You might be thinking of Battle Bakraid actually, which is another sort-of sequel to Garegga. Garegga you can only have 4 options at once, Bakraid you can have 6, Batrider it depends on the character (most just have 2 fixed options, but Garegga characters have the normal 4 movable ones). Bakraid is a pretty fucking insane game itself though.
Yeah youāre right I was thinking of Bakraid. Guess Iāll have to try Garrega.
Iāve been looking at that collection for some time now. I still donāt have it because Iām not sure about the Darius Gaiden port.
Tell me, how is it, compared to the Saturn version? I canāt imagine there would be any big differences. But it is a port, and Iāve been burned by those several times before (Hi there, Gamecube Ikaruga!).
I can only tell you how it is compared to the PSOne version. Thatās the one I own. It runs smoother. The graphics are crisper. And the game just plays faster.
:shake::sad:ā¦
That describes the order that my emotions went in. Speaking of the unspeakable, how was the last game in the series? I FUCKING loved IV to death. That mess was bananas. Thought the Genesis would have exploded from a game like that. The art, the action, the music, HARDCORE.
TFV was good, itās hard but definitely not as hardcore as IV or III. But it improved on the Thunder Sword system in IV (every weapon has a super version), and the scoring system added a multiplier for killing enemies as fast and early as possible. The soundtrack is just as good as the rest of the series, and not just because itās CD-quality.
I play the PS1 version all the time on PSP, but the Saturn version looked a lot better and is full of details the PS1 game lacks.
Well, real or not, thereās still Border Down and Gradius V to take care of your H-shooter needs.
I think its spelled ātechnoā, not ātecnoā. I think its fake.
On the subject of Thunderforce, Iāve actually never played the series. I :lovin: most of the MAME shooters like DoDonPachi and ESPRaDe. Does it have a similar death-filled-screen-oh-shit-donāt-get-hit thing going on?
I think the current spelling is Tecno Soft after the developer was bought by a pachinko company.
The only Thunder Force game I beat was III. IV or Lightening Force raped me soooooo hoooord. V wasnāt too kind to me either.
I just picked this up yesterday for the DS, and it is fantastic. A great, fun score-based shooter, and they managed to reinvigorate the game without bastardizing it. The music and visuals are great, reminds me of Lumines, Rez, E4, and the like.
Easily worth $20, especially the DS version with the added online shizzle. Too bad the PSP version is lacking all those features.
Also, Thunder Force V is my fave shmup to date. Iām ashamed to say it, but I still canāt beat it. I can get to the last boss easily enough, but he gets me every time. The music in that game is god-tier also. The Saturn version is slightly superior as far as visuals go, but the PS version offers additional cut-scenes, a boss time-trial mode, goes a little more in-depth with the story, and is easier to find domestically, since the Saturn version was only released in Japan. Despite all the extras though, I still prefer the Saturn version.
You know why? When it comes down to it, it is all about the game. Thatās why Castlevania SoTN is at its best on PSOne. The added shit to the Saturn version didnāt make the core experience better (and in this case it may have made it worse). But the Dracula X version is the true best but ya know I wasnāt really counting that one.
Iām glad that someone else is enjoying Space Invaders Extreme. Like you cats really need to stop sleeping on this game. I got my first S rank earlier in the week and I moved on to stage 3B and omg that damn stage. So much damn strategy to everything you do in that game. So deep. When I do beat 3B (which I have gotten close to) Iāll probably have a S or A rank for sure.
I donāt feel like looking in my manual or visiting Gamefaqs but could someone tell me how you trigger transforming everything into a UFO? That shit gets you such a high score. Also to trigger the āAll One Colorā move is it having 7 enemies of one color and then 1 of a different color killed on your bar to the left (the two spaces for 4 enemies each so you can see what enemies you have killed so you can set-up combos for weapons, roulettes, etc. ?
JUST TOO MUCH SHIT DAMNIT!
ANy of you rascals beat NANO STRAY 2 for the DS yet?..tuff game
I take that back, Tecnosoft was always the developersā other name, itās spelled that way in the TFIV intro.
I noticed the Battle Garegga talk earlier in this threadā¦ the gameplay is really freaking deep for its own good (itās almost like Virtua Fighter, where youāre not really going to have a good time if you just jump in without knowing the gameplay system beforehand), so you can argue whether the gameās fun or notā¦ but christ, the god-status of the soundtrack canāt be denied.
The sad thing about Thunderforce 5 is that the whole game becomes pretty easy and broken once you learn how to use the Freeway properly. Itās really ridiculously overpowered and pretty much runs the scoring system. That being said, I still like the game and think itās fun to just run through now and then, as are most of the games in the series. But if youāre having trouble getting a 1cc of the game, definitely learn to use the Freeway as it can take out a lot of dangerous stuff (like some bosses) before they can even attack. Of course the final boss is a bitch just because if you die on it or lose too many Craws, youāre fairly fucked as youāll just run out of time.
And yeah, Battle Garegga is pretty much the VF of shooting games. Too bad the PCB got stupidly expensive recently.
Eh, no. I only beat the the Challenges mode which was so addicting to me. I tried my hand at beating the main game on normal but then I got more better DS games. Iām gonna be hung up on SP:E until I A or S rank every stage. Itās like playing Darius but you have to earn the right to pick a different stage.
