The shooter games thread returns! The Empire Of Ammo says, EVERYBODY GETS SHOT!

Anyone play deathsmiles for xbox360?

Seems like a fun game.

been playing gunbird 2 with my new seimitsu stuff, iā€™ll probably start playing batrider again too

shivers gunbird 2, bullets are way too fast for me to keep up.

Anyone ever play L.A. Machine Guns? I think I am the only person in the world who remembers how AMAZING that game is.

You had me scratching my head until I did a search. Looks like a cool lightgun game. Itā€™s too bad the only crap you can find locally is either police trainer or cheezy hunting game ā€œxā€

Anyone got a direct email address for someone important and influential at Capcom? I really would like to encourage them to do an HD port of Progear for PS3. Considering the game is pretty much the nicest looking and most fun horizontal shootemup EVER, an HD port would be godlikeā€¦

Come on Capcom, CAVE is making money releasing their shooters on 360. Do us PS3 owners a favorā€¦

sigh If only it wasnā€™t region-locked :frowning:

Dude, that game was my SHIT at Dave and Busters. Niggas flying around on hoverbikes, blowing up mecha commandos, rescuing the president from giant airships, preventing Alcatraz escapes, trying not to shoot civilians in Las Vegas, and that epic ass final battle over Death Canyon. All for about 5 dollars or so

Yeah that gun was ill. The weight and recoil (didnā€™t it recoil?) were too cool. Iā€™d love to revisit that game in virtual reality.

Iā€™m honestly here to talk about Space Invaders Infinity Gene akaā€¦
0_0 +
for the iPhone/iPod Touch

Itā€™s not your original space invaders.

Itā€™s not even extreme.

BUT

Itā€™s fucking tight as hell.

While Extreme was pretty fucking tight with a deepish scoring system and uber cool twists on the gameplay, Infinity Gene is like another beast entirely. It moves out of the realm of classic space invaders pretty fast. First level barely even finishes before you go to the next one and you evolve (Gene) with experience points from playing. By the third level you are shooting rapid fire and enemies are flying around a lot more than usual.

Then they go and do something big.

They let you move the fuck around everywhere.

AND.
OH.
MY.
GODā€¦

It turns into a bad ass shmup for real. With bosses, giant non space invader looking mofos dropping in. You get different guns. Fucking, levels get walls in them and shit. Man this shit is crazy (for Space Invaders and the iPhone/iPod Touch). But itā€™s still totally SI. Game has 38 stages and Hard difficulty being unlockable. So far itā€™s easy. I mean Iā€™ve died but half time itā€™s out of something being new and not knowing how to respond to it. Controls are actually really well done. There is an autofire option and movement is done based on where your finger moves and not your ship following your finger. Like one stage I kept my right index in the upper right hand area of the screen where there was less action going in that level and from there I controlled the ship. So I could still see what was coming at my ship. And thar be bullets, beams, explosions, to get you shot thatā€™s for sure. But itā€™s such a damn slick game.

Just damn. I wish everyone could play this.

Raiden IV is out next month. Who is getting it? Itā€™s too rich for my blood at $40 with NO online co-op. Get the fuck out of here with that. $30 would be fine though.

Yeahā€¦ thatā€™s a gun game. Itā€™s still the shit though. Especially with the subwoofer stand that makes you feel every explosion. The closest thing to a home port is Time Crisis 4, which jacked LAMGā€™s gameplay/camera in certain stages.

Back on topic, Iā€™m hyped for DariusBurst. Itā€™s probably as close as weā€™ll get to another Border Down. I think I read Zuntata is working on the sdtk.

Yes. Gunbirdā€™s bullets are fast, but not impossible. Trust me.

L.A.Machine guns was one of the best. I only got to play it once or twice before getting shipped off to Japan where it didnā€™t exist. I think if I were to get my wish of a custom cabinet made, I would have one of those guns mounted to the T-Mek cabinet if not an entire cabinet with seats and those guns. Charging nukkas just to TOUCH the damn thing, much less play. Gameplay wise, I used to love picking off some of the dumbest shit like rockets with a machine gun. Fuck yoā€™ armies nukka!!! I kill everything!!

Zuntata >>>>>>>> All the shit theyā€™re playing on radio for the past five years. You know this is the truth.

