The shooter games thread returns! The Empire Of Ammo says, EVERYBODY GETS SHOT!

I used to be even on the two, but I go more for the pads now. I think it’s mainly because I’ve been playing with them at home so much now. On the games where I can switch between the pad and the joystick on my controller, I’ve found that I seem to have better control with the pad. how about you?

Halo 2 anyone?

PM me your GT’s

well, I’ve never played halo 1 or 2, but maybe I’ll grab them when I get an X-Box.

Nigga you know you wrong. GTFO with that garbage. You know this is the balls to the wall SHMUP thread. Not the FPS thread.

So far, stick has caused premature deaths. The reaction time is just different since a stick is almost like an analog device, your natural inclination is to shift a little to move a little but that’s not the case of course. With a pad, especially a milky buttery smooth saturn pad, pressing the direction gets you just that but like I said before, you don’t have immediate fingertip access to your buttons.

So, I know that the Irdion games on the GBA aren’t the world’s greatest shooters (althoug II was pretty good), and Nanostray almost blew complete chunks (instead it blows mini chunks), seems Shi’en will be making a Nanostray sequel. They could go two ways with this.

Drop the weapon select system from the first game and use both screens for action and make the weapon balance tighter. Add more gallery art, alternate versions of stages, and Wi-Fi co-op play (the multiplayer in the first game was actually a lot of fun).

OR

Go back to Irdion 3D and try making a 3D shooter again (might as well try since Star Fox works).

Does anyone remember Dodonpachi (sounds like Heihachi’s long lost Cousin or something)? It was an incredible vertical shooter for the arcade back in '97,that featured tons of enemies, far too many bullets to count, and kick ass rock music (especially the boss theme!) I’ve heard rumors that there was a sequal for the PS2 made in Japan, is that true?

Yes, I have it.

The series goes like this:

Donpachi
Dodonpachi
Dodonpachi II
Dodonpachi Daioujou

The first was ported to the Saturn and Playstation, the second to the Saturn, the third was arcade only, and the last was the one you’re talking about, ported to the PS2. You can pick it up at play-asia for about 70 dollars.

As for the name, Donpachi’s literal translation is “leader bee”, whereas Dodonpachi translates to “angry bee boss” and Dodonpachi Daioujou to “Angry Bee Boss. Peaceful Death”(or something to that effect), but it’s also supposed to mimic the sound of gunfire.

Eh, I totally forgot about this thread. Sorry for not answering the impressions question.

Anyway, yes, it’s a brilliant game, but honestly damn hard. I counted. It took me 42 credits to finish the game. Yeah, I suck at this game.

I like the second fire thing though. Really cool. Fave character is the red flame guy, like his effects the most. Not too sure on the differences between different characters though, but I assume the usual focused but powerful, spread but weak thing applies here too.

no problem. I didn’t count how many credits it took the first time around, but I will next time. yeah, that thing is HARD when you try to dodge bullets and save bombs. still, it’s a great looking, great handling, and overall great shooter.

I just got a new cellular talking device and I wanted to know what you guys thought about the “shooter” scene on cellys.

Seems like they are the last place that shmups will thrive. I’m gonna download Alpha Wing 2 and Metal Slug Mobile eventually. Personally, i think it’s great that shmups are on cellys and hope in a year or two, cell phones can take multi button inputs.

Try XII Stag. It’s the prequel to Trizeal, PS2 only.

I picked it up on Ebay for $9.30 shipped.

Man, all these shooters make me want to get a modded PS2 or a Japanese PS2. If only I can find one cheap.

Anyone play Contra: Shattered Soldier? Last Contra game worth giving a damn about, IMO.

lol. your sig is perfect for this thread. I hadn’t played the game until after I had already seen your sig, so it was better when I saw it in the game. keep on shooting ladies and gents.

Just a heads up…Do Don Pa Chi is also hard, and lots of fun. Think of it as Giga Wing without shields and you’ll get an idea of the kind of shit that this game throws at you.

Dodonpachi Daioujou is the only one that’s really hard.

The first one, Donpachi, I got through the first two levels without being hit, and Dodonpachi wasn’t much worse.

Hey I’ve got this weird problem and I was wondering if I could get some help,

I have like 20 or so shooters in my collection, amongst those are a coupld Psikyo titles (Gunbird and Strikers 1945 to be exact) and I was wondering why is it that I can practice them day in and day out and for some reason not get ANY better at them? Is it just cuz I’m not l33t enough to cram the ginormus hit box thru the tiny little holes?

Downloaded exceed 2 just cause I havent played Ikaruga before but have always wanted to and it seems its the closest I can get. To anyone who has downloaded it is Ikaruga easier or harder than this game? I die occasionally but the level 4 boss 2nd shooting pattern I cant figure out how to dodge very well. You only get 3
continues Z is shoot, X is bomb also whatever polarity you are it destroys the opposite color bullets on the screen, C is change polarity and V is continue and pause.

Ill probably check out more of the games in the link when I get a chance.

I hope we see another in the next gen.

I started getting so S rank good at that game (only way to honestly see everything anyway) but some other game or event jarred me from my daily practice. I’m too afraid to go back.

I can get past the first 2 levels no problem (with that PERFECT thing or whatever you call it) but the stuff the later levels throw at you is insane.

It was the first time I’d played it, and I was a bit dissapointed because I thought it was going to be too easy.

But it’s not too bad. There are many other shooters that are way harder.
