Got to stage 7 so I can practice. It’s a cool final stage but it’s really hard. Winning by time over is for chumps though!
I’m tired of the floaty control in this game though. I hate when all I want to do is nudge myself over and I can’t. It’s annoying when dealing with stage 4 and 6’s laser grids.
Finally got my psp fixed. So far only have Gradius Collection, Darius Burst, and Giga Wing. Gonna be grabbing Thunderforce IV and R-Type Delta pretty soon. Anyone ever play Giga Wing 2 and Generations? And I totally forgot, was the PSX port of Donpachi any good?
Stage 7 in Strania? Don’t you have to beat the boss before you can practice?
I got to him once and he jumped right up, slashed me and that was the end.
Too busy with Mamoru-kun PS3 to play Strania at the moment but I will eventually take on Hard. Too many shooters recently, fuck…waiting to hear impressions on Eschatos and Bullet Soul.
I’ll wait to hear your impression of Bullet Soul before I decide to get it. I chose Eschatos over it. My copy just shipped a little over an hour ago and I’m hoping to have it by Saturday, so I’ll give my impressions once I play it
I’m back. Looks like me and my computer both got shot by a virus. The amount of throwing up I’ve been doing I could be my own shooter. TRASHBLASTERS: Project Starhammer Nothing you have ever played will prepare you for THIS. it feels like I had infinite ammo cheat code from thursday till today. My trashcan was the last boss and it was constantly getting shot. Hopefully I’ll be fine by tonight and I’ll return to getting shot.
Heh. I stay screwing up, so I will laugh at myself. Sometimes, it isn’t laser cannon that does the trick, but a fun gun.
I like this question. I might have to start making updates in the thread with this kind of info. Everybody deserves to get shot and know where to go to do it.
Bangai-O HD is out May 4th. Perfect timing for me, I’ll be done with university forever and can finally dedicate some time (more than the hour a week I get now) to getting shot. Hopefully Eschatos arrives tomorrow so I can get a quick play before finals come up.
As for my quick impressions of the gameplay, if the camera angle literally didn’t get me killed at Area 20, I’d give the game a 10/10. Other than the perspective angle changing and making it really hard to dodge (it’s really Area 11-20 that I had this particular problem), this game is very solid and straightforward. Switching between Wide Shot, Forward Shot and Shield is seamless and never seems like a hassle.
Now as for the WonderSwan games, JSS is easily the better of the two. Cardinal Sins has some weird background color schemes going on since you’re fighting around planets and such…but it’s borderline VirtuaBoy on a couple of them, to the point where you almost can’t see the bullets. I do like the concept of dying and not having a game over, since you play through the Seven Deadly Sins aka ‘Areas’ and get grades for each individual one. My lowest grade was an F since I lost all my lives
Judgement Silversword…wow. I cannot find the words to express this game. If you get the chance to play it, PLAY IT. I initially thought it was gonna be a cakewalk to survive, but I was quickly proven wrong. I made it as far as Area 13 or so before I called it quits.
Overall I’m very glad I made the purchase
Now I’m still on the fence with Bullet Soul…
^Oh you knew it was going to be the shit from the moment you saw that trailer and heard that music. I aim to cop it in June. Not having it now gives me more time to focus on other shmups like Strania and Guwanage and other games like Portal 2, MK9, Bangai-O HD, LA Noire, Dirt 3, and EDF Insect Armageddon (order of release).
And if for some reason you miss getting the free soundtrack it has a full release scheduled for May.
Guys who own Eschatos, it’s only sample soundtrack right?
You can spend forever on Hard Corps. I hope it sold (sounds like it did) and Konami green lights a sequel. The first improvement that they should make are the special actions. Ambush Shot and Sayuri’s palm thrusts are two examples of kinda cool but useless maneuvers. I think that Arc System should study Treasure’s Alien Soldier (in that game everything mattered).
Honestly I think all the special actions are really good. Ambush shot gets way more use in the last few stages, but if you’re trying to speed run it’s fine as it is anyway really. Only thing I would do is give ambush shot a bigger hitbox and maybe piercing qualities. Either that or make them fire a free grenade so that it can kill bunched up enemies.
I actually found myself using bullet dodge the least since we have reflect.
Also palm thrust has invincibility so it’s basically a free attack. I have a harder time remembering to use the combo actually lol
Yeah, I really wanted those, it’s also missing the last couple stage themes too.
But yeah, Eschatos is fucking incredible. I haven’t put a lot of time into JSS or CS yet, but the main game is really good. The perspective changes take some getting used to, but I can work around them now. I’m working on trying to 1CC Original mode on Normal difficulty, but man, things get nuts starting after area 12. I managed to get to Area 20 on one credit, then just got utterly destroyed. Decided to use the credits I had available to see how far I could get (had 4 at the time), and got up the final boss before biting it completely.
Hoping my copy of Bullet Soul arrives this week. Initial impressions from people on shmups and cave-stg are mixed, the main problem being that the “souls” literally do nothing except make the bullet patterns harmless when you kill the enemy that fired them. I’ll give my impressions when I get my copy.
Yar’s Revenge is on XBLA this week. It’s an on rails 3D shmup like Panzer Dragoon. It’s 800 points. Taking me awhile to get a hang of it but it looks like it has potential. A poor man’s Sin and Punishment perhaps. I’ll get it when it goes on sale. Not because I don’t think it’s fun but because I have enough games to play as it is.