Paid it off in full the other day. You should get the game anyway to support them bringing more shooters over to the US. $40 beats paying 70+$ plus shipping for an import copy.

Hey TV, just got your PM. My shooter recommendations on 360 are:

Deathsmiles and Mamoru-kun wa Norowaretteshimatta.

The latter is not great and I havenā€™t had the will to get all the achievements yet but itā€™s a pretty good game. I recommend it over the currently crippled version of Dodonpachi Daioujou. If Dodonpachi Daioujou gets the proper patch that itā€™s being promised then that will definitely be worth buying, but for now I wonā€™t recommend it.

Future-wise, Mushihimesama Futari and EspGaluda II Black Label are going to be amazing. Absolute must-buys.

Iā€™m really hyped for a new shooter for the DS-i called Aaa! Mujou, Setsuna! which was built by the Ketsui DS team.

Thereā€™s some info here:

Apparently itā€™s being published by Nintendo so you guys in the US may see it sooner or later. As it is, fucking DSi DLC games are region locked, so even though itā€™s out next week US players would have a hard time getting their hands on it.

Arcade-wise Iā€™ve been playing Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu, Deathsmiles 2 and Senko no Ronde II.

Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu is clearly the best pachi game ever made. It has a pretty quirky system that can be frustrating when youā€™re first learning it, but it gets rewarding fast. Getting full chains through Stages 3 and 4 is an awesome feeling. This game is definitely in my top 5 CAVE games, right up there with Futari.

Deathsmiles 2 is on the other hand, probably one of CAVEā€™s worst games and yet it is still very fun to drop a coin in and mess around with. The scoring is very similar to Deathsmiles, except in this version you use the lock shot to kill enemies and then drag suicide bullets around the screen until cancelling them to cash in for big points.

Senko no Ronde II is definitely a big advance over SnR. However, I kind of suck at the game and can only beat intermediate level players. Everyone else seems to have tons of experience in SnR I and uses that to their advantage. Characters like Fabian and Shinobu seem way overpowered. When I stop by Hey! in Akihabara to play this game, people are just demolishing each other on a level totally different from my local arcade. Still working on thisā€¦

Time Crisis is one of my favs.

Nope, try again.

Well if Taygetta tells me to get Raiden IV, then Iā€™ll get it. But do I go for a cheaper price on Amazon or Gamestopā€™s preorder gifts. Hmmmm.

EDIT: SO I go to Amazon and see that it says ā€œRaiden IV Limited Editionā€ and has a picture of the soundtrack disc with it. Yes. I get to burn Gamestop again. Too bad the game has been delayed till OCTOBER 18th. sigh So after Amazonā€™s discounted price of $36.99 I used a $5 general credit that Amazon gave me since they didnā€™t give me my $5 mp3 credit. And then $3.70 because of my ECA membership. Comes out to $28.29. Consider my support pledged!

Taito what console! I love Darius, especially G-Darius (it was my first and it had Alpha/Beta Beams) and I must know more!

PSP! Nowā€™s probably a good time to dust yours off.

havent been playing shmups very often. I am enjoying Android Assault for the SegaCD and Thunderforce 4. I want to go back and play some Esp ra de or Dodonpachi or something.

 ^ What he said. Darius taught us that fish are NOT just food, theyā€™re intergalactic fiends worthy of battle.

and thatā€™s how it is. For the record, silver hawk is my fave. Best fish battles ever.

For 6blue, I did hunt down the game brave blade. Good find. I played it and got a feel for the style, then I went on the hunt for similar games. I am sorry to report at this time I have no other game that is similar to that one in terms of gameplay. However, I am now gonna have to beat it because I got shot in the face on the first stage. I ainā€™t letting that slide!!!

-Starhammer-

Iā€™ve been playing a lot of the old-school shooters lately, namely Grind Stormer and Star Soldier for Gamecube. These games donā€™t fuck around.

Good job finding Brave Blade. You may also want to check out Dimahoo.

while not quite a shooter in a sense, there is still copious amounts of shooting.

I beat ghouls and ghosts, 100% through the second loop.

worship me.
only took like, 200 continues to do it. I will strive to at least get it down to 100 next time!
