The shooter games thread returns! The Empire Of Ammo says, EVERYBODY GETS SHOT!

idk if any1 is as excited about this as me but gunbird 2 has and still is my favorite game for dreamcast! i guess its gonna be like an hd remix like super turbo, which im cool with but they really dont need to do that. Its just nice to know i can have it on psp.

Wow, thatā€™s total bullshit man, sorry to hear about that. Glad you have a back-up though, just in case.

Re: the stage 2 boss, heā€™s really easy, you just need to have your strategy worked out in advance.

What I do:

First pattern, dodge left and right accordingly
Second, start from the far left, dodge right past the first two danmaku then dodge left for the last one. Adjust for the subsequent purple bullet spam (bomb if necessary)
Third, start from far right, dodge left, boss should die before you have to use a bomb.

In 1.5 itā€™s almost true. But Maniac difficulty ramps up at stage 4. Actually, stage 4 is probably the toughest stage in Maniac: stage 5 is pretty manageable.

wow that artwork looks terrible.

Old Psikyo games are nice and all, but whereā€™s my effing Takumi collection. Giga Wing 1, 2 and Generations, Mars Matrix, Tiger Heli 2 (or whatever it was), and Night Raid. Thatā€™s what Iā€™m talking about.

I am really bad at Galaga, stupid bad. I feel dumb for being bad at it, I can swim through a sea of bullets and hot firey death but when 4 bullets and a bee fly down from the screen I am totally fucked!

gotta fake enemies out in galaga

I feel like I need to buy at least 2 copies of every CAVE shooter, for fear of them becoming too expensive to justify buying again later, should something happen.

Buy them while theyā€™re cheap (even though they arenā€™t).

Thanks for the tips. Iā€™ll see how it goes.

Speaking of bombs, do you ever use them in NO MISS runs?

Since I know that bombs lower your score/multiplier, I NEVER use them, regardless of how much bullet spam there is.

Are Original and Maniac runs possible without the use of bombs?

Staying as close to the enemy right before they die triggers the green gems, right?

Iā€™ve always wondered why I only get about 4200 on the OC on Stage 1 and I see people get like 6200+. Green Aura gems most likely.

Oh, ok. Good to know.

Although obviously I try not to use bombs as much as I can, I definitely used them in all of my All-clear runs. 1.5 Original is very forgiving when you use a bomb, taking only a little off your overall counter (but more off your stage counter). I think that bombs lower the counter less than dying, so itā€™s important to use them right when youā€™re about to die.

Iā€™m pretty sure people have no-missed, no-bombed Original and Maniac, so yes itā€™s possible. But for me shit starts getting pretty hairy around stage 5 in Original and stage 4 in Maniac.

Re: green gems, yeah you have to be fairly aggressive around enemies and grab the green gems right as they spawn for them to be worth the most. But honestly it only makes a huge difference in your score on later stages, so it isnā€™t worth going for green gems every time. This could get you killed and trap you in an endless loop of stage 1 and 2 as you try to optimize your score on what are, in the end, pretty low scoring stages.

My mish-futari 1.5 came in the mail today!.. i never owned a cave 360 game b4 but man the features are amazing, replay, trainging, infinite countinues if u want, and all the difficulty modes. Def, one awesome package! if people didnt buy it yet, u mite want to pick it up, its a shooters dream

Dude, since you said you never owned a cave shooter, let me tell you this.

  1. congrats. you are gonna be one happy camper.
  2. get ready to test your reflexes. I mean, justā€¦DAMN! youā€™re gonna be ducking about a THOUSAND bullets per second. And thatā€™s just stage 1. Good luck and happy hunting.

-Starhammer-

Coincidentally I just received mine as well through the mail.

I only got to play up to stage 3 but Iā€™m extremely happy with the game.

I felt like I was buying this game blind folded. Sure Iā€™ve seen a lot of movies of the game, but actually playing it for myself in person made me totally glad I bought it.

The customizations and game modes, on top of multiple screens for delayed play lets you see that Cave put some work into this.

It looks great on my 42" HDTV. Thankfully I have the option of turning off the video enhancements that produce input lag that plague a lot of HDTVs these days.

Yeah, I got a chance to play this on a 720p projector at our local weekly fighter nights, and it looked amazing. Iā€™m working on getting my 360 hooked up to an Astro City cabinet I recently got, for authentic (or as close as I can feasibly get to it) arcade action:rock:

dude my girlfriend acctually plays futari with me! thats how good the game is, and she hates video games. i hope cave region frees every game in the future

If you guys need achievement translations for Futari:

thanks a lot for the link, i was wondering what the achievements were in english lol

So I just found out that ESPGaluda II will be coming to the 360 in February. No region-free release announced yet.

So I decided to see what it looks like. Game looks dope.

play-asia has espgaluda II for preorder, but it says it has a region lock on it. Idk if thats def or not. But i hope its region free, i acctually loved esp ra.da. idk if that is a prequel to it or not but that game was awesome

EspGaluda II is basically another sequel to Esprade, but has a very different scoring and game system.

I am calling this one as region-locked, sorry guys. I think we would have heard something sooner. A friend of mine is going to the CAVE matsuri this weekend and plans to ask Asada, so maybe weā€™ll get the final word there.

Ultimately Deathsmiles is getting localized, so maybe EspII and Mushi too? Dunno for sure.

Also, if you have a J360 and youā€™re gonna pick up Esp2, be warned that itā€™s really one of CAVEā€™s toughest. Awhile back we rated the difficulties of the CAVE games over at cave-stg and it came up pretty high on everyoneā€™s lists:

http://www.cave-stg.com/forum/index.php?topic=257.0

At the time, they were using the non-locked mushi to gauge overseas players, then theyā€™d make the decision to localize EspII.

I think it would be cheaper for them to just release the games unlocked and get whatever sales they can rather than region-lock and spend the extra cash translating and reprinting. Does anyone of us really think ESPII would sell that many copies in the US?

Any else here played / play Galaga Legions for XBLA? Iā€™ve had the game for a while but havenā€™t seen that much love for it anywhere.
