The Shinobi Secrets: Ibuki Video Thread

Video from our tournament last weekend.

VS T.Hawk

Those two matches are the same match DevilJin. I inspected pretty closely. Something must have gone crazy during editing of the video. You can see because the FA -> Ultra happens as exactly the same time exactly the same way. But yeah, its the same match, just looped.

Anyways, I notice you never do the [Insert choice TC starter], cr.HK, s.HK SJC hk.dash ClxJames. Any particular reason? It seems like lots of times you hit your TC, jump cancel, hit with a jump in and TC again. Then you go for another jump cancel into jump in and it gets blocked the second time around. It seems that if you threw in the SJC dash for the second time, your opponent would most likely be eating at least a raida, if not a third TC. It’s not too hard to gain consistency at (of course, doing it in training and doing it in a match is two different things, i know).

Just something to think about.

that bison match up was actually a lot closer than the results suggested, you just didnt punish his mistakes IMO. Pretty sure you can use J.FK to beat DR and OS a backdash so you can escape the hand. You could have done way more on knockdown too. You were too cautious IMO - which is exactly how a dictator would want you to play I would think. Considering Bison has like, 3 options on wake up (3?) . Two are easily punishable on reaction if you jump in and leave a small gap (teleport and EX Stomp) and PC is punishable on block,. If you jump in and just leave a small gap between the jump and your next attack, youll have time to block the PC, react to his EX Stomp or teleport or continue into a blockstring. i doubt hed notice the little gap that much - maybe after a few rounds - and, IMO, the odds in that mind game would be in your favour.

Well, I can tell you why “I” wouldn’t do that, at least not too often: it’s a gimmick, and unless you’re playing against some lower level…well, “players”, it’s not going to work more than once, or twice at best in a match (this is especially dangerous if they have a good reversal). It’s simply better the majority of the time to go for the knockdown, get that guaranteed stun/dmg in, and work from there.

It’s good to throw out as a gimmick every now and then to mix them up and keep them guessing, but I wouldn’t bother with the gimmicky stuff until after I’ve established the tempo in the round and have conditioned my opponents somewhat.

wait, in the beginning there @ 9seconds, is that a sjc command dash or can you cancel that from the st. hk? im at work still so i cant try this at home.

Believe me, I know I get way too predictable, which isnt what you do with a character like Ibuki

Got any vids Siefer? Maybe you can show us some of the stuff you’re talking about.

SJC command dash.

mm. I think you are looking down your nose a little too much at the reset. I know its a gimmick, any reset is, doesn’t make it less valuable as a technique to help control the pace of the match in your favor though. Lots of characters base their gameplay around mind games and gimmicks. I think the SJC hk.dash is a really good tool that ibuki players can use. It puts you on their other side really fast and gets you back into neutral frames before the person is done recovering from reset, so you can start a meaty attack to beat any jab or throw they are gonna put out. I think the SJC dash has more to it than just calling it a gimmick.

Great find…epic pressure!

Heh when summer comes I am so going to sit down on work on my Ibuki. I am really liking the tools I see out of her.

A few matches from the other night with lots of vortex progress. One thing I need to work on is the use of more fundamental cr.lp / s.lp / s.mk starters instead of target combos. I spent so much lab time on okizeme, launchers and dash shenanigans that I need more lab time for basics. I also want to make better use of DF+MK, especially on projecties.

Advice welcome! :karate:
Ibuki vs. Balrog:
Ibuki vs. Makoto:

Balrog Match : good offense but woulda like to see more variation invortex. The rogs inability to block made that needless though.
Your defense was pretty bad TBH. Mostly in round 2. You dashed straight back into the corner for some reason and totally screwed yourself that way when you should just be looking to either stuff his dash punch with a solid poke or neckbreaker it or Raida. Way too much jumping going on too IMO. Overall, Id advise you to just stand your ground and wait for one solid poke that you can either SJC or CD into vortex. You ran too much.

Makoto : Same. like you said, fundamentals and just look to poke to safely get into vortex.

pretty good ibuki you got there dude!

uploading match videos now
please follow this lilnk you’ll find omore videos as uploadings are in queue
Most of them from local top players here in east coast
Dr.Chaos, Evil Rahsaan, Rico suave, Moosepanda, Ryder etc…

VS Ryu…
the ryu didnt seem that great so its hard to say for certain but at times your defence wasnt the best. You hit EX Kaze on reversal which to me seemed very risky - he had bar and you had the lead - could have lost it there. Other than that really good, love the way you kept switching the spacing and keeping him guessing. Nice

VS Rico Suave Abel : Obviously a tough match. You did well in round 1 but half way through I think you started to panic a bit and rushed. That cause you to mistime a throw in the corner, after which you tried to jump out or mashed or something? Anyway, in a match that tough youre probs gonna need to block more, be patient whilst waiting for the TT and backdash, I dont think jumping is the right answer. in round 2 you made 1 fatal mistake, same thing again, EX Kaze… killed you. Thats way too risky an option IMO and it cost you that round.

Overall : really good ibuki. The only thing I see you doing wrong repeatedly is when youre rushed you take a big risk and die because of it. I love your use of space and the amount of mix-ups you use. Youre really good at making your opponent mess up and then punishing it, but you then do the same thing when they rush you. Also, I didnt see any real use of footsies. Ibuki isnt that bad in that department IMO . instead of jumping Id sometimes calm it down a bit. A simple decent poke like C.MP can lead you right into your excellent vortex without the risks. Then get your lead and sit on it. Very impressed I gotta say.

Yeah definitely liked what I saw so far from those newer videos Philly. Keep playing like that and your Ibuki will be ready for tournaments real soon. Once I get the game again I’ll have more time to practice matchup specific shit. I was overly scared against the Gief player at the tournament yesterday because I didn’t want to use anti airs like b+MP only for it to whiff and then just get put in a blender the rest of the match like the Gief matchup usually is.

Thanks guys
those advices are really helpfull
and thats some top tier analysis there lol
yeah im really bad at blocking especially against abel

** Try to not compliment the players but analyze the setups/strats which Dudley is using and formulating a solid counter strategy against it overall.**
