was your fault. Half the time i lose damage in 3D mario it’s cuz his slide stop is 5 feet long and i crash into something (Heaven forbid i be on fucking Ice.) All they’ve done is rework whatever the gimmick of the game was. For Sunshine it was the water pack (that they stole from you from time to time) and Gravity. Mario still controls all over the place tho.
I only played Galaxy 1 so I can’t comment on Galaxy 2. I’m glad I’m not alone in this thought process in some form tho.
I actually feel the way you do about the first Super Mario Galaxy. It was suuuupper sloppy imo.
2nd was infinitely better and one of my favorite wii games.
3 more weeks left til we find out if Sonic Team is off their drug habit. Still counting the days left.
I’ll be to busy bustin up Batmans Rouges Gallery, but I’m interested in peoples impressions.
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion at all. I never saw Mario’s controls as slippery and sloppy since Mario generally sticks his jump if you’re making sure the analog stick is in the neutral position before he lands. I did long jumps on the mushrooms in Tall Tall Mountain in 64 and doing that pretty much kills his momentum and it’s the same way in the Galaxy games. I was wondering if any felt the same way because more than likely if you did there was a good chance that someone else felt the same way too.
LOL I remember when I first played that level the way you execute it like holding down the z button or something and seeing mario launch over gaps and than come to a screeching halt was so weird to me at the time.
Is SG coming out on all platforms simultaneously? I’m kinda more hype for the 3ds one.
As of currently Sonic Generations 3DS doesn’t have a tied down date. You would think it would get released at the same time but at the moment it doesn’t sound like that’s the case. I might release in Dec.
I wish there was a date for Sonic CD.
EDIT: just went to eggmanland again and it sent me straight to the first boss (before dark gaia). thank goodness i dont have to run the entire thing back again.
some new screenshots got released
STOOOP! IT’S NO USE!! TAAAAAKE THISSS!! STOP! IT’S NO USE! TAAAAKE THIIISSSS! STOP! IT’S NO USE! TAAAAAKE THIIS!!!
Wow, they call this Super Sonic in Unleashed? Sonic could smash through meteorites in outer space (granted it slowed him down) and take hits from some bombs and whatever. You mean to tell me if he RUSHES into a chunk of earth 3 times, he’s finished? Dumb to the very end lol.
I really should’ve just waited until Generations or got Colors.
Unleashed Wii had you playing Punchout for part of the final boss sequence.
Edit:
Take note I’m not saying that playing punchout for the final boss sequence in Unleashed was horrible but it’s definitely one of those things that gets filed under ‘How the hell did this get pass the round table discussion?’
Wow. This experience has paid off by mostly being reminder on why drugs are bad for you. On my second try/last life vs perfect dark gaia and I know for a fact that the final boss in Sonic Heroes was 10x better than this. It had to be. I refuse to believe that it was as bad as this.
Hey Drugs have created some of the greatest products known to man. They’re almost impossible to come across in Japan to. I’d almost file this under “And drugs where sorely missed.”
