I also got Mushihime in the mail yesterday. Broke down and bought it, and I am glad I did. How much extra effort does it take for companies to keep their games region free? Hopefully the next system(s) take a hint from the PS3 and the portables and quit with the region locking. Not sure what locking out potential buys accomplishes.
Speaking of Galaga, I love playing 90’ (TG16 and Wii VC). I’m actually better at that than other shooters, but it was one of the first shooters I know of that I played. That and Twin Cobra for the NES.
Anyway, isn’t Darius Burst coming out tomorrow?
Edit: Version 1.0 of indie shooter Genetos is out. Haven’t played it before, but it looks pretty good.
DariusBurst - really fun. Kind of short and straightforward, and it’s far from the best Dairus game. But it’s classic hori shooting with a great soundtrack and a ton of shit to unlock.
Dust off that PSP! Import it or hope for a localization.
So whats the buzz with mushihime sama? Whats the secret?
Is it constant replaying? Should I focus more on peripheral vision or stare at my hit box?
The one thing I am starting to recognize more often is patterns and try to associate a specific bullet graphic to a path, so that i’m actually seeing paths of 3-5 different bullet types instead of seeing a giant mess on the screen.
Is it possible to adjust accordingly regardless of where you are when things happen or should you have to plan ahead constantly?
I see these guys play and they are simply put, amazing. I just can’t grasp what it is that makes them tic. Am I really supposed to get wrecked until something just “clicks”?
Hmm, a lot of it is repetition and getting the hang of the levels and bosses. You definitely get better the more you play, but sometimes there are days when it’s just “not working”. I usually quit then and go at it another day. If I feel I made a breakthrough I keep playing and see if I can make another one. If I can’t then I try to remember the lessons I learned about the game that day and then call it quits.
Really it’s all about making a secure pattern, especially on the original bosses. I have a very good idea of what I’m going to do when I come into a fight with a boss and if something goes awry I try not to react with a bomb but realize that I fucked up and that I’m going to need one, then bomb appropriately.
In that sense, shooters like Mushi are similar to SF in a way: if you let your opponent control the match, you will be overwhelmed. The best offense is a strong defense, and if you get cornered use openings to get out, or don’t get suckered into a dumb move and get clipped. Play conservatively.
To get the 1CC on Maniac 1.5 for Reco I wound up planning my way through the game in terms of where and why I would bomb, then calculating how many lives/bombs I had on the end boss. I got there with an extra life actually, and that helped beat her.
Ultimately that may be me just having too much time on my hands but it helped.
For the levels themselves, make sure you’re taking out small enemies before large enemies in almost all cases. The exceptions are the caterpillars on stage 4 which are so hard for Reco to kill you basically have to just sit on them with laser at some points.
Would yall mind posting pictures of your setups or telling me how close you sit to the screen? I feel I’m sitting either too far away or too close and can’t find a good distance between concentrating on my hitbox and seeing bulletpatterns from the very top of the screen in Mushihime Futari.
Hmmm…looks like Markman made an interesting post on Neogaf:
Specifically:
Interesting wording…methinks a Madcatz Death Smiles stick perchance?
Also:
If you play Lv. 3 difficulty 4 times in the game, it activates counter bullets that enemies fire when they die for the rest of the game. Makes it EXTREMELY difficult. Your familiar can absorb the counter bullets, but managing the positioning of the familiar so you don’t get hit is tough.
