The Shinobi Secrets: Ibuki Video Thread

Izuna. This was the best Ibuki I’ve personally ever fought. After my first round of mashing and realizing my Hakan stood no chance, I just wanted to see more of what this Ibuki player had to offer, so I could dissect it in the Replay Channel. Look at my inputs in the second round. I’m not really trying. Really? You think I’m THAT scrubby that I’m gonna do three jump-ins for no reason? I wanted to see what this Ibuki could do. I wasn’t disappointed.

^^ Two big mistakes! cr.MK instead of st.MK to punish the DP, and kara~Raida didn’t come out!!

How the hell do you have the endurance to grind that many points? I already got hella bored before I even reached 3000PP/5000BP.

Most people on here have 3000+ and they’re not very good so, you only need about a 50 win streak to reach 3000. My highest is 97 lol. I’m trying to hunt those scrub Blanka players so I can sort out my reactions. Although half of Europe removes me from Ranked Matches now.

sooo i have no clue how to fight the rufus match up… any advice??

also advice vs the yang match up would be appreciated

I’m gonna go outta the way and guess that Kara-Raida didn’t come out because you never inputted it.

Hope this doesn’t come off rude, apologies if it does.

You move around for reason way too much. You need to learn to hold your ground. In the Rufus match up, you probably spend more time in the air then you do on the ground. I don’t know if it’s just you being afraid of dive kick pressure or what, but it’s overall really sloppy play. I’m not even gonna get into the a million jabs into knee->tsumuji. You have to work on your fundamentals first.

Honestly, it’s not so much about you not knowing the Yang match up as it is him being a better player than you.

I don’t understand how you made it to finals. I mean I do, day 1 vortex will still rape people, but this is what happens when you actually fight people that know how to deal with that and you don’t know any other way to play Ibuki.

naa i don’t take it as rude 0.0 i pretty much expected something like that. lol thx for the advice

Well yeah… That’s usually why moves don’t come out.

Cause you never went for it in the first place?

Of course I did. Is this a jab at my decision making or something? I don’t get what you’re trying to do.

You know your inputs are on right? You’re talking about the kara raida you noticed you should have done after the tsumuji loop in the final round, correct?

Okay, I’m done. I’ll ignore you from now on.

Only did a quick skim.

vs Rufus

You are hella avoidant of midrange for whatever reason, and you give up space like no tomorrow. In fact, you basically cornered yourself within the first 10 seconds of each round. You’re not fighting Chun or Fei. Rufus’s normals are total ass. When you find yourself in st.LP range, STAY THERE and abuse the hell out of it. Rufus has no option to deal with far.st.LP pressure.

You should stop doing gimmicky dash up throw and dash up cr.LP xx combo. Again, Ibuki has worthy normals in this matchup. You really need to consider using them.

Please antiair more. This Rufus was obvious in his dive kick attempts to get in. I saw close to zero b+MP or nj.MK or raida or etc.

Don’t bother doing EX kazegiri on wakeup. Good Rufus’s will almost always aim their dive kick to make dp’s whiff. It should be their specialty by now, considering they had to master it to pressure shotos on wakeup. Save the psychic EX kazegiri for when you expect divekick/throw/st.LK frametrap/mixup, where you don’t have to worry about EX kazegiri whiffing or getting stuffed.

I noticed you fell for Rufus’s far.st.HK , cr.LP frame trap. His far.st.HK is actually +2 on block, so yeah. Try to recognize his blockstrings and your options afterward. It kind of seemed like you were flustered in this matchup. Maybe you just need to play more Rufus’s, or try playing him yourself.

Don’t ever crouch tech against Rufus. Either stand tech (if you expect a frametrap, like with st.MP/st.HP, though this Rufus didn’t really frametrap that much), raida, backdash, or continue blocking and downloading your opponent. The latter is important. It looked more like you just kept blocking because you were out of meter for EX kazegiri.

I can’t stress this enough. You need to be constantly downloading and reading your opponent. Did you notice that every time he did cr.LK, he went for a tick throw? Did you notice he almost always did a mix of st.LK and dive kick? Neither of these hit low, meaning if you simply hold back instead of down back, you’ll slowly walk yourself out of range. And did you notice the gap size between his st.LK’s and dive kicks? You probably could have backdashed in between, and gotten away because there would be no way for his Rufus to option select this reliably.

In another example, at 2:03 Rufus goes for crossup dive kick into st.LK x2. You should have realized that at this spacing, Rufus cannot combo into anything, so he obviously has to take a guess with another dive kick to get in again (which he does) or read a backdash with cr.HP or HP GT. Neutral jump is an excellent option here, and at the very least, backdash is low risk/high reward for Ibuki. Best case is you get out of pressure. Worst case is he knocks you down with the last hit of HP GT (damage isn’t even worth noting) and you continue getting pressured. It’s this kind of risk/reward analysis that you need to be constantly thinking about as the match goes on, once you figure out what options both characters have in each situation.

You need to stop doing tsumuji knockdown and instead go for neckbreaker knockdowns, at the very least. Rufus is a low stun character, so going for things like neckbreaker knockdown, tsumuji loops, and cl.st.HK mixups can pay off extremely well, assuming your execution is up to par. In fact, after a knockdown, you can basically stun Rufus in two mixups. Two mixups is all you need to win the round once you get Rufus down on his back.

When safe jumping, use j.HP, not j.HK.

When doing tsumuji block strings, you really need to do more than go for the 3hit into backdash/forwarddash throw. If I can notice this, I’m sure top players will. Instead, consider this opportunity as an extension of Ibuki’s pressure game. After blocking 2 kicks, Ibuki should be relatively close to her opponent, to continue pressure with (other things besides dash up throw, such as) cr.MP/st.MK xx tsumuji, walk up st.LP (probably your best option here for this matchup), jump kunai, etc. It all depends on what you expect from your oppponent.

If you noticed, this Rufus rarely pushes any buttons after blocking your tsumuji kicks. You can either take this opportunity to mass chip damage, via st.MK xx hk.tsumuji over and over again. Or you can use it to continue your blockstring pressure and see another way in, such as walk up st.LP. And if he does push any buttons, it’s almost always a jump, because he wants to dive kick like a madman apparently, which st.LP should take care of.

I think you need more practice, especially against Rufuses.

0.0 thanks mingo  i really appreciate it!
