SLAMMIN!!! Does your asian wife have an asian sister? I treat her nice, you watch. These pics also remind me of another thing…I need a bigger house dammit.

Those and less gimmick stages. Give me “real” 5-10 minute stages with no weapon or ability limitations instead.

for my shooters on PS3 who haven’t tried everyday shooter and want something new, do it. I admit. the musice messed with me pretty bad at first, but the gameplay is solid and if you wanna go bare bones," mano a mano" shooter, no powerups, but still not ready for rRootage, this may quench your thirst. Give it a shot.

I love Everyday Shooter. So original and fun. I’ll take that over Super Stardust (or the Soldner games) any time. But yeah, as I’m also a PS3 owner I feel your pain. There aren’t many quality ways to get shot, unless you want to pay for JPN PSN cards and grab the PS1 (Do)donpachi port(s).

I’m surprised I didn’t find this thread before today, considering the hard-on I have for shooters. I pretty much buy most of them on XBL/PS3 (but haven’t gotten Deathsmiles 2X yet, sadly…) if anyone ever wants to play.

As for upcoming games (and more hard-ons >.>) Otomedius Excellent looks… Excellent. I just saw the US trailer today. Underboob Pirate Catgirls FTW.

Send it to me and I’ll take a look at it. I don’t do much av work anymore (aside from my own), but I’ll take one for the team to get that av working again.

^I’m surprised that you can find any thread on SRK right now.

Jamestown is finally out!

It’s on Steam for $8.99! Support Final Form Games, guys!

shrugs I used the search function. I typed in “SHMUP” and got nothing, so I tried “Shooter” instead and found this thread.

The search function actually works a hell of a lot better than the last one.

Hell yes! Purchased!

Jamestown thoughts…

Presentation - Very slick looking and everything is clearly laid out. I do wish that if you use a controller the d-pad would snap to buttons instead of floating freely like a mouse. Feels very strange. I also wish that Fire and Alt-Fire would act as Accept and Cancel respectively. Just feels natural to hit the alt-fire to act as a back/cancel button. The story and setting are also really cool. Also choosing and customizing your controls is as easy as pie. Very cool execution on Final Form’s part.

Gameplay - The main gimmick is the Vault button which gives you a temporary bullet eating shield and starts the combo multiplier. Pick up gears (gold) to fill the vault meter and once the meter is filled hit the vault button to turn it on. Keep collecting gears (gold) to keep the combo going. As far as I can tell hitting Vault again will form another shield and the more meter you have left when you do this the bigger the shield’s range. It’s a neat mechanic overall. Nothing ground breaking but it’s easy to grasp. Vault also gives you a damage boost.

There are five different difficulty levels too. Normal is honestly easy mode. If you are a vet of shmups start off with Legendary difficulty. You need to play Difficult or higher to unlock the last three stages.

Levels are quick affairs and there are only six as far as I can tell. As you play you earn money to spend on new ships, an alternate story mode, etc. There are also challenges to check out like surviving for a minute or flying through rings. These are actually a lot of fun.

The ships are all very unique:

I like the Beam ship the most since it’s the most natural to use. Spread shot machine gun and alt fire is a beam weapon like Do Don Pachi.

The Charge ship is pretty cool but it takes some foresight to use. Main gun just fires forward (two guns iirc) and the alt fire is an auto charging ball of energy. It honestly makes me think of a blue cannon ball. This ship is pretty neat to use as timing is everything.

The Omnidirectional (forgot the name already) ship would work better if going in one direction made you fire in the opposite direction. That’s how it works in most shmups that use that style of weapon. If they fix that ship I might use it a lot more. The main gun just fires straight iirc.

The Bomber seems cool at first but it seems incredibly underpowered. The main gun is just a single machine gun that fires forward and the alt-fire explodes all the bullets on screen. If the gun maybe fired faster OR the blast radius were bigger it would be a cool ship to use but right now it just seems to get me killed. Maybe it’s only good if you keep your Vault going.

Graphics/Art Direction - Pixely old school look. The video sums that up pretty well. The story mode is told through some nice looking art though. Game is colorful and exciting to look at.

Sound - The music is great but the sound effects are lacking. What’s there could use more punch. Some screaming after you’ve blown up a ship or something.

Overall - It’s awesome. I might sound negative but really I think it’s a cool game and I can’t wait to play co-op (offline only).

Just beat Jamestown. Loving it so far! I can definitely see me getting lots of play out of this. I’m loving the Charge ship. It rapes bosses.

The music to this game is fantastic. Absolutely amazing. I might buy the soundtrack if it becomes available.

My only gripe is the lack of online co-op. I don’t have any local friends who really enjoy shooters. :frowning:

Well more people need to buy this game to make it worthwhile for them to invest the time and life energy to do online co-op. This game should have come out next week lol. E3 is a terrible week for such a small but deserving title as this to be launched.

I also hope that Final Form Games are looking into porting this game to different platforms. The most obvious being XBLA, PSN (PS3/Vita). Actually on that note I need to play this on my tv!

No worries. sooner or later, EVERYBODY GETS SHOT!!! Welcome to the Empire of AMMO.

Jamestown rocks. Hope this means we more folk put up shooting games on Steam.

Seconded. If it had any, I’d play you in a heartbeat.

Yeah, my only disappointment with Jamestown is the lack of online co-op. But as it is, the game is incredible, especially for a first effort from the developer.

ah. I have only just now seen this. I’ll send it to you shortly. for some reason it works fine if I open it in a webpage, but not if I use the picture viewer on the computer. In fact, none of my gifs work on the computer. If it makes a difference, I’m using windows vista.

I was just about to come here and post about it. Good show. It’s actually really fun, and I’ve fallen out of love with the Japanese-style bullet hell shoot em up!

Still gay for me huh specs?

Yeah I’ve been all over the place with my gaming lately. I’m playing MK, TF War for Cybertron, Eschatos, Strania Vower Side, and Jamestown. Luckily I got to spend an hour with Jamestown last night. I finally got used to using the Gunner ship. While I initially compared it to other shmups with directional weapons this one just takes a little longer to master. It’s a ‘set it and forget it’ directional weapon unlike most shmups where you have to be actively involved with the shooting. Luckily with Jamestown it’s probably the weakest weapon in the game so the balance is there.

And the Challenge mode is actually a stupid smart way to make you better at the game. I kept struggling with the very first challenge until I used the Gunner ship last night and then made quite the comeback. In doing so I got a little better at managing enemies coming at me from all sides.

Yes. I need more apples. And by apples I mean genitalia. Also apples.

I’ve also been playing a random mishmash of games, from Jamestown to Castlevania 1 on NES, which I hadn’t played until a few weeks ago.

Jamestown is pretty baller. Normal was kicking my ass until I started a) wisely using the reflect and b) really paying attention to the kill box of my ship. Afterwords I was able to pump the difficulty up a bit. I was a little miffed that level 4 wouldn’t unlock until I beat 1-3 on the second difficulty or higher.

My speakers died, and Jamestown is best enjoyed with music, so I have to put it off for a bit.

Love the whole aesthetic to the game.
